--> Maya,
Sorry to hear some scars haven't improved that much. Do you have any idea why? I doubt it was because you didn't have an inside stitch since your scars aren't wide. I think you can excise the same area twice but you probably have to wait some time. My surgeon told me that if I wasn't satisfied with the result I could come back after 5 months. This, of course, won't be necessary for me since I'm very satisfied!
--> Eddy,
Are you willing to travel to Scandinavia? ) You are more than welcome, my surgeon is very nice, but I doubt you don't have any good surgeons in Canada. I was actually talking to my surgeon about different punch methods and he mentioned that just a simple punch excision might not work on the nose because the skin is thinner and not as easy to stretch there. He said that a punch graft might provide better results instead. Hope this helps!
Ok, here's my 1 month update:
Well, not much to say. I'm still very happy with the result. The area is still pink, it will probably take some months before it is fully healed. Very easy to cover with makeup though. For me, this was the end and has provided an improvement I have only dreamt about before! /
Maria - I am very happy for your improvement, unfortunately mine aren't as positive as yours as most of them still look indented - still, apart from 2 of them, I can no longer call them ice picks - they are more shallow. It's a long process for me I think but I am still positive that I can have more procedures and more improvement.
Hi, this question is for Maya and Maria and anyone else who has had excision done.
The flat linear scars that were left behind after the surgery, what are they like, specifically:
How long are they? How wide are they? Pigmentation - are they red, white, or another colour?
I have a saucer type scar in the middle of my forehead, I would say about 4-5 mm in diameter. I am going to have excision done on it in a couple of weeks. The surgeon said that the scar is going to be about 7-8mm long.
I'm just trying to anticipate what the scar will look like afterwards.
Thanks!
Homer
The linear scars are around twice as long as the original scar (I am still hoping they will dissapear/improve greatly within a few months but can't be too sure)
Please also bear in mind that some of mine are still indented and I also have the linear line.
The colour is RED!
Maya,
thank you! At least a small improvement is better than no improvement )
Best of luck next time you go to Dr Chu!
Homer,
I don't know if I'm extremely lucky or something but I can't even see the linear scar. The area is pink though, maybe I will see it when the skin is fully healed (?).
Maya- Sorry your not happy with the early results so far. From all the reeading that I'm doing, it will get better after a period of 3-4 months.
Maria-I happy for your success Do you live in the US? What type of skin do you have? Do you know if your surgeon would expect simliar results with indian-asian skin? Are all your ice picks level with the rest of your skin?
Jasmine-In your opinion, are the fine lines that you have permanent from this surgery level with the rest of your skin? If so, they can be completly camouflauged through highly pigmented concealor cream I believe.
Thanks!!
hi i told you to perform a second layer stich..You know i have 1 excision last april only single layer(Warning: I really did it mention to the board on FAQ last august 20)...you know what the scars become bigger(tat was perform by a dermatologist)...Meanwhile i went to a plastic surgeon who perform a 2 layer stich...I have talk to his patients(the doctor is 73),one lady went a mole removed on her chin, the other 1 chicken pox scar about 3mmx4mm...So a get their cel # and contact info...after a month i have talk to them and see them...Their scars was levelled to the skin fine lines are red,and no depression in the skin...
Remember that to perform a 2 layer stich coz thats your fucking face!!
like this in the states i have e-mail to this doctor...The first layer is nonabsorbable taken after 3 days..The second layer is vicrl absorbable:

People dont care about our fucking scars...We are concious about ourselves, coz this is our FACE..
do a research on this site about excision on skin cancers...::
http://www.plasticsurgery4u.com/index.html
Use silicon patch sheet if you want the red scars to heal faster, I have brought 2 from a dermatologist, well the red scars fade faster but a different brand::

or research on the net SCAR EASE photo before and after..
Rock,
thanks! I'm SO happy myself No, I don't live in the US, I live in Sweden. I have fair skin but I think excision would work well on all types of skin. I only had one ice pick (lucky me) but it is totally leveled with the rest of my skin. No one would know there used to be a deep pit there!
Don't worry Maya,It will take atleast a couple of months to see good results ,and with the red marks the scars looks worser than the really are.
You can re excise the same scar twice ,I had a few scars re excised .
The results were good.
But my feeling is excision is not the end , it is only a procedure that will
enhance your results ,because you are always left with a thin line ,
which does not look very nice ,especially if you had quiet a number of scars excised(which was in my case)
Claudia
Well, it's been 3 weeks - and although I would say overall they look better, most are still indented scars - 1 didn't work, 1 re-opened and now is slightly larger - all are still red, but the mandelic acid serum seems to be correcting this.
So, ice picks are more like boxscars now (which is still an improvement in my books)
The red lines aren't too bad, they're easily covered with a little concealer/powder
But I need to be patient, I guess it must take a couple of months to see the true results - but I am still getting more done in 2 weeks.
I have never seen a successful acne scar punch excised. Could you please post a single before/after of the icepick scar? EVERYONE, including you Maya, has stated that the scar usually gets worse, stretches, becomes depressed or opens after the surgery. In fact, Dr Rappaport refuses to do excision on anyone.
So please post a photo so we can see the positive results.
Maya,
How long after the surgery have you started using the mandelic acid ?
I just had surgery yesterday, and the bandages and stitches are to be removed next week.
I don't know how the technique could be called in english... but in short the scar is cut, elevated and stitched. I guess it's like punch graft but not with new skin. Maybe "elevation" ...? Anyway this is to be followed by laser.
I am to use an oatmeal cream after the stiches are put out

nottoobad,
As you probably know I'm very satisfied with my excision. My surgeon was confident that it would work on my scar...and he was right. I know that photos are the best proof but I don't really have any reason to lie. No one knows my surgeon's name and I don't think anyone would travel to Sweden just to get excision done...so there's no reason at all for me to lie about my results. I will post photos as soon as I have developed the film which I'll try to do soon.
vaudor,
What kind of tape do you have? Steri-strips or just ordinary "scar tape" (Micropore, Scanpor etc)? I had Micropore and if it falls off you can either put another tape strip over the scar or just let it be.
notToobad :
the laser is used to even out the elevation, and erase the new punch scar. I did not ask much about it yet to my doctor... I will get back to you on this.
Maria :
They are steri-strips. Right now I am putting ordinary band-aid on the strips' border, on two places that are coming off...
nottoobad,
Is this Dr.Rappaport of New Jersey? If so, according to his website he still does Punch. Punch seems to be most effective method to improve leveling of depressed scars.
Here is the link:
I come accross this method recently and it seems like most prople have positive results when they have this treatment.
First I'd like to say that it's WONDERFUL the way you all share.
I've really benefitted from this forum.A BIG thank you to everyone.
I'm very happy for you Maria.Could you please give me your surgeon's details in Sweden. I will consider going to him if I'm not entirely successful with Dr.Chu. Thank you in advance.
