Hi All,

I would like to know when grading acne scars, what lighting should we use? Is it harsh, normal or diffuse light?

When I use harsh spot lighting, some of my scars look very deep, like over 2mm in depth, but I know it shouldn't be the case since my derm has kept telling me those are shallow boxcar/rolling scars. When I see those scars out of house, they are less deep and looks like shallow scars and under diffuse light, they are barely visible.

Thus, I was wondering what light should we use in regards to scar grading.

Well, for treatments, you will want the most accurate assessment of your scar. Otherwise, what's the point? As such, using angle lighting approach is the most ideal, as seen in the following pic.
