Ok , I just had my 5th and last fraxel treatment yesterday.
It was with the new tip. The nurse that is performing them asked me to ask you guys a question regarding the new tip. In my experience and her other clients who have had both, the old and new tip, think that the new tip (the one without the blue) is more painful. What have you guys experience? If you've had the old and new tip, is the pain more? And what does the doctors office give you for the pain?

I haven't had the new tip yet (they keep telling me they'll get it next month), but all I get is topical lidocaine for an hour.
I am still waiting on the Dr. to get the Fraxel 2. For those who have had both, how does the down time compare with the Fraxel 2? I was thinking of taking 3-4 days off work plus the weekend.
Also, does anyone think that there is a noticable difference between the two treatments? I have been disappointed with the Fraxel 1 results, so far and don't want to get my hopes up. After spending all of this money, I would like to see somewhat of a difference.

i've been getting my treatments on wednesdays and feel totally comfortable seeing people on the following monday -- so five days is about what my downtime has been for the two treatments i've had of fraxel2.

So how would you rate results on the acne scarring/depressions? I see that you have gone quite far with this at quite high settings.
All I care about is the results on the acne pitting/depressions, or saucer type 'rolling' scars. I am hoping this to level those, but if it won't i'll stop. I'm supposed to go in for #2 on Mon.

It's only been a little over 3 months since I started so I can't give a really good response on the effectiveness of Fraxel. But right before my 5th fraxel I was noticing that my rolling scars looked like they had started to fill in slightly. This has me excited about the possibility of more improvement. I'll post more as time goes by on my results.
Went in for my second Fraxel today at 60 mjs level 8. My first was 55 mjs at level 8, and the very first test spot was 70 mjs at level 10.
My doc won't do 70 mjs at level 10 anymore because the redness never went away. I am still dark red after over two months in that one area.
No noticeable improvement in the depressionsyet, but I'll keep trying until I am bankrupt to get rid of these scars!
BTW, I WAS VERY VERY DISTURBED TO NOTICE SOMETHING ON THE FRAXEL AD TODAY. IT IS STILL SHOWING AS 'PENDING 501(K) CLEARANCE FOR SMOOTHING ACNE SCARS' CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THIS FISHY AS HELL STATEMENT MEANS?!?!
I think you meant "510(k)". Here is the link that explains it in detail:
http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/devadvice/314.html
A 510(k) is required when:
1. Introducing a device into commercial distribution (marketing) for the first time. After May 28, 1976 (effective date of the Medical Device Amendments to the Act), anyone who wants to sell a device in the U.S. is required to make a 510(k) submission at least 90 days prior to offering the device for sale, even though it may have been under development or clinical investigation before that date. If your device was not marketed by your firm before May 28, 1976, a 510(k) is required.
2. You propose a different intended use for a device which you already have in commercial distribution. The 510(k) regulation (21 CFR 807) specifically requires a 510(k) submission for a major change or modification in intended use. Intended use is indicated by claims made for a device in labeling or advertising. Most, if not all changes in intended use will require a 510(k). Please note that prescription use to over the counter use is a major change in intended use and requires the submission of a new 510(k).
3. There is a change or modification of a legally marketed device and that change could significantly affect its safety or effectiveness. The burden is on the 510(k) holder to decide whether or not a modification could significantly affect safety or effectiveness of the device. Any modifications must be made in accordance with the Quality System regulation, 21 CFR 820, and recorded in the device master record and change control records. It is recommended that the justification for submitting or not submitting a new 510(k) be recorded in the change control records.
4. A new 510(k) submission is required for changes or modifications to an existing device, where the modifications could significantly affect the safety or effectiveness of the device or the device is to be marketed for a new or different indication for use. See Is a new 510(k) required for a modification to the device? for additional information.

