With the whole Syd thing going on and the recent videos/pics he's posted, this is another thing that bothers me. Im not blaming Lim for this by why can't this lady show her scars angled lighting for the after pictures? Not even that, she picked the least revealing light at all, I'm pretty sure none of us would have scars in that light. It just makes me feel iffy about Lim.

Why would you blame a guy for a review posted by one of his patients?

Did you check his response on rate mds in regards to Syds review? It was heavy handed, especially to someone who has spent several thousand dollars with no results.

Remember, we do not know the full story. They're two sides to each story.

I am distrustful of doctors based on past experiences. In reality they know very little and are not scientists. Saying that, Dr Lim could have done a good job but it didn't work out. I didn't see the thread.

Honestly, I dont know why everyone is so triggered by this whole situation.. It really doesnt matter who the doctor is, as of right now the treatment options for acne scarring is very minimal, its like how we used to treat diabetes or migraines 70+ years ago.. we are using treatments that in 40 years we will go oh. dear. god.. people burned/injured their skin to IMPROVE scarring??? What were they thinking?? David Lim is one of the best with the current tools we have, but none of them are a real solution as that does not exist at this point. There is no guarantee on how someone will respond to these type of treatments. It doesnt matter if the best acne scar specialist in the world performs these procedures... they are risky, and it all depends on the patient. People end up with worse scarring all the time from acne scar treatment. Obviously, this girls skin was not a good candidate for the procedure, and sometimes theres no way of knowing that. I dont get why people are so shocked just because its david Lim. Hes highly skilled with scarring, but there will always be people who react poorly to these type of treatments. I mean, we are literally damaging our skin..... I think everyone should consider this before doing any type of treatment.

Seattlegal, you raised some fantastic points. What I think should be compulsory for all laser doctors if that they do a small test area, maybe on the upper arm or somewhere that can easily be covered. Some people just can't handle lasers on their skin, no matter the setting and this is were you hear the horror stories happening to people. Some people, especially people who have been on Accutane, just do not heal well and shouldn't ever be prescribed lasers, no matter the setting.

I have never had laser done before, but I get the impression of the small test patch area doesn't happen very often, if at all. This should be compulsory by law.

I have already mentioned this, but some people's acne scars just will not improve no matter what or how many treatments they do. Then others do. I guess you need to try to find out.

My problem with Dr Lim's latest video saying this patient gets 80% improvement makes vunerable people think everyone can get that. Does he honestly get 70-80% improvement in each patient? Just hearing people's experiences on this board, the majority haven't had anywhere near that kind of success rate. And Syd definitely didn't get 80%

Depends entirely on the scar's severity, area of location & personal healing, imo.
Grade 1-2 scarring (ice picks, superficial rollings, etc) : up to 70-80% on cheeks is possible. Temples/forehead is a different game though.
Grade 3-4 scarring (greater atrophy, fat loss, sharp borders, etc) : anything beyond 30-50% rarely happens. (never even saw a true 50%, thb.)

I agree Coconut. A realistic expectation could be aiming to turn large scars can turn into medium sized scars, medium sized scars can turn into smaller scars, etc.

Everyone has different healing abilities, so that makes things more complicated.

This is precisely why I believe procedures that are "no harm" like fillers and moderate subcision should be attempted first. Spot tests should be compulsory liked someone mentioned for aggressive procedures like lasers / deep resurfacing.

I tried contacting his team with no avail. I was just wondering if anyone here has gotten treatments for him or maybe knows how much he charges for certain stuff. Specifically TCA cross and lasers. I know he does the big laser resurfacing with erbium and that costs around 5000 but does anyone know how much he charges for the other stuff? Thanks

It all depends on insurance and if you live there.

In Australia, for citizens, the insurance policy with Medicare (socialized medicine) enables top line Dermatologist and plastic to let patentclaim 80% of the cost- if they are past their initial threshold.

This sides with 'severe acne scar patient's profile and higher cost treatments. Unlike the US where Aesthetics is fully out of pocket.

You don't need to travel to see great acne scar specialists likeGoh, Chu, Hennisen, Novick, Lim, Rullan for treatment in your country.

No good specialist will give a quote before understanding you, you level of expectation as well as a really accurate assessment of your scar types- this can only be assessed upon examination. The cost can be different for everyone, just like any other trade has to bid on the work. Of course the ones who benefit most are citizens of the country the Dr treats in, ... especially locals who can sometimes get package deals and have better aftercare if there are complications.

Hey

I was treated by Dr Lim.
Prices I were quoted as of one year ago.

Erbium +co2 laser 5500 AUD
Infini 2100 AUD
Filler $1090 per syringe.

Sorry I dont have prices for TCA cross. But last time I saw his website his prices looked more up to date.

