It depends on the scar type and how severe it is. For example, Infini works better with mild to medium scars whereas subcision would be better for tethered and deep scars. Moreover, both Infini and subcision will have very minimal effect on icepick scars. For that, TCA cross is a better investment.
There is no maximum depth. Every face is different, every scar, ... every location on the face. The doctor needs to pinch your skin and feel for thickness. This is how they determine depth / and their experience, ...not maximum depths. Sure if your face is very very badly scarred with fibrosis and thick the doctor will have to max it out to get through the scar tissue (fibrosis). The machine is extremely dependent on skill, not some set of settings.
Agree with BA and @Sirius LeeHowever if scar are fibrotic, and one has good amount of subcutaneous fat, 3.5 single pulse with long pulse duration can help. Reason is that even though one dials in 3.5, in reality the needle goes to 2 to 2.5, depending on the fibrosis. The solenoid has a role to play in this depth. Some devices have a better solenoid motor than others. As BA says, treatments need to be individualised. In fact with good RF microneedling the specialist may adjust the settings 3-4 times depending on the area and the ' feel' during the treatment.
