actually it was a partial face transplant...

the lady was mauled by a dog and she actually had the skin of another(dead) person who had similiar skin tone put on to her face.

for those of you with severe scarring, (i have scars too but there not severe enough for a skin transplant) would you do this procedure? i mean its pretty much guaranteed to wipe out your scars....imagine having the face of someone who had flawless skin...i mean theyll be a dead person but hey, if i had severe scarring i wouldnt care.

uh... acne scarring is SO different from a woman who was disfigured from a dog bite. the woman most likely actually had huge chunks of her face missing, like her nose. i think this is a huge medical breakthrough and a gigantic benefit for people like jacqueline saburito. these are the types of people who really deserve a face transplant:

^i saw her on Oprah. something as severe as that is different from acne scarred face. im teary eyed just looking at that picture right now. i cant imagine living when i look like that. it makes me sick that a bad judgement of a person can also affect an innocent person. someone like her truly deserves such a surgical procedure and i hope a good doctor will help her for free. God bless her.

I saw Jacqueline on a tv program last year. She was so young and beautiful before the drunk driver hit her car. I wonder what happened to the drunk driver.

I was hit by a drunk driver years ago, and I actually felt sorry for the drunk because he went to jail, and I'm sure he lost his insurance/license. I don't know what I would have done if I was disfigured though.

We should all be pretty thankful because our situations could be a lot worse.

Thank god some people agree with me that this transplant thing is for real disfigured people as in the picture. ( i hate to put someone in that corner but dunno how else to say it..)

I said in an earlier thread that you can't compare someone who is missing face features, lips, nose, big parts of the skin biten of to the bone etc with even very severe acne scars. You must stay realistic, some people really lost it. I know how much pain it is to have scarred skin all over and holes en dents, but we still have our face features. The things that shine through the scars, people like this girl have lost that completely.

I know some have bad scarring but it gets on my nerves to compare yourself with like a real burn victim and hoping for some face transplant, you really should get prozac asap.

I think it's really unethical what some people are trying to do. But I have the right on that opinion.

sorry.

poor, poor girl. that whole situation makes me want to cry! she's so brave. i don't think i'd be able to continue living if i were in her shoes. anyway, yeah, anyone who has acne scars and sees face transplants (which are harvested from braindead patients, by the way and they're probably not so easy to obtain so there's disfigured and burn victims waiting for them) as a viable option to cure your scarring... sorry, but that's sort of fucked up and extremely vain.

So, you think she should consider to kill herself because she looks like that?

It's sad but I wouldn't want to die, I would exactly do the same as what im doing now well yea maybe less outside but I would just try to save up cash for later on. I bet in about 20 ~ 30 years we will be way more advanced ( of course if humans don't nuke each other, which will be 50/50 if you see what kind of idiots we have on this planet with great power) anyway, maybe even 40 years, she'll only be in her early 60's. I bet by then they could give her a face of a 35 year old. Seems all far fetched but people have to have faith in yes.. each other... and the future of course ..

no, OF COURSE i don't think that should consider killing herself! i think it's amazing and admirable that she has the will to live and is so incredibly positive about it too. i'm saying that personally, i am not as strong as she is.

I think Jacqeline is such an inspirational person. I was reading about her, and she says that she wants to fall in love, get married, and hopes to someday have a face transplant. Whenever I feel down about my acne, I think about her and the fact that she carries on and still has hope for the future after all she's been through. She's an amazing girl.

The drunk who did that to her only got 5 years in prison and she has to live with this the rest of her life. I think his follow up sentence should be to serve as her indentured servant for life. I don't think it's going to be much longer before she is up for this procedure.
