Question...I've had Fraxel 1550 many times with little to no result...I have depressions in my skin that are rolling and boxcar scars. I am thinking that fully ablative laser would help lift them. Will try TCA cross first. Would CO2 laser be a good choice for fully ablative laser to try to fill in / raise the depressions in my skin?

As it's name implies, fully ablative laser will remove the surface layer in its entirety. However, this is not the best approach for "lifting" the depressed rolling/boxcars. Fractional CO2 or RF micro will be better suited for this purpose.

However, note that all the treatments you mentioned above pretty much serve the same purpose, namely heat-induced collagen remodeling. But "collagen remodeling" in this context should be understood as collagen tightening, not collagen production. Unless you have very shallow scars or finewrinkles, these treatmentswon't stimulate enough collagen to fill up your scar pits. For that, it's much easier (and cheaper) to get dermal filler.

Thank you! I do plan on getting fillers eventually. But I think I should do TCA first to make sure any harsh scar edges are softened. Hey, what would be the name of a Fractional CO2 laser? I will look into this. I am currently trying RF microneedling but not sure how much that will help as my rolling / boxcar scars are quite deep, some of them...

Any pictures? Have you researched subcision for rolling scars? Ifknow a good doctor who has extensive experience with lasers, CO2 treatment for boxcars may be beneficial. Fully ablative CO2 lasers are a high reward/high risk type of procedure suitable for very light skinned individuals. Fractional CO2 is better for darker skinned people and those who want a shorter recovery time with fewer risks.

I've already mentioned it in the poster's own thread but it is worth mentioning again. Red head skin types, very light with freckles are in the same higher risk category as darker skin tones for developing keloids from laser.

More power to ya then. I wish everybody could see that much improvement! :)

Keep us updated on your treatments and let us know how much they improve.

Thank you, I have the same hope.  Good luck with your treatments too

My scars are very mild, I have shallow box cars and some scarred pores/ shallow ice picks.  but I think most of them are on the same plane. My problem is that I'm just a university student and where I live it's difficult to find a real specialist. I wanted to try tca cross / paint, but there is no one here performing these procedures. And most of the treatments offered are normal needling or lasers, someone offered sculptra and ematrix. I would like to start with manual methods, I think I'll try some medium peels and see how my skin reacts while I save money for a deep peel. I have never had any treatment with a specialist but I found a plastic surgeon who seems to have experience with peels and lasers. Especially co2 laser resurfacing and as much as I think my scars are superficial enough for that, maybe is a bit too much for me.

Hi! I posted pictures in another thread yesterday that I started - not sure if you're able to view my other forum posts.

Which doctor do you know? I'm in the Boston area. I did have subcision but it was not the traditional field subcision and it was done only on certain individual scars

What's an example of a fractional CO2 laser? Certain brand/name that is typically used for this treatment?

Thanks!

I don't know any doctors in that area. I had TotalFX - not super new but it's powerful. Halo is a newer one but I don't have experience with it.
