"THE BRONZING EFFECT"

After my first treatment I did not have bronzing, then I had my 2nd treatment and no bronzing until a week later and I still have it post 2 weeks... these lil areas around bottom of temples/upper cheecks starting getting that bronzing effect so bad that other people thought I got another treatment lol the weird thing it that the bronzing areas are in the exact same place on both sides. The office told me to start using the bleaching cream every day and it should go away.

Anyone else experience this? :wall:

Sounds more like hyperpigmentation than bronzing...

That's what I was afraid of, although I thought hyperpigmentation didn't occur with Fraxel?

It's less likely to occur...

I just got back from the office. She said it's just talking long to heal and its redness combined with the swelling. She said it's not hyperpigmentation. I'm to wear the bleaching cream 24/7.

The bleaching cream, I would think, is to prevent hyperpigmentation, not reduce the redness/swelling.

Too early Ylem. Fraxel is a tedious process. 5 treatments. 3-12 months. Hang in there.

for pitted scars one treatment isnt enough. you need 6. that's part of what i was trying to explain to ylem a few pages ago. i think she still doesn't get it. its a fractional, microscopic wounding process . . .

The deeper your scars are the more collegan you need hence the more sessions.... the more agressive sessions you will need.

thats just my logic talking.

my 4th session is coming up sooooon.

i was wondering, how soon after fraxel can i do microdermabrassion(i've had it done before and i found it very effective getting rid of red marks).

Did anybody ever answer this for her? I am curious about this, too.

Also, has anyone found that their skin is healing faster with each progressive treatment?

I called my doctor earlier and he advised me not to use any bleaching creams as they redden the skin..those who have applied HQ topicals post fraxel have reported this too..

I heard about Fraxel through a news program, which also mentioned that Fraxel's results are only effective for up to 10 years?

For this reason my bf is disapproving and unsupportive of me undergoing treatment.

Can anyone dispel this "fact"? I would love to believe that results are permanent..

Thanks for any help!

Hey guys - wow! 227 pages and counting. Anyways, I have a friend whose a regional sales director for fraxel and she gave me a cdrom full of photos, so I'm hoping I can upload it here:

Its an executable file, please scan with your virus protection if you are (and you should be!) wary of running random executables off the internet.

I always take these things with a grain of salt - if you didn't have good results you wouldn't make the CD! This thread has me thinking, however.... Luckily my friend also owns a spa so I get a bit of a discount.

well, ten years is an awfully long time to have better skin...but i can't see how anyone would know that specifically, as this hasn't been around for ten years, and your skin would not just go back to what it looked like prior when ten years have passed. plus, i would think that *if* the results were temporary, you would see a huge difference in how long it lasts for people depending on many factors, such as age, scar types/conditions, elasticity of the skin, etc.

an exact number on years that any treatment lasts just makes zero sense...it's like how they put years on vaccinations for how long they last -- but it absolutely isn't true. i have my dog tested for vaccines she had ten years ago to see if she needs them again, and the antibodies are still in her system, even though they recommend that she be vaccinated every year.

do you think that's a good idea? that's right when my skin is the most 'scabbed'/bronzed and i would definitely not recommend peeling it at that point. there is one spot to the lower right of my mouth that peeled much earlier (around the 3rd or 4th day) than the rest of my face and it continued to crack and re-scab for a week after -- it was super dry but also very red and sensitive. that area is currently slightly darker than the rest of my skin, which took 2-3 days longer to peel.

one of the doctors i consulted with said bronzing should occur after about 4 to 5 days, and that it's skin cells migrating to the surface. that said, however, i got a very 'bronzed' look but feel it was actually the super-dry top layer of skin flaking off -- if you looked closely there were tiny scabs for every spot where the wounding occurred, and that created the look of bronzing.

did you have more passes done to the areas where you are more red?

also, i'm wondering why the bleaching cream would work for this?

make sure to use sunscreen 🙂

i know it's bad idea but i don't have a choice. and i'm a female so i wear make-up too so i can hide the redness... the scabs and the swolleness is what i will have a problem with hiding.

and this will be my 4th treatment.

magic dust -- if it's that important to you to look presentable, i would reschedule the treatment. your doctor probably wants to go to a higher setting (and that would be most valuable for you), so there's a possibility you might take longer to heal, even.

if you don't want to miss the event, just see if you can reschedule...

