Been dealing with severe cystic acne since I was 14 (25 now) and finally have been able to get it somewhat under control (although still get pretty frequent breakouts). Ive been through accutane twice but have relapsed both times , and dont want to put my body through a third trial so only use topicals now.
As you can tell, ive been left with some pretty knarly scars which really puts a dent in my confidence - largely at my own fault from picking at cysts over the years. Im reaching out to the community as I want to improve my quality of life and finally gain my confidence back, and was hoping for your thoughts on what treatments would work best for me. I think subcision + fillers can do a lot of good on my cheeks, and the overall texture can definitely be improved (CO2 laser maybe).
Ive done a few sessions of microneedling at home (up to 2mm on my cheeks), however I cant say Ive noticed a ton of change. My routine below:
Morning:
Oil free cleanser
Vitamin C + Hylauronic Acid
The ordinary Niacinimide + Zinc
Night:
Epiduo Forte
I also use the Ordinarys 30% AHA + 2% BHA, but thats a relatively new addition and tbh dont think it will do much.
All options are on the table and fortunately money isn't a huge issue given my job pays fairly well and been saving a lot of money during COVID, but at the same time I want my money to be going towards something that will actually make a real difference.
What would you recommend for my acne scars - all suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Skip the microneedling.
Multiple subcisions, phenol cross, andtemporary superficial fillerlike juvederm volbellaafter multiple subcisions. Subcision is rather underwhelming when done in isolation but it must be done for the filler to work. Then resurfacing, given it's a small area probably an ablative laser of some sort - someone else on this forum would knowbetter about lasers.
All above procedures carry the risk of permanently worsening your skin. Your scars are mild and most won't notice.
