.....all of the red marks and ice picks are still there but they are faded......the red marks are very much faded (but they are still there) and the ice picks are smaller (but still there)......
im definitely better off for having done fraxel, but im not perfect....and i still hate my skin.....like i said before, im going to wait another 3 months to see the rest of the healing from the fraxels and then if im still not happy (and i know i wont be) i will do the fraxel RE:PAIR.....and let me see what thats going to do....

So after 11 fraxels all you got was "faded"? Did any scars disappear?
was thinking about having the fraxel laser done, but wanted to know if anyone who has done it before thinks it is worth the money?
I've had 4 Fraxel's and they hurt like hell, cost a lot of money, and show hardly any improvement. It actually caused a condition called milia that I've never had in my entire life and they won't go away. I totally regret wasting my money

Go see a doctor regarding milia, it's as easy as that. And what kind of scars did you have?

You need to give more information than that...What were you settings? How severe are your scars?
Fraxel is known to cause breakouts after treatments. I broke out until about 6 months after my last treatment.
i dont have any before pics.....and im really psychologically warped and weird about posting pics of my bare face without any make up.....i know that by doing so i would be helping others......but just knowing that their is a pic out there like that of me would probably cause me to have some sort of a major panic attack.....but ill think about it, and possibly.....
ive spent my whole life going to MAJOR lengths to hide it.....i dont know..
As far as percentage goes its hard to tell and here is the reason why:
because ALL the red marks and ice picks are still there, but they are faded....but i can still see them......the ice picks got very small, (even thought they are still there) and the red marks are all very faded (but i can still see them).....everything is maybe 50% improvement......
but it hasnt completely erased anything......
As far as fraxel Re:pair goes, im going to try it.....ill try ANYTHING that will help my skin.....i dont know if it will improve me, but if there is the slightest chance that it could im willing to try....i will probably do it in summer when i have some vacation time......there are pics of before and after results of the Re:pair on my doctor's website right now....the site is:
lwww.laserskinsurgery.com
u can look and see if u think its a good idea......im not sure anymore about any of these fucking treatments...im kind of depressed tonight about everything....

you could just do what i did and block your eyes out of the photo's so no one knows its you....
Dealing with scars is a thing i do EVERY moment i am awake in this life.....i have never been able to fully live, like everyone else, and i never get to fully enjoy anything.....ever......i am always aware of them, and i feel robbed of this life..........i feel like i am less than other people, not worth as much as they are.....
OMG...I feel the same way. My face is ALWAYS on my mind. Not only do I have scarring on my cheeks but my skin is VERY oily so it makes them appear 100x worse. Make up doesnt work and dealing with this problem becomes very expensive and insurance does nothing for it although this is probably one of the most emotionally crippling disorders a person can have. I have been dealing with acne for the past 10 years and now I am dealing with scars..will it ever end?

I had ipl and lasers done after 3rd treatment my face was completely cover in milia...I am not exagerating either! Actually called and had to go back to doctor and he never saw anything like it before! Now its almost a year since my last treatment and I dont have acne anymore but I have scars on my cheeks. My face is still very very oily and if I could afford to have more treatments I would but those 5 cost me 3500.00. I am thinking of restylane injections for scars.

Fraxel re:pair Laser System Long-Term Clinical Data to be Presented at American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery Annual Conference
Reliant Technologies Introduces Two New Surgical Handpieces to Expand Capabilities of Fraxel re:pair Laser
KISSIMMEE, Fla. a April 1, 2008 -Reliant Technologies, Inc., the pioneer of fractional resurfacing and market leader of aesthetic laser skin treatments, will present long-term clinical data supporting the safety and efficacy of itsFraxel re:pair laser system during a roundtable of leading experts and through multiple podium presentations. Physician investigators will discuss their clinical experience and long-term data from more than 500 Fraxel re:pair treatments performed over the past three years of clinical study. The presentations will take place during the 28th American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) Annual Conference in Kissimmee, Fla. Reliant Technologies also announces pending U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance of two new surgical handpieces for the Fraxel re:pair laser system. The new incisional and bulk ablative handpieces will expand the capabilities of the Fraxel re:pair laser, a breakthrough device that has been clinically proven to improve wrinkles, rhytides, furrows, fine lines, textural irregularities, pigmented lesions and vascular dyschromia.
aoeWith more than 500 procedures performed to date, theFraxel re:pair laser is a breakthrough device for significant tissue tightening, wrinkle reduction and textural improvement, both on and off the face, with no delayed onset of hypopigmentation in subjects evaluated at nearly three years post-treatment,a said Roy Geronemus, M.D., director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York, New York, N.Y.
Reliantas clinical roundtable will take place at the Gaylord Palms Resort on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. Expert panelists include Christopher Zachary, FRCP, chair of the Department of Dermatology, University of California at Irvine; Roy Geronemus, M.D., director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York, New York, NY; Richard Fitzpatrick, M.D., former president of the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery, La Jolla, CA; Zakia Rahman, M.D., clinical instructor of dermatology at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA, and medical director of the FraxelA Laser Clinic; and Jill Waibel, MD, of the Palm Beach Esthetic Dermatology and Laser Center, who will perform a live Fraxel re:pair treatment at the conclusion of the roundtable.
Continuing to expand the capabilities of the Fraxel family of products, Reliant has developed new incisional and bulk ablative handpieces for the Fraxel re:pair system to provide physicians with a complete skin resurfacing and surgical treatment option. The surgical capabilities of the incisional handpiece will allow physicians to use the Fraxel re:pair system to perform laser blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid lifts. The bulk ablative handpiece will enable physicians to safely remove or excise soft tissue for the treatment of a variety of dermatological conditions. Both handpieces are now pending FDA clearance. By adding the surgical handpieces to the Fraxel re:pair system, physicians will be able to offer patients a complete cosmetic solution, addressing multiple skin conditions conveniently and safely.
aoeWith the new surgical handpieces, we will have the flexibility to safely treat multiple skin indications during just one Fraxel re:pair procedure,a said Howard Conn, M.D., ocular & general plastic surgeon and fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. aoeAdding surgical capabilities to the system will provide physicians with a one-stop treatment option for superior tightening of the skin, lifting of the upper eyelids and improvement of lines on the lower eyelids.a