🙂

Unfortunately, just as I had thought in the beginning, it doesn't look like Fraxel is really effective for pitted scars, as that is all I am looking to treat. What a disappointment; I feel real shitty right now.

Are you basing this off your own experience at 70 mJ? From what I recall, you only had 1 treatment, right? You don't really see results until the 3rd treatment.

With that said, fraxel is least effective for icepicks, which is what i assume you meant when you said pitted scars.

No I have rolling/saucer scars (also known as the soft scars that fade when stretched)...EVERYWHERE. I scar even when I get a tiny little pimple. I have ALWAYS been prone to ONLY these types of scars. And the resultant scar is SOO dramatic looking it's ridiculous. I have picked up an insane amount of additional scars since accutane, even though I don't break out that much anymore. These types of scars pose the greatest difficulty to treat, according to ASDS.

I have had 2 rounds on the temple area. 1st at 70 mjs 8 passes. The second at 55 mjs 8 passes. Scars still look the same. I have had one round on the rest of the scars at 55 mjs level 8. No visisble imrpovement yet there, even on a new saucer I just got a few days ago. It's heartbreaking I just want to kill myself. This is also after having silicone microdroplet and wire brush dermabrasion on my forehead. What makes anyone think Fraxel is going to work on my skin after all of that. I am just a non-responder to acne scar treatments, pure and simple, and I can only acquire additional scars.

And the worst part is I have to schedule my next appt almost 5 weeks since my last. Is this waiting too long. They have absolutely no availabilities for anything sooner for the Fraxel slots. It's so ridiculous that something like this could be so sought after.

I have spent tens of thousands and have fought with the most extreme vigor and NOTHING can work. I've tried therapy, avoiding mirrors, trying to live with it cause it will never go away and it just doesn't work. And I keep getting new scars that are impossible to treat. It hurts too much for me to even breathe. I repeat NOTHING has worked!! This is truly a curse from the devil and I am trying to figure out what I did bad in life to deserve this. I am even considering going to someone who can lift curses, as I truly feel I have had one for over 10 years.

ylem, YOU HAVE ONLY HAD ONE TREATMENT. you aren't going to see results yet! (regardless of what setting it was at or how many passes). your scars will not miraculously change overnight or in one month. that is not the way the treatment works, and many others including reliant have said this!

also, i'd like to just mention that anyone having a negative attitude is not going to help his or her treatment. remember the mind-body connection, people!

you are not cursed, ylem, but your outlook is really negative and i honestly think may be doing you more damage than the scars. you NEED to think positively for your own good. also please consider that others like myself who are undergoing treatment (or others who are considering it) would like thoughtful details about treatment/response and not to come here and feel down because of extreme negativity. i'm sorry to have to put it so bluntly.

5 weeks is a normal time to wait -- i know you have read that and can see it in people's signatures. people are treating anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks apart on average.

best of luck, but please cheer up! 🙂

Interestingly, my derm (who doesn't even own a Fraxel) said that whereas a few years ago he often considered no treatment was capable of improving severe acne scarring, having seen Fraxel's results, he now suggests Fraxel in many of those cases.

But it is slow and subtle. It resurfaces incrementally to initiate dermal remodelling. It will not produce immediate or dramatic improvement.

You've got to try to think of Fraxel as an investment in the future - a 6 month time capsule. So make a mark in your calendar for November, have your 5 sessions, ignore the temporary swelling, and if you can, try to get on with other things in the meantime.

Agreed, though it's more like a 12 month progression. You'll also probably need more than 5 treatments.
