I have been updating on this site forever, but I have to share what has made the biggest difference in my skin. Ive done subcision, laser, and microneedling (in office and at home), and the BIGGEST difference Ive ever seen is with filler.
My dermatologist is Dr Gonzalez at Bowes Dermatology in Miami. She uses Belotero filler on me. Its expensive, honestly, at $700 each vial (I only need one) plus the cost of subcision if she does that too (Im not sure how much she charges for that) but it is SO WORTH IT in my opinion. It has changed my skin. The other day I told my friend I wouldnt be able to hangout because my face would be bruised from fillers. She asked what I get fillers for, and when I told her acne scars, she made me turn my head all around in the light to find them because she never even noticed them. I mean thats just so wild to me because before I started treatments, they were SO obvious. Theyre not gone, but theyre much softer and less deep. Theyre no the only things I see in the mirror anymore.
for upkeep, I have been getting my filler redone every 6 months. It improves a little more each time!
the first picture is an old collage I posted of my skin prior to my multiple treatments of fillers.
the second picture is how my skin looks the day after filler - bumpy and bruised.
the third picture is about a week after my last filler treatment. My sister commented my skin looked beautiful and I wanted to cry because I just gave up on ever hearing that.
if youre thinking about filler, Id highly recommending considering it and doing some research!

Wow, I would never know you have acne scars. Im in the area and may go to that office at some point after dermabrasion. Thank you so much for posting this.
Well there's a success with subcision and filler for sure, and yes typically they "should" work better after each time I guess it's different for everyone. You certainly look pretty darn clear for sure. But to be totally honest here, you have/had perfect scars for the situation. Practically no edges and well defined "puddles" that were pretty shallow to begin with. I think that makes all the difference.
Happy for you, you look great. Just a question on Belotero if you don't mind. I have a single depressed scar from a doctor made thing that I want to fill. It's got practically no edges but my question is do you know if your doctor said Belotero is better/worse than juvederm or method of subcision worked best with the filler, was it just very minor subcision in general?

Not sure why but many doctors I spoke to didn't recommend voluma or other more lasting HA fillers. It didn't necessarily seems like just opportunistic (want to refill every 6 months) it did seem like there are some concerns about it for whatever reason, but maybe I'm wrong and it's just doctors being doctors. I specifically asked opinions on things like sculptra, juvederm voluma, bellafill and others. Most said do regular juvederm which to my reading many reported it vanishes in like a few months.
I honestly don't remember if there was a consultation fee - sorry! I would just call and ask if you're in the area.
Yes, I don't have icepick scars which I know wouldn't respond to subcision and filler. I'm thankful that after years of treatments and thousands of dollars, I've found something that actually works for my skin and is worth the time and money.
I never asked her about this filler particularly. She said I can come every 6 months (which I prefer because it just makes me feel better) but that it can last longer, anywhere from 8-12 months, especially the more you get it done. I definitely think it's important to find an experienced doctor because I have heard, too, that if done incorrectly, it can "doughnut" your skin and leave a weird lump/dent situation like a little doughnut on the skin. Also, I personally wouldn't do a permanent filler like Bellafill because of the potential side effects!

I've read that there's a risk of going blind with fillers. Did your doctor mention anything like this to you?

Actually yes! I have a scar between my eyebrows that I asked her to fill and she said she doesnt like to fill that spot because if filler gets into the wrong area there, it can lead to blindness! So just avoid the area between your eyebrows

Dont tell people to use Voluma. It is unsuitable for acne scars. Voluma is thick and injected deeply, like on top of the bone. Its use is more for structure, not a soft dermal filler. Doctors dont want to inject Voluma in areas that move, because it doesnt look natural. There are countless complaints about doctors misusing it at patients requests under eyes, in lips, etc with bad results.
Want long lasting or permanent? Fat grafting is the gold standard.
Bellafill is FDA approved for scarring, and lasts up to five years they say. I have a friend that had it injected to improve her jawline 3 years ago, and its still very much there.

Theyre steering you right. The longer lasting HA fillers are meant to be injected deeply, and are more structural. Because theyre so firm, the results wouldnt look natural, as the filler wouldnt move with your skin as you move your face like the soft dermal fillers do.
What reason did they give to not use Bellafill?

I just have one spot due to a linear scar from a excision or revision or both that made it worse. I went to 2-3 last year and each said juvederm. I'm not sure why they didn't say bellafill but I asked for "what about longer lasting like Juvederm longer lasting" and they said nah. I personally don't get it. I don't want to refill my cheek every 3 months and bend my collagen I'm already losing with pores that are already messed up somewhat.
I was thinking of flying to Rullan for this simple procedure just to get it done right and get some advice on pores and texture which is messy, but it's across the coast and if any doctor here can do it right I'd just do it here with a longer lasting one.