So guys....i had 2 fraxels two years ago, but went on accutane b/c I started breaking out with cystic acne (not caused by fraxel, have always had it. i've been dealing with acne since I was 12-now 25 and have brief periods of clarity...I just decided to do accutane to get rid of acne..it's a whole lot better now. i haven't had any cystic pimples, just tiny ones that go away pretty quick..pretty happy with it).
And now I am ready to return to dealing with these goddamn scars. I've read the past few pages and can empathize with people who feel like scars have taken over their lives. I feel the same way. Anyway, I have an appointment with Dr Rohksar friday morning. I think he just got the Fraxel 3 machine so hopefully I will get to do that one since I have pretty serious acne scars. Will definitely keep you guys updated. I really hope I will look decent in 3 days b/c I have to work--i'm asian too so hopefully no pigmentation problems. Anyone experienced fraxel 3 yet?
something that irks me about fraxel re:pair. its vaporizing thousands of tiny columns of skin. while this improves scars, I think its bad over normal areas of skin where you will be damaging sweat/oil glands and possibly losing hair follicles.
i think thats why they only want to do one or two treatments max on most people. more could cause problems.
I just had my fourth Fraxel. (I'm using Fraxel Re:Store) The pain on this one was more intense than the others, apparently it can be more painful with each subsequent session as the skin is regenerating and repairing. I have been doing it without the pain pills because I drive myself home, but I will probably hire a nurse to drive me home after my next one, (they won't let you take a cab).
Previously I had said I would post pics after my fourth Fraxel, but since I'm opting to continue I'll wait until after my final one, and that will probably be determined on my finances. I'm going to keep getting them until my credit and money runs out.
I am seeing results. The skin is smoother and younger looking, and the smaller scars are disappearing. The larger scars are not. I actually got a few extra passes on my cheeks in this latest session where the larger scars are.

Effu,
Your long term acne reaction is very similar to what I experienced after multiple IPL treatments on my face. I had a dozen IPL's over the course of a year and half. During and after the last few treatments I developed papular-pustular acne on my face.
I was treated with antibiotics for several months which kept it under control. However I ended up going on Accutane for a short course. This stopped the facial acne and oil altogether (but caused other side effects like body eczema and dry skin).
I've seen several different derms and gp's. They all seem to think the IPL induced my facial sebaceous glands into overdrive. This explains why the acne was only on the treated facial areaa. Also explains why I had such a severe reaction to Accutane on the rest of my body (were the oil glands were still operating normally).
Another thing which may have caused the acne was drinking lots of cow milk. The IGF hormones in milk play a role in my acne. I was still getting small spots after accutane. I've experimented several times with restricking cow milk and dairy. Cutting it out always makes all of my acne go away.
This last time I cut out dairy for six months and got ZERO acne. I decided to experiment yesterday with two cups of cow milk and a bowl of cereal with cow milk. Of course I had a large pus filled pimple today.
I'm not sure milk was the culprit to begin with though. I had always drank a lot of cow milk and never had a real acne problem until IPL. But after Accutane calmed the oil glands back down, it was obvious that the remaining acne was milk induced.
It all started with the 12 IPL and laser treatments. Around 6-8 treatments is when I started to notice acne problems. I never had much of an acne problem before that. So I think getting so many treatments provokes the skin into a long term reaction.
The oil glands try to compensate for the dryness caused by the laser. One or two treatments don't have much affect on this. But get 8,9,10, etc. and you can start to have a problem. The pilosebaceous unit is also the source of stem cells when the skin is injured by the laser. So repeated laser trauma may also be forcing the follicles into overdrive while the skin tries to heal itself.
I will be very curious to see how your laser-induced acne progresses. Or if it goes away on its own, in more time. For me, it lasted about 4 months before I had enough and went on tane. Maybe I should have just waited longer.
Just had my first Fraxel 2 laser today. This is my third fraxel and those were two years ago so I don't really count those. Level 70 and 8 ungodly passes. I remember when 20 was considered high. Anyway, the pain was alright and by alright I mean the first 2 passes were tolerable, then by the 5th pass, you're like seriously? not done yet? I mean...it stung! The pain was totally fine after 2 hours though. Slightly reddish/brownish. Weird texture right now. I'm staying in this weekend hoping I'll look normal-ish Monday. Depending on how I heal b/c I can't take more than weekends off right now, I'm planning on 4-5 treatments.