I think line item 2 applies. So basically it was never meant for acne scars. They're are just seeing if it works for them. Kinda like seeing if a facelift will work for acne scars, even though it is intended for facial sagging. That's all it is folks!
I am quite sure they will perceive it's effectiveness on acne depressions to not be as dramatic as wrinkles, if any effectiveness comes of it. But, I feel the right to bash since I am trying it anyway. It's not like I am not throwing my hard earned away.
The reason the sr1500 is not fda approved for acne scars yet is that it is a variation to the sr750 so the fda has to reevaluate it which can be a long process and is not yet complete. Also how beneficial is fraxel for hyperpigmentation and will it be potentially more effective for someone younger since i am only 18
So I've just got back from my first Fraxel 2, with the new tip? 6 passes at 40mj full face. It wasn't nearly as painful as I expected, but it wasn't exactly pleasant either; the upper lip was probably the worst... but overall OK. It was actually kind of nice and exciting when they were going over my worst area.. I was like yay *something* *is* going to happen to it! My acne isn't really that bad, though it has seemed it at times. Since I stopped smoking weed and I am eating well, drinking water and sleeping every night with Duac ($$) on, I'm clear.
I'm nowhere near as red as I thought I would be either. I even went into a mall right after to go get some sushi and I didn't notice anyone even looking twice. Right now my scars look OK, not radically different, but slightly improved, maybe 5% but unfortunately I think this will diminish over the next few days/weeks. My scars are very shallow, surface level, little to no depth. Oh well. Another one in another month...!
I have postponed my 4th session. I had V-Beam the day before. This has been fine previously, but the doc went more aggressive this time which resulted in local bruising. I was concerned this extra fluid could affect the proper penetration of the Fraxel into the dermis in those areas. The doctors agreed and were also concerned about Fraxel making the bruises rupture so we postponed. I previously posted that you could do the two together without contraindication because they operate on different principles (vascular and erbium), which is true, but the swelling/edema from V-beam can compromise Fraxel, and redness from Fraxel would be potentially dangerous for V-beam. So I will find and delete that previous post.
Hey guys. It's been about 1.5 weeks since I started Fraxel2. All the swelling has subsided and I am no longer red. I am done peeling as well. Like many of you, I haven't seen any improvement with this first treatment. I hate having to wait to see the final results, but I keep telling myself that this is just the beginning and I WILL see good results in time! So, for those that have done fraxel2, did you see results after the second one atleast or is it more like 3rd treatment?? I mean, it just boggles my mind that it takes months to see results...I want to stay positive about this though.
Tabula rasa: I had vbeam and fraxel done at the same time. I didn't have any bruising at all from vbeam and the Dr. advised that it was okay to do both lasers same day. But anyway, how are your treatments going? Have you seen any improvement at all since you started? Please elaborate.. I'd love to hear more on those that have already undergone 2+ treatments...
Hope everyones treatments are going well... how is everyone else doing with fraxel?
So it's my second day after Fraxel2, 6 passes 40mj... I'm not noticeably more red, however I am slightly more puffy/swolen.. going to go ice that shortly... overall I'm looking and feeling OK... no peeling or crusting or breakout or anything like that, which is surprising for me as I have ultra sensitive skin... Even thinking about going to a party tonight. Hopefully I meet some girls
The results are mediocre at best but it is only my first treatment so what do I expect? Think I'm going to have another one in a month. My derm is using a new tip.. I think they're the only ones in my country with it right now... I don't know exactly what it is (he definitely has the SR1500) but they were talking about how much better it is to use while they were doing me. So that must be good ... shrug.
how come people are getting one or two treatments, then posting a few days later and questioning lack of improvement?
i thought the whole point of fraxel is that instead of one major ablation procedure, the ablation is split up over six sessions . . . am i missing something?
I am also missing something else. Where are those who have had five or six sessions at 60 mjs level 8 plus settings? How has their imrpoved in the depressed scarring been? What's the deal here? I wanna know if this is worth it as the new photos on Fraxel.com look pretty bad for acne scarring Really, really bad.

I'm one with the higher settings, but it hasn't been long enough. My last one was a week ago. I've read past posts from months ago that showed 2-3 people who had great results after like 3-6 months after their last treatment. So we need to be patient!
Hi, I am 3 days past my 1st Fraxel (Palomar Starlux 1540 62/10/10 1 pass and 55/10/10 2 passes) and the redness has gotten a bit better (not much) swelling is much better, especially as the day goes on and now I am starting to peel/flake/crust and trying to put on makeup today (mineral) did not go that well. I usually wash and moisturize with Dove, but my doc gave me a Cetaphil type cleanser and moisturizer that I've been using. The moisturizer doesn't have much too it and no sunscreen, so I did use the Dove today - I like it better. What is everyone using for a cleanser and moisturizer and how often should I wash? I know I shouldn't exfoliate or scrub when washing, but these little hard flakes are bothering me. I itch, which I assume is normal, but I don't want to rub it for fear of pulling at skin. How does everyone here handle the first couple days and what should and shouldn't I be doing. Should I wash vigorously to get some of the flakes off or let them fall off naturally? My only instructions were what to use to wash and moisturize. She gave me Biofine which I've been using like a moisturizer and I think it's for redness. Not sure when to use that.
Thanks for any advice...I've been taking pics and hope to be able to compare between treatments, though I'm not expecting any real improvements until at least after #3 or #4 and then several months after #5. My doc's plan is to hopefully get 50% improvement with the Fraxel and then do subcisions and fillers. I'm also considering botox and fillers in my forehead after reading a post here about it.
