Eddy - I think the stitches remained for 5-6 days. Thanks for the suggestions!

This excision thing sounds pretty cool in theory. Instead of slowly sanding a scar down, just cut the sucker out! However, I wonder how effective it is in practice. My sister had a mole on her back excised by a medical student and she got butchered!!! I know a medical student isn't a plastic surgeon but whenever I see that horrific scar on her back, I shudder in horror and start having second thoughts about letting some guy cut a chunk of flesh out of my face! So I was just wondering, anybody here regret their excisions? And if so, why.

hi i am in province right now..I will post this diagram(skin drawing) on a 2 layer stich this january if ai get in the city...2 layer stich is good than 1 layer coz if 1 layer stich is performed, if the stich is taken out after 7 days(without the second layer stich) your scars will widen coz no support underneath the skin..

...Sometimes w/o the second layer stich(first layer) scar become widen after many months, there is also a tendency that sacr will be indented coz no support at the dermis or fat layer.please remember that the dermis and fat layer takes a longtime to heal...

GUMBY:

plastic surgeons uses a .6 or .7 sutures....the .7 sutures as thin as the hair.

Well so far the majority of my scars treated look pretty good, one or two did not. The wierd thing is I broke out in this rash on my forhead and by my nose about two days ago, it was kind of like acne but not quite, I am not quite sure what caused it. I did eat a few different things, but then again my whole skin care routine got screwed up d/t the excision. The excised areas have alot of dry dead skin on/surrounding them. This is kind of annoying. Well, anyhow, I was told that you wont know the true results until a few weeks afterwards, so I will keep everyone up dated.

Had my last two excisions done today - on top of left cheek.

My excisions (3 and 4 months ago) are looking really good - some of them have completely dissapeared (I'm not even surte where the scars were now) but a few of them are still slightly indented - but getting better all the time.

Sorry it took me so long to post a message, been kinda buisy. Well here it is.......My excisions look pretty good. They are like lines. It was hard to tell at first due to the reddness around the areas, which is still kind of there, but seems to fade as the days go by. Also, it seems the excisions on my cheeks made my other scars less visible, I dont know if it was because it pulled the skin slightly tighter. Kind of weird. Well, the good news is............. I went the the doctor Monday so she could see how they were healing (the nurse had taken the stitches out prior) She said that all I really needed was two more holes (more like indents) excised, but instead of a stitch she would do a graft. After that the next procedure would be spot dermabrasion to my whole cheeks only. I am very excited for that. Initially when I had went to her, she was thinking 2-3 punch excisions and then dermabrasion. So, this is going along a lot less costly that I thought. I do have a few small scars on my nose, that I guess I could live with, she said they werent very noticable. I think I will take to the dermabrasion well, I am very fair complected so I dont have to worry about hypopigmentation. I have scheduled the punch graft for march. I have surgery in two weeks on my nose (deviated septum), so I wanted to let my body heel that for awhile.

Hello everyone. After finishing Accutane my senior year in High School (I just graduted with my B.A. in Elementary Education), I was left with a great deal of acne scars, primarily on my cheeks. These scars, as you can imagine, bother me a GREAT deal--they always have. I have had collagen injections two times and have been mildly pleased with the results. In an effort to find something more effective, I have been to four different dermatologists, all of whom, in the end, referred me to my current derm.. My acne scarring is, well, beyond severe. One of my derms. actually told me it was the worst case she had ever seen (always good for the self-esteem). In any event, my current derm. is rated one of the top 50 dermatologists in the Nation, and, beyond this, has recieved National acclaim, not only from various medical organizations, but also former president, Bill Clinton. He is well-known for his treatment of acne scars. Obviously, I am very excited, not only becuase of his status, but also because he is one of the only derms. in Indiana that performs an array of proceedures, including the surgery I am scheduled for on Jan. 21: PUNCH GRAFT EXCISIONS. During my consultation he said I would need between 20 and 30 grafts at 100.00 dollars each. Clearly I am overwhelmed by the cost, but, as I know many of you understand, this would be a small price to pay to finally rid myself of them. I suppose what I am wondering is if anyone has had this proceedure performed and if they can provide any photos. I really want to know what I am heading into. While I am only having two test grafts done on the 21, I am still a little worried. In the end, I suppose, anything will look better than what I have now, however, I am just wondering exactly what to expect. Thank you all so much for reading this and I welcome any replies.

Hey Travis - I haven't had the punch graft, just the excsions - but as far as I am concerned.. whatever you have in terms of excsions will still be better than the original scars.

Good luck - sounds very exciting. Please take a photo journal if you will.

