Atrophy, hyperpigmentation and return of cyst after cortisone injection

I had a huge cyst on my cheek for almost 3 months before I went for a cortisone injection 3 weeks ago. The cyst sank immediately within days but it appears that there is still a small layer of pus underneath my skin. At the 1 week mark, an indentation/atrophy appeared at my injection spot. The skin continued to sink and there are also 2 dark spots/hyperpigmentation at the injection site. Over the days, the atrophy has only gotten deeper and the spots have only gotten darker. I went to my dermatologist and he told me to wait to see if it fills back and gave me a scar cream to reduce the hyperpigmentation. But today, I felt that the layer of pus underneath my skin has started to pop up again. It feels like the cyst is growing back again!!! Any advice on what to do?? Is it advisable to go for surgery to drain my cyst when there is an indentation? For those with similar experiences, what did you do? How long did the hyperpigmentation take to go away? Will the growing cyst go away again if there is still cortisone in my injection spot? Help!!

Cortisone atrophy takes many weeks to fill in. They must be very careful with the dilution. Too much and you atrophy. Filler can be used temporarily for this or you wait many months for it to resolve.

Regarding PIH, laser can be done but not at this point. Vascular laser is for discoloration or IPL. I would wait a few months to see what happens.

The area sounds like it's still infected. Have you tried hot soaks daily on it. I would not think about draining it for a few weeks.

Have patience. You can always get a second opinion which I recommend.
