Greetings. I did a 10 months course of accutane and I'm left with persistent red marks and a bit of scaring. I decided I want to get a fractional laser session and I was wondering how long I'd have to wait to get it done. Last pill was early March so it's been almost 4 months already. Am I good to go, or should I wait longer?
Speak to the individual DR. Acid and peels you need 6 months after treatment. The skin is thin and in poor condition. Tell the Dr about Accutane and let them address this. A specialist can do some treatments on/ slightly after tane.
Your best bet is subcision and filler if you have pits. These can be done now.
Reds can be treated with vascular laser as the skin is protected.
Some have to wait a year after for things to fade and clear up (skin is slow to heal).
IF you want more advice on treatment, we have helped thousands post here, ... a pic of a close up is extremely helpful or you can PM me. Laser is not the best way to start normally.
Dr.Lim write this :
"this dogma of lasers and isotretinoin has been indoctrinated into practice over the past 30 years! Initial papers were on high dose accutane with very aggressive treatments such as fully ablative CO2 laser and full dermabrasion.
I frequently perform fillers, subcsion, TCA CROSS, eMatrix, needling, and low density fractional lasers on patients who are on lowdose Accutane. From a legal point of view, your treating physician may want to wait 6 months or longer- this is understandable as each Specialist will draw upon their own risk benefit ratio and previous experience. ^ Please be very careful spreading this information. You are telling people basically they can do anything and if they have any issues Dr Lim / Your Advice will cover everyone equally. If Dr Lim treats his patients he is liable for their care and to fully check them for various other conditions, factors, health needs. He also has to use his expert judgement to gauge what is appropriate andwhat can cause harm. We can't simply make blanket generalized statements. I have seen people's faces absolutely ruined by doing treatments too soon. If you look in the Accutane sub of this site a common complaint is the skin is fragile, in poor condition, and damaged while on Accutane and directly after. Please use caution when being treated. Many Drs will throw lots of treatments at you even if it is not prudent or wise to do so. There is only one Dr Lim. Perhaps more Drs do not treat those who just had Accutane for factors they have been sued for or had bad experiences, just one of these would be terrible but when a pattern is correlated one has to wonder what is going on.
Some have destroyed their skin with low settings on the very first time of usage (a known side effect - which is applicable to other energy devices). It's not good to start with laser "in my opinion. Please see the faq if you wish, this has more info on DIY at home treatments to start for Acne patients, ... oftne those again on Accutane or after have wounding which is PIE and not scars (See the skin section and PIE). As things naturally get better less work $$$$ is needed to the skin, a better evaluation of the true scars can be given.

So I went to a derm, she talked fast and rushed through the appt really. In regards to my healing wound/ scar, she said to wait 6 to 9 months and I would be "shocked" at how much it filled in.I will note that on Tuesday my healing scar (8 weeks since trauma this weekend) peeled like I had the worst sunburn ever and then over the next 48 hours, filled in a bunch more, so it's looking better than it was.
Thanks.