Keep in mind it is AUD not USD, 1 AUD is about 0.76 USD, which makes one syringe about 830 US dollars. Erbium + co2 would be about 4200 US dollar, which is about the same as you pay in Europe with any good doctor.

@arte90I agree.

@ObservantMoon
You get what you pay for. This is not price shopping for a appliance or something on Amazon. That is how so many get screwed up faces from treatment. You can get bargains at med spa's not the top 1% of acne scar specialists, ... you will pay for that treatment cost. If you price shop with a specialist, ... they will tell you too bad. They don't care if you go somewhere else. Good doctors get $250-$300+ for 15-30 mins of their time.

Different prices are given to different people depending on what is done, the package price, if you international or a local (See above what @obiwan said - AUS citizens get 80% off treatment cost from their social medicine "Medicare"). Those prices are pretty cheap for Dr. Lim any Dr will charge this and more and know nothing about scars.Filler is expensive, Arte90 is right these are average prices.

Just becauseAbigaiL29 paid that don't expect that is what you will be paying. Dr Lim does not price match, price shop, or compare. He only observes your scars face to face and makes a package plan based on his diagnosis and treatment plan.

What Obi want said is beneficial. Stay local, ... why fly across the world for Lim when there are other acne scar specialists near you.

What alot of you do not realize is (example)... using a CO2 laser for 5 mins on a spot compared to doing a full face resurfacing requires much more work and has different costs, if it's used with a hybrid treatment it may be cheaper... nothing is relative.

I have seen international treatments fail when patients fly around the world, do not have months of time to do treatments, there is not proper aftercare of the procedures, ... everything is rushed, nothing can be done in emergencies, and they spend more on travel accommodations and costs. Less accountability in cheaper tourist medical treatment locations (the types where people get cheap plastic surgeries done). Many countries do not require Board certifications / regulations / safety to the standards of AUS, US , or EU. Get your subcision done by the many Drs we list in the FAQ or schools that teach dermatology also should be able to do this. Then goto a nearby expert injector. Many qualified specialist laser doctors. Buyer beware, research 😉

But yes Dr Lim is worth what he charges, but there is hope for those who want to be treated locally as well.

Remember, if you are in the States, Rullan and Novick are just as good, if not better than Lim (they certainly have more years practicing as a dermatologist), in AsiaProf Goh is the best. Apart from Hennisen in Belgium and Chu in the UK, Europe has a paucity of scar specialist. Lim has quite a full schedule treating AUS patients.

@Obi wanim not denying rullan or novick are great as well but i dont see any before and after pictures from them espically recently that show as much improvment as lim gets so i just want to get treated by the best

See the Specialist you are most comfortable with. Obtain a few options, and make an informed decision not a hasty one (you will be spending thousands with the person). BA is correct in his opinion, there are many other Specialist out there. Dr Limis very blunt in his approach. Some call it blunt, some call it overly truthful, if you want 100% promise of all scars removed, he is not the specialist of choice for you. There are many other Specialist in Australia that are just as good as Lim- in fact he learned most of his skill from Prof. Greg Goodman in Melbourne. Other Specialist include Dr Shawn Richards, in Brisbane, Dr Robert Sinclair is another professional. Dr Manoharan was taught by Lim - but he has limited subcsion skills, often sells packages, and delegates to his nurses, and does not know how to fill. He does however spend a lot of time counselling patients. Like BA and other have said, see many specialist and make your mind up from a real time consult. I wish you well.

If I had the money to burn I would definitely travel the world to see the most famous doctors, as I would for traveling. But whether you see a local doc or someone on the other side of the globe, please become informed about your health and what treatments are currently available. You really should become a "smart patient" before you step in for the consultation. Most patients these days are suckers who, having no knowledge about their health, simply leave all the decision in the hands of their doctors. Herd mentality at its worst.

Dr Davin Lim has posted Youtube videos where he is using 70-100% TCA to treat ice pick scars via Syringe method instead of using a toothpick. What he does is he pours the TCA into ice pick scars with a syringe and this method is very dangerous for a someone doing it at home. I have personally suffered cause of it after watching his videos.

Beware of him. He is spreading very dangerous information to the public.

He is a professional dermotologist doctor mate. Besides nowhere in the video does he encourage individuals to perform the procedure on themselves.

I remember your case, you had burned a part of your nose with tsa. How is your nose now?

He doesnt encourage to do this at home. Not a single dermatologist encourages TCA cross to be done at home anyways. But people do it all the time and these dermos should know that. So they should refrain from spreading such dangerous methods on the internet. Moreover, his method is dangerous in first place. No one pours 100% tca into a scar. I know it now after having experienced that.

Btw , my scar has been much better now. Only a small indent is left.  Plastic surgeon told me to have an excision on it in the coming week, though i am not sure if Excision would be the right procedure on it.

Here is a pic from today.
