I was going through before and afters of acne scar treatments and personally I find the results quite underwhelming. I dont really believe in percentage improvement as lighting plays a big role in how severe the scars look. (Indoor lighting is so much better than outdoor daylight for example.) I dont know if I will ever accept the fact that I have acne scarring even after treatments. I have yet to see an excellent result.
How many treatments you had till now. For that I think learning to self treat is the best investment you can make.if you really have shallow scars then going to doctors is fine to take it to next level, if the scars are bad then you are better of starting on your own and lifting the scars. As you dont know when can you happen to see lifting of scar with doctors. If you have deep scars then scars will start to look shallow. And may be invest in only subcision or deep peel at the end.
here is a tricky thing the scars in person can tell the difference for sure but somehow for it to be reflected in camera it really need to start looking way good for it to be captured.
one way to see if it working is feeling the depression with you finger tips.I remember I used to feel a pit depth but after doing tca crosses I started almost feeling the tissue is more normal to the surface than before. But again this can be captured after some time. I saw some of my scars widening but getting shallower.
I show most of my scars on my thread in harsh lighting (similar to what you would see when you visit a dermatology clinic, harsh overhead lighting). However no one will see your skin in this lighting 99% of the time. What matters to me is how I look outside and how I look in normal lighting settings. How will people see me when I go on a walk? Or in a restaurant?
I have pretty severe BDD because of this and accepting I can look ok in certain lighting and absolutely shit in another lighting setting is hard.
AnywayI digress. Treatments wont cure your scarring 100% and wont fix your outlook. Im not going to wait for the technology to be there, Im going to live my life.
I just really wish skin was more resilient. I mean for goodness sake, it's our bodies largest organ, but it is so damn fragile. Even the smallest of pimples has to scar our skin permanently?? Meanwhile our hair and nails can grow back endlessly. It's just so frustrating
To answer your question, I think there will be more emphasis on prevention in the future than anything. But I don't doubt collagen induction and remodeling therapies will get more advanced one day at a time
The more important thing is that the world we live should have more tolerance for people who has skin issues. We accept people who is overweight, we accept who is bald, we accept LGBT communities, why cannot we accept people who has skin issues, for example scars on face.
