Long time listener, first time caller...

Thanks to this Dan for the website and everyone on this forum for sharing their information and experience. It has been tremendously beneficial!

Unfortunately, with my most recent (failed) attempt at retinoids, I had a large cyst that left a nice scar and began to heal starting a couple of months ago (9/1/22). It has a slight boxcar depression, but has a deeper linear edge to it as a reverse "C". So far the healing seems to be going fairly well using a few different topicals which I'll list below, however as you can see from the surrounding area, that area doesn't heal too well for me.

I would just really appreciate your opinion on how you would define this type of scar and share your thoughts on what else I might consider as a treatment option to give myself the best possible outcome here.

I have seen some research that would indicate that MN can help early scars, albeit for hypertrophic scars. Has anyone tried this on immature atrophic scars? Most posts that I see regarding MN seem to address older scars. Any thoughts or better treatment options would be greatly appreciated!

Current mix to help the spot:

  • Dr. Brenner's Vitamin C
  • SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Asiatica Ampoule Facial Serum
  • Stratia Liquid Gold (for the niacinamide and rose hip oil)
  • Aquaphor at night
  • BHA (x1 weekly)
  • Moisturizer and Sunscreen of course ;)
  • Considering low % retinol

I think you're handling it well and I have a feeling it will most likely fade pretty well. I see mostly redness instead of indentation.

Talk to a cosmetic derm about the MN. It sounds interesting. And if you do get it, keep us posted please.

Thanks Dan!

I'll be reaching out to a cos derm here soon. The study states that MN can be done as early as 6 weeks so it looks like I can get started right away. I'll keep everyone posted once I begin.

Any thoughts on Aquaphor vs silicone here? I understand that silicone is typically used to help with hypertrophic scars, but I'm curious to see if anyone has anything to share regarding its effect on atrophic scars.
