There were improvements on my right cheek and below by right cheek bone, there were also improvements on my left cheek. That being said, the area below my left cheek bone, the texture got screwed up and it went worse than it was.

Would I do subcision again? If I could go back in time, I would only do it on my cheeks and not below my cheek bones. Hope that clarifies.

Oh gosh ok. How did I to worsen? Did you do anything else after the subcision?

I did not do anything other than subscision. Well for one it left me with a rolling scar at the point of incision, and secondly overall the texture of the skin worsened. Also I have brown skin and there was some hyperpigmentation.

If you are scared, ask him to not to go aggressive, you should be fine.

Unfortunately with scar treatments there is always a risk, we all heal differently, the only way to find out is to try it and see if it works for you.

Only treat the deepest scars that bother you most, that is what subcision is for.

I have noticed that a lot of people have mentioned that Dr. Rullan goes too aggressive sometimes. Honestly, if this is your subcision with Rullan, I would definitely go moderate. His standard subcision seems a bit too aggressive. There have been a couple of people who have had lumps.

I also agree that you should be conservative and do just a couple areas with the worst scarring, don't overdo it.

@scarredtodepression, if you had success with your regular derm, why aren't you continuing with them? At least you know what to expect.

I think both the OP's experience and my experience is a testament to the fact that moderation is the way to go forward especially when doing subcision. I've got almost identical issues as the OP since the doc was overly agressive with the procedure.

This got me thinking why we are doing such invasive procedures for acne scars. Possibly because we lack self confidence due to a life with somewhat moderate scars that are visible to the naked eye. However, I've seen countless accounts of people who were succesfull with dermapen alone.

@scarredtodepression if you are concerned about the outcome, and keep in mind you have darker skin tone, i would think more on the subcision before you jump into it. Consider alternatives like 2mm microneedling done by professionals for a year or so. That is my battle plan in the future at least. Regardless, dont do something you might regret horribly post procedure.

Looking back at my before pictures, as far as the front of my cheeks were concerned, I would probably stick to TCA Cross for those ones.

You guys must be wondering why I am not in fumes even though part of my skin got worse. Its because I knew going in that there was always this risk. With invasive procedures like subscision, its not always sunshine and rainbows.

For some people, it works great, for others it doesn't but there is only one way to find out.

Do you have a topic with pics regarding your subscision with Rullan on this forum? I couldn't find anything.

I underwent treatment in Denmark by another doctor, but the complications you are mentioning here is more or less the same and similar procedure. Nokor subcision, wherein the doctor operated pretty agressively.

Can you please provide a closeup of the section of your left cheek that you think got worse? I feel like pictures would do it justice, especially with doing a before/after.

@ScarredtodepressionI just had subcision with him yesterday. He is quite aggressive but he explains why he is doing what hes doing. It makes sense. So I think it does just comes down to how you heal. Crossing my fingers that I heal well. He also did aggressive microneedling after he subcised my face. I am not in pain, I'm swollen but it just feels like a massive bruise. I actually got sunburnt the day before and that's literally all I'm feeling pain from right now. With every single procedure you take risks. Even with microneedling. I'll try updating as I go through my phases once swelling goes down a bit and I can suction.

Hey @Cleopatra88I just got done and he did the exact same procedure on me. Maybe we should stay in touch. I feel the exact same way. I was tender in the first hour but now my skin is smooth and swollen.

@Amp2695yes. He did my temples, between my eyebrows and around the mouth and jaw where some docs wont. My experience has been good so far. I saw him on Tuesday! You can check out my post "acne scar help" for updates if you want to

theres a lot of facial nerves there that could cause paralysis on side of face which is rare but i went to a derma here in phi and he said he doesn't do temples. but with cannula it is fine.

How much does TCA + subcision cost? I should be able to drive back to LA after the procedure is done right?
