do the MJ levels compare between the two fraxels? someone said their doctor told them its on a different scale . . . . can someone ask what the minimum and maximum levels are for the new one?

I've got to call and set Fraxel #4 on Friday, and I'll try to remember to ask then.

Third fraxel done yesterday.

I'm red red red and more swollen than ever this time. No flaking yet, I expect to see that start at some point today.

Scattered pinpoint bleeds again this time.

Settings were 18mjs and then additional passes - at level 40.

I almost had to stop. This one was definitely the most intense one yet.

I asked if we had to use the blue dye, and was told yes.

I'll call Friday to schedule number four.

THREE DOWN, TWO TO GO!

It sounds like my experience, same settings. I know what you mean about almost having to stop. This was pretty intense especially for my first one but I have an appoitment set already for my second one a month from now.

I am so swollen today that I called the nurse because I was a little freaked out. One eye was starting to close. the doctor used the laser very close to my eyes and on the top of my uppler eyelid. I don't look like myself. It's a bit strange to look in the mirror.

Like you, I too have pinpoint blood spots but I have quiet a few of them and some white heads popping up from my skin being so swollen.

I tried to sleep elevated but wasn't very sucessful so the nurse said this is why I am so swollen. She said it is normal but I seem extremely swollen to me. My skin is gritty but not flaking yet. My face is still hot and this is annoying. No way would I be able to go back to work the next day. I'm even wondering if I will be able to go to work next week but I'm probably over reacting because I am tired from not sleeping well.

I'm the same: gritty but not flaking yet.

With the first two, I started flaking by noon on the day after treatment. This time, it is taking longer. I don't know if that's good or bad.

I'm definitely in hibernation mode until this swelling goes down.

I felt the same way as you the first couple of times I went through this. I was really freaking out, because I never expected that. Then, by the fourth or fifth day, my eyes would get these big puff bags underneath. They looked like it would pop if you stuck it with a pin. If this happens, just put an ice cold cloth on it for about a half hour, and it will go down. I didn't realize you could get Fraxel on top of your eyelid. I have a couple of nasty scars above my right eye I didn't think you could do anything about.

I couldn't sleep elevated either, so I said the heck with it. Don't be surprised if it takes about a week for the noticable swelling to go away. That's how long it took me. Hang in there, this will be worth it!

Ahhhhhhhh I hope it doesn't take a week to go away. I look strange!!!!

Thanks so much guys for sharing your experiences. I have calmed down so much after reading Shyone and #1cubs fan's posts!!! I thought my doc went way to strong and I was going to be like this forever! Talk about PANIC when I woke up

Shyone, at first I thought you might be going to the same doctor as me because it's the exact same process. I even bought that same nutragel face mask that I LOVE so much.

I am using this get icepack from the freezer along with the gel pack and I wrap a soft pillowcase around it and put it on my face but it doesn't seem to help that much but I know it's just my first day.

Thanks again!! Relief!! 😀

Good luck to you too as well. Continued good healing!

Well I don't have to worry about Fraxel at this time. The only Dr. here who has it turned me down saying I will not see improvement to warrent costs etc. and my scars were not worth bothering with.

I have to agree, they are few and shallow, and wan't to be like concealer free.

Thank you all for sharing as this other Dr. I saw is getting a new Fraxel soon, and would like to spot treat me.

So I will share my experience, when I have it done, maybe after Christmas.

(I think the other guy had the old one), and at least he was honest, but the other Dr. I saw, said the new one was so much better. (He runs a few clinics in different areas, but wishes his own Fraxel for his practice here).

Now I am not sure if it is the SP1500? Or a newer version of the new one.

Will post what I find out for those interested as I go on my journey.........to being scar free one day the sooner the better. :)

Or very unnoticable, much less I hope.

B.

Oh, isn't that mask just the BEST! Love love love it!

I'm still red and swollen this morning, gritty in places and seeing just a little tiny bit of flaking getting started.

The process hurts and healing takes a while, I think it's because they're going deep with that laser.

I keep telling myself that we'll get good results because of it.

Being patient is the hardest part for me. I know for sure that after my second treatment, a quarter sized depressed spot on my left cheek has started to raise up some, AND my crows feet have softened.

It is going to take TIME to see the final results, so patience is the name of the game.

eta: I use Dr. Jih of Dermsurgery Associates in Houston.

Well I've had my first fraxel today at 2.00pm and it's now 3.30pm and I'm only in mild pain.

However, the treatment itself is very, very painful......It felt like a blow torch to be honest but I didn't tell my derm because I wanted him to keep the intensity high to get the best results.

