Awesome update and happy for the improvement you've received. I'm going to do a CROSS (and maybe needling) with Rullan in December and then evaluate my next move. I'm interested in Perfect RF sessions next year so be sure to send an update and PM me to look out for it. Not much in Cali but hoping more doctors get their hands on it.

I've gone to multiple doctors in the Bay Area and have only seen very minimal results with lasers and peels. After reading multiple threads, I have finally decided that it is best to travel instead. I plan to go to Dr. Rullan for my severe ice pick and boxcar acne scars and am awaiting a response back from them. I am curious, is it best to fly to San Diego from the Bay Area instead of driving? Was it just more convenient for you to fly?I was thinking about driving there to just save some bucks.

@spop1234I found it pretty convenient to fly, as I use credit card points to book the flights. I also don't have a license, so I don't drive.

I fly Southwest, and it's a very quick flight. My guess is that the cost of gas is probably the same as a flight to San Diego.

I see one advantage of driving is being able to hop in a car and drive back home after a more invasive procedure, like subcision, which greatly distorts your face. When I've had subcision, I had to stay down there for a few days so that my face looks somewhat normal.

@spop1234I think it's better to fly like SB said. It can end up being cheaper then having to pay for gas and food during your 4+ stops each way. Also, less likely you'll get in an accident by flying vs. driving. On the flip side, you'll avoid people giving you looks if you don't plan on staying several days in SD.

Quick update that a few scabsare starting to loosen and fall off as I wash my face, and I expect that a significant number of scabs will fall off tomorrow. This is similar to the timeline as my last three CROSS sessions.

This time around, I kept the use of Aquaphor to a minimum, and instead used my normal moisturizer (Dr Sam's) and sunscreen (LaRoche Posay). A few days in and I'm noticing some redness, dryness, and itchiness, so next time around, I will go back to using Aquaphor more heavily. I am currently in the Pacific Northwest which is much colder than San Francisco / San Diego, so I think it's irritating my skin, because I have been walking outside more in the cold.

Just now, Iput on some Aquaphor to help calm it, and didn't use my Dr Sam's moisturizer(which has Niacinamide, an ingredient which supposedly helps with would healing). So hopefully everything will be much less irritate tomorrow.

@spop1234@superburrito@dodgerguy

I went to Rullan from the Bay Area last Thursday and what I did was get a one way ticket to SD, and then rented a car and drove it back to return in the BayArea. If you bookit in advanced they will let you return it at a different location then the one you pick up from (I went thru Hertz).

This was best of both worlds for me because you cut the driving in half if you were going to drive, and you dont have to go thru an airport and get on a plane, which for me would have been a little bit too much with how I looked. But if you dont mind getting looks then flying both ways would be good. I definitely wouldnt suggest driving both ways though...thats a total of about 15-20 hours of driving, which would be really, really hard, and would require you to get a hotel. It would end up being more expensive and put a ton of stress on you.

Hey there superburrito,

I was treated the day after you, and I just got phenol CROSS & subcision. I don't think my scabs look even close to wanting to come off yet. They're dark pink and I guess feel kind of scabby, but they all look very firmly attached. Is that normal?

I also have a "PCA pigment bar" that has kojic acid and licorice, which was recommended by BA. Not sure if I should start using any product other than moisturising right now though, since I'm only on day 5. What do you think?

BTW, I chickened out and didn't put the dermablend on yet, even though I went out in public. It's cuz Dr. Rullan said to wait 1 week before using sunscreen or makeup.

@swenIts possible that mine are falling off faster because Dr Rullan used a lighter coat, it feels like the deeper the scar the more firmly attached the scabs are. And also areas of less movement like the temples take longer to come off.

My sense is that the way your scars look are completely normal!

Hello @superburritoI have my appt booked with dr Rullan in February 2020. He recommended me to get Cross with carbolic acid, subcision and microneedling. He gave me a price quote of $1700 which seems a lot according what other patients paid so not sure how much is it for each procedure. How much did you pay for each trio?. I am really curious to know your results and I believe you got three trio so far.

thank you and hope to hear from you

@RevishaI believe the price has gone up significantly due to demand, so the price I had last year is no longer valid. Im on my phone now, so dont have exact pricing off the top of my head.