I had around 8 punch grafts done about 5 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did. They had looked like big holes in my face. The PS took a cookie-cutter type device and put it in the existing hole to open up the edges. He then took skin from behind my ears and fitted it into the holes. He used tape to hold together, NO stitches. I had to keep the tape on for around a week. You can't tell there were holes there at all. On a few, there's just some slight discoloration (a little pinker than the rest of my skin), but no big deal I can hide w/a slight bid of make-up if I want. It looks SO much better than the holes I can't tell you. I am so happy I did it. Of course I have some rollings scars I'd like to get rid of, but after 2 dermabrasions and one peel, it still hasn't helped a whole lot. Actually the peel helped some, but made new scars. I don't have any pix, sorry. Good luck. Let me know how it goes. Tarmik

Fazzzay, I had 2 punchgrafts done on my nose. The grafts were then "sanded" with a laser (YaG Erbium). One grafted healed amazingly - you can't tell where the scar/hole was at all. The second well is open to debate - I'm not happy with it, but the Dr.s that I have seem since think it looks great - they don't understand what I see.

I have been lurking on this site for a year are so and am still interested in the punch excision. Is there a site that ranks the top surgeons in the world who do this I only need one scar excised. Of course its my face so money is no object. I live in the southeast, has anyone had any good results there? I have been to about 5 doctors all of them say its an easy proceedure and acts like it would be no big deal. But I want advice from someone who has been through it and am happy with the results. If anyone wants to email names please do at [Removed].

I had the last 2 scars I wanted punch excised done on Wednesday - this morning (4.5 days after) I took the stitch out of one of them. WOW!! Looks just like a pin prick! So cool!! biggrin.gif Will take the stitch out of the other excision tonight - it doesn't look as good as the other one - fingers crossed, but it looks like it slightly split. sad.gif

Now all my other scars look too small for punch excisions and will be effectively treated with TCA CROSS or Subcision.

Okay!! Took the last stitch out just now - and it bled quite a bit, I was really afraid that the excision had split open - it looks ok so far though smile.gif - covered it in a glob of neosporin and trying not to laugh (but that's impossible as the threads on the LOUNGE are just so funny LOL!)

And if this one works out OK, it will be my last ever excision YAY!!!!!!!!!

I was a little worried that the excision bled so much when I took the stitch out last night - that there was a chance that the excsion was going to split - but it seems to have held on really well - it still looks like a small scars, but no longer looks like a deep hole. biggrin.gif I layered emu oil, them neosporin, then manuka gel. That seems to have done it!

I just got off the phone today with Dr. Yarborough in New Orleans who told me dermabrasion would cost me over 4500 dollars (he is the most reputable dermatologic surgeon out there after doing tons of research)!! I also have another route to take. I want to do medical needling with the rollcit, but they were telling me that it was more than 150 dollars. I do remeber people saying that needling would cost me only 150, but this doc said it would be way more!! I am really lost now and need some help as to what to do!!!

todaY I HAVE DONE MY EXCISION ON 2 SCARS by a plastic surgeon. the surgeon only perform only a 1 layer stich..So no inside stich..It was a saucer shape scars(looks like chicken pox scar)..

I think you have read my message last year that the excise scar was a total failure coz it reopen-up the stiches(only 3 sutures)..This time the doctor stiches 5 sutures, the line scar was about 12mm...While the other scar has only 2 sutures(small about 4 mm line)..After the operation the doctor put serile strips on it. i will update my excision experience....

I take pain killer tablets about excision...tomorrow will go back to the surgeon to remove the band-aid..

some new pictures of excision which have research in internet:

heres my update in excision

i went to the dr. after 24 hours. He removed the band-aid and change the seri strips...The re-excise scar has dissapeared, i can see a thin line(looks like wrinkles in hand), but i was very worried coz i notice a very small indent, people out there(maya, eddie, mrly and maria,etc.?)...Do you think it will-pop up above skin level within time??? sad.gif

The other excise scar is so small, no indent only a thin red line..

I have excise my scar on another plastic surgeon(not the surgeon who performs 2nd layer stich) who performs without an inside stich..

So do you think how many days is good to remove the stiches coz i am afraid of suture holes and railroad traks, my dr. told me 5 days is this right?

P.S--> Everybody sorry about being to rude about excision in the previous post.i am very worried about the indent that i saw this morning when she changed the seri strips :-#

I do think pictures in the internet which i have research are 100 is to 10% some amount of people with great improvements..Mole excisions and excisions of acne scar...!!! sad.gifsad.gifsad.gifsad.gif

I think if the excised scar is indented, it is likely to remain indented (the case with mine) but I am performing TCA CROSS method on myself and the scars are now becoming more level. Also, TCA complexion peeling is making the skin more even across my whole face.

I don't know why, but some of my excisions worked very well, but a few were not good at all.

I am wondering why you did not have the 2 layer stitch this time?

Take care

Maya