I'll report back tomorrow with more results!

i want to tell you what I'm noticing this time, and also after my last Fraxel session, and see if any of you have experienced the same thing. There are about 3 small places on my face that I can actually see new collagen there. It looks like flesh colored patches where it is actually filling in! It is so cool to see this because this is definetely not swelling, and it's really helping my scars!! Let me know if you are seeing this too. I just with it would happen in a lot more places. :D

I'll keep a watch for something similar. I have not noticed it yet.

I did notice that a depressed patch had raised up some. It still was not even with the surrounding skin, but it was definitely lifted some. It was lifting from underneath, no surface change (and the surface has multiple small scars on it, which is probably why that whole patch sank in - massive damage to the tissue underneath from repeated cysts in that area).

I have three saucer type scars, two of those appear to have filled in/flattened out some, but I did not note actual patches of rebuilt tissue. Those two looked the same on the surface just not as deep in the center of the saucer.

Did you use Dawn dishwashing liquid? I use that in the doc's office right after treatment, but I also have some blue dots for a few days after.

OH MY! We are going to the same place!!!! I am seeing Dr. Friedman!! I thought everything sounded to familiar! How funny!! And we were there on the same day. Wow. I have another friend who is doing the Fraxel with Dr. Friedman too but her skin isn't bad at all, just a bit of discoloration, nothing as bad as my scared face.

My face is still VERY swollen today and my the skin around my eyes is about to burst, not literally but it looks so swollen! I have a few places that are starting to flake, like my chin but wish some of the swelling around my eyes would go down so I look more like myself. Now it's very strange to look in the mirror!

Hi. I live in Illinois and I talked with a doctor about fraxel. He's had his machine for 8 months. I was just wondering if this would be the new one you guys are talking about? He set me up with a 4 treatment package for $3,500. He said he would do 20 passes each time. For those of you who have had it done, my main concern is how much do you peel afterwards? Is it as bad as TCA, or just flakey like you've used too much BP?

Had a message from the doc's office this afternoon with answers to my questions. Confirmed the levels they used on my last treatment: First run, full face, 18mjs, 10 passes. Then she did the additional work, (cheeks chin) 40mjs, 8 passes.

Max energy level is 40mjs at treatment level 10. I was told this was very close to the additional stuff they did on me. (I am not sure if this is the max the machine is capable of or if this is the max the doc is willing to go, I'll clarify that at my next appt.)

Update on what's going on with my face tonight: I've been flaking and peeling all day. Feeling a bit itchy, too. I'm still bright red, still swollen though it has gone down a tiny bit. Where I've peeled, the skin underneath feels slick.

I'm doing my treatments 3 weeks apart.

It's not really peeling, it's just bad flaking that lasts about 2-4 days. I've never done TCA, so I can't compare that.

Hey guys I had my first fraxel about a month ago now! As I posted awhile ago I was freaking out because my skin was all bumpy and looked terrible afterwards. But now its smooth and looks better.

Unfortunately the weirdest thing popped up a few days ago. I have this ugly dark spot on my cheek. I have been wearing sunscreen and honestly havent been in the sun much, except walking through parking lots to the store. Anyway I went to the doctor and they gave me bleaching cream, but it seems to be making the spot look even worse! I am honestly not sure if this spot came from sun or if it was from the procedure and is just now showing up! Has anyone had this happen and if so, do more fraxel treatments help it go away?? I am kind of sad cuz make-up doesnt cover it well. Im scheduled for my next fraxel 11/2 but now Im scarred it might make it worse???

I would see a dermatologist to find out what it is for sure. Fraxel helps with discoloration so I dont' see that it could have caused it but it's better to ask a derm.

Good luck.

It really depends on how high a level they are treating you with. I started off at low levels and was fine going every two weeks. At higher levels I waited a month because it took longer for my face to recover. I asked my doc about spacing treatments and if longer timing was better and he said from their experiences, it doesn't really matter. Your skin will continue to improve 6 months after treatment anyway. From what people have posted here, I think that 4-5 weeks between treatments is fairly common.

Shyone, 40 mjs was the max on the machine they used on me. My most aggressive treatment was 8 passes at 25 and 2 passes at 30 over areas with scarring. Your treatment was super aggressive compared to mine. I reread the press release about the pros of the new fraxel, but frankly, I sometimes wonder whether I could have gotten a much better result if I had been treated at 40 mjs with the intial fraxel. Wow, that would really hurt.

Does anyone have any literature on the efficacy of the new fraxel, beyond the August press release?