From my understanding, Dr Rullan is using fillers now during subcision, so that might part of the pricing. Also,I believe pricing is also based on the amount of area covered.

You might be able to prepay for a package of several trios to receive a discount, so thats worth the ask.

i think Rullan is being very unfair with the pricing. 2 years back he use to charge $300- $500 for subcision, $300 for CROSs and $300 for microneedling. Package price should be even cheaper

When I had my first trio a year ago, it cost around 1200 or so (can't remember the exact price).

I think right now he charges 1,250 for subcision alone.

I actually think the pricing is fair given his expertise and relativeto other doctors who gouge you. I had another doctor in LA quote me 30k worth of treatments.

Dr Davin Lim who is also another great acne scar specialist charges much more than Rullan if I recall.

Holy crap!!

I was quoted $1500 for the trio this summer. I opted for just phenol cross and subcision and that came out to $1350. Id like to just get phenol cross again, Iwonder how much that would be.

Agreed. Rullan's prices were extremely competitive prior to this past year, now he's just hovering around market value. I shopped around a bit in my area and a lot of these places charged more for sub than what Rullan charges today.

All things considered, Rullan is still well worth it for me, even with the travel/flight costs.

From what I remember on their pricing slip, I think Phenol is $250 alone. But it seems pricing has been constantly changing lately!

My question is why did he increased his prices exponentially? We cannot compare with him expensive places like LA or New York.

I might be nitpicking here, but going from $1100 two years ago to $1600 today isnot exponential.

I saw him over a year ago and the trio was 1000 so it has raised quite a bit but again hes a top specialist so when you compare him to others in his field his prices are still competitive. I found a doctor in DC (where I live) who does phenol cross if anyone is interested, hes listed under the acne doctor list that beautifulambition put together, Dr Adrian. I am going to see him for a pheneol cross session and he charges 300 for a session.

I just inquired and phenol cross by itself is $400. Gotta think about this lol

Interesting. I don't recall it being that much just from a month ago when I was there. Yeah that is a tough one lol. For comparison, the person above stated another Doc in DC charged him $300 for phenol.

I've heard they package deal some treatments, so it might be worth it to inquire on what options they might have.

Hello all, just a quick update that about a week ago I started noticing firm lumps around where my Juvederm fillers were injected back in July 2019. A few days ago, massaging the lumps seemed to help slightly for one side of the face, but not the others. And they were are also red/inflamed. It seemed that I am having a late-onset reaction to the fillers.

redness.jpg.54c3046e86eb47c31a6e5d49595386a3.jpg

Yesterday, I woke up to the lumps looking more red and feeling more firm. I contacted the doctor's office, and I was put on a course of Prednisone. I took my first dose last night and this morning, I can already see that that lumps have subsided greatly, and some of the redness is gone. So far, I'm glad the treatment was straightforward. Phew!

Coincidentally, I also have a very bad cold right now. Perhaps while my immune system is fighting the cold, it triggered a reaction to the fillers.

This overall is making me more hesitant overall with fillers in the future. I had even been considering Bellafill at some point in the future, and now that's a no-go for me, since complications from Bellafill are even harder to treat.

Has anyone else had bad reactions to fillers?

I have had several types of fillers in the past--HA ones Sculptra, Radiesse, and now Bellafill x 2 vials. I only get the injector to do one vial at a time and wait one month before each. These are for my deepest scars that will not respond to the lasers, Infini RF, whatever. Meaning, my rolling scars that are the deepest were being filled out slowly. We can also add more but not possible to take away, if it is Bellafill. I have had no bad reactions to Bellafill at all. My nurse injector is very careful and used good technique. She is very patient and spend a lot of time going through each scar. I see how doctors on videos rush through the injections for fillers My own dermatologist and before that a plastic surgeon rushes through. The nurse injector I have found is amazingly patient and thorough. It is not yet perfect as 5cc make up one teaspoon. And each vial of Bellafill has only 0.8 cc. Bruising takes up to one week to 10 days. Swelling goes away in 3 days.
