I think by this point I have read it all regarding treatments and seems that really every single food item in your kitchen will cure you. However, how are dermatologists still in business?

I am trying to separate "wishful thinking" from "scientific fact" in determining what my options are. I am certain my scars are not as bad as some, but that does not mean they don't bother me and I will go under the knife if that is what it takes.

I had a couple infected hairs next to each other leave me a big nice dent. That was approx 7-10 days ago. I have been putting vaseline on it daily and it is mostly calm and healed over but I am now wondering where we go from here? Do acids really work? Any topicals at all?

If doctor intervention is the only route, what are those options and when? Wait a year just to get things going? Injectables? laser?

Does needling really work to raise a low area and stimulate collagen? Does not seem exciting to prick myself 100s of times daily for a year for a 10% improvement.

I also read about dermabrasion but I am certain my issues are well below the surface as having low areas.

I have no idea how to advise you as there is no picture of your issue and you threw the kitchen sink into the post.

First of all scars take time to heal, 10 days ago is not healed yet. If there is some redness this is normal. You get redness after even a peel or tca cross.

You don't want to be using acids while you heal, a good month or two. After that we can reevaluate. Since acid makes a controlled wound, you don't want to wound a wound. You use peels to bring fresh skin out and resuface scars. It's not time for this.

Food will do nothing.

If its hperpigmentation as I suspect. Everyone gets this after acne / accutane/ zits. This is NOT a scar, it's a wound. To learn more how to treat this goto my below signature and the faq link, find the skin section and PIE and PIH.

If your still going to freak out, it's time to see a dermatologist to sooth your fears. They may give you a steroid of antibiotic topical.

Here she is.  I have others but this one is deeper than the picture really shows and because it is in a natural mouth line, it seems pretty tethered.

I have read that subcision is a common repair but not sure that is really right for this.  Maybe an injection later to lift it?

This will require microneedling, most of us use http://derminator.com here. Hyppigementation Treatment Vbeam laser for the color or Quadrostar pro, if you have to do at home treatments vitamin c serum and hydroquinone.

Your biggest improvement will be from vbeam, quadrostar pro, or ipl please look for these at a med spa for the redness.

You may need to do a spot tca peel in a few months.

Subcision will do nothing, filler or injection will do nothing.

Thank you for the reply! I have a few questions

1. When could I reasonably start with micro needling? I have looked into it and seems maybe around a .5mm depth would be about right?
2. Can I get just a single needle somewhere or will a basic sanitized sewing needle do? I was going to just needle the low areas to get that to lift?
3. When could laser treatments be employed?
4. The injury obviously has some tethering right in the center. I have tried to massage the area and it really almost looks worse IMO. Can massaging help or am I doing nothing but irritating the area?

@cobra1

Do not start microneedling, your what 10 days out, it needs at least a month and a half. The body heals up to 3 months sometimes, regardless if it heals funky.

Have you considered just goint to the derm and getting a steroid?

.5mm will do absolutely nothing, it's for product penetration, 1.5mm is the min and you don't want to be doing that while healing.

Drs say 3 months out for laser, but I think you could get vbeam or quadrostar pro now. They only work on pigment, that is all, the red, which is most concerning. It's up to the Dr or med spa if they will do it. If you say 10 days you had it, most likely they will say hell no.

Are you talking about a steroid shot? I do have Clobex, and I did already use it 2x/day for 2 days to get it calmed down. I am careful not to over use that stuff though. It, however, knocks down inflammation ultra fast but leaves a bigger patch of white skin for about a day.

Just curious what your reason would be to use the steroid at this point? the red? Knowing my skin as I do, the red will go away for sure, I am primarily looking only at the depression in the skin. I have not really been in the sun yet this year but the sun is something that seems to be magic to my face. Seems to make it appear smoother, things clear up, etc. I have even went to tanning beds just to catch a few rays and improve my skin.

From what i gathered from burn docs, the steroid does slow down collagen production but also reduces the fiberous healing and usually results in a reduced scar. The body takes more time to make new good skin rather than scar tissue.

@cobra1Please see a doctor at this point (dermatologist). You are talking about steroids so you had to get them from a doctor more than likely.

Steriods take away the red, but laser is much better... Your not concerned with the red.

The red is a indicator of a wound, we do not treat, until the wound has has a opportunity to heal.

Then get subcision and filler, if your concerned about the dent. But again, they will not touch it till several months after, to give it time to heal.

Do not goto tanning beds!!!!! Of course a tan hides all your imperfections, gives you cancer, and ages / makes scars worse.

At this point I would just do silicone sheets (for month(s) to even it out, before deciding on microneedle, or subcision and filler.
