Uploading a lot of pics in different lighting to give most accurate impression possible of my scarring. I am thinking of lower percentage (maybe 50-70%) TCA cross to these mostly boxcar scars (I think they are boxcar, correct me if you disagree). I have circled some areas that bother me the most. Will CROSS make these areas worse? I wonder if most are too wide for tca. I am also concerned the shoulders might not be classically boxcar. I know tca works best with ice picks. Only a few scars on mostly my right cheek seem definitely narrow and deep enough to be tca candidates. I will be seeing a dermatologist (who performs Tca cross) for evaluation, but I want to hear what you guys think so I can evaluate whether or not the doc is just trying to take my money (and potentially make my face worse)!
also, is the volume loss significant in my scarring? Too much for tca to fill?
No one really knows if it will make it worse select two scars and get at least 3 cross session and see the outcome. If it doesnt congrats you can start treating. The rest of the scars.
I read that TCA cross can help or harm. I've read times where it heals/helps a lot and also when others are distressed at it widening scars or perhaps slightly deepening them as well.
I've seen 4small scars widen personally so I know that there could be downsides. I tend to think those downsides are more attributed to case to case rather than implementation (since it's just dipping toothpick head in TC Acid and touching center a tiny bit or what not).
The best advice is what getsmart said. Try it but only try 1 or 2 spots. Do not do like 15 spots before you see how you react. Doctors don't have to live with worsening results you or I do, so either pay more or find a doctor that isn't a total A-hole and cares more about 15 minutes than testing your face. This is such a simple, quick and mostly a '$800 or $1000'cost procedure that it makes zero sense to risk 15 spots versus 1 or 2. For what? Waiting 4 more weeks?
Your scars could get wider but shallower which is a tradeoff that many people are happy with. But they could just get wider. It's hard to tell and none of us are doctors or prophets.
Many people have done TCA without any side effects so there's some hope. You can chat with your doctor and ask how the TCA is applied. It's generally better to have TCA on the base of the scar instead of on the edges.
