Hey guys, I wish I wouldve done more research when getting my acne scar treatment.I went into it thinking there would be no side effects or repercussions. Im 19, and the dr gave me a plan of phenol cross, subcision, Bellafill, and rf micro needing. I wish I wouldvefound this forum and seen what treatments are good and not. The doctor had told me that Bellafill works for only 5 years, and not that it was permanent plastic. Along with that I suffered hypopigmention from the phenol cross. Ive been heavily depressed these last past couple of months. Thats what I get for trusting the doc and thinking everything will be fine. Hopefully, in the future theyll find a way to dissolve the PMMA that is in my face currently. Thankfully, I only did one injection but its stilljust really depressing. I feel like an idiot. I feel so scared to ever do any scar treatments like this again.
Thank you so much for posting this. This is why I always say to be your own advocate, do your own research, and trust yourself, not any doctor. It's your face, your skin, and your future.
Got a pic? Usually pigmentation stuff is temporary, so hopefully it will go back to normal. But yeah, phenol is crazy strong and you gotta be so careful.

Just out of curiosity what went wrong with the Bellafill? My understanding was that fillers could be dissolved, or is that just juvederm?
Hopefully it'll subside or improve, because pigmentation 'should' technically reverse, much of the time, over the long haul. Pigment is created by the under layers of the skin, so my understanding is phenol probably is an outer layer thing (acid) right? So if the other layers are in tact and the phenol didn't damage deeper that's probably good.
What besides the pigmentation from the phenol went wrong? Did the scarring worsen, increase? Is the filler uneven?
I too had a flawed subscision or excision and TCA cross created a few more problems for me.
Bellafil and sculptra are considered 'permanent' and they can't be dissolved like HA filler. Bad if it migrates, or is injected with poor technique, but in the event that the doctor gets it right the result is fantastic and long lasting. especially this guy is 19, so his collagen is going to be insanely high and likely hyperresponsive to treatments. Idk how bad his scars are really but I wouldn't be surprised in a case of insane improvement when you are that young. Even the scars I remember I had when I was 17-18 mostly faded naturally. the scars I got in my mid 20s much less.

It's not the money, I just don't want to aggravate a sensitive area like that every 6 months. I was pondering fat filler but I read so mediocre/mixed reviews on here and other doctors seem to think it's not that helpful when I got 2nd opinions. To me, logically thinking about it, fat filler seems like it would be most helpful simply because it would "reconnect" and morph into blood carrying blood vessels over time assuming much survives. What am I missing with fat fillers?
I guess in the end even some fillers have some aspects of luck and injection talent even if it's mediocre talent like breaking up the tethering properly/well.
I thought the same as you that my own fat - fat fillers, fat grafting would be the best filler to use. My derm who I trust said it is really unpredictable - it can get lumpy, just dissolve, get hard, etc. Bellafill is not an option in his mind as it is more permanent, can ball up, be hard and must use surgery/excise to get out. We opted on Restylane as it lasts for around one year. Yes, it is a bummer to go yearly and may think of going to an expert at some point in fat grafting. It just seems logical to use your own fat, your own body's material to replace the collagen and fat lost over time and the damage caused by cystic acne - the atrophy or sinking of the skin that causes the uneveness in our acne scarred skin.
