Lately craters have been appearing all over my face and it's driving me crazy. I took Accutane which mostly cured my cystic acne, although over a year later I'm getting some acne again but it's mostly mild and not as common as before. I've been using Retin-A for over a year also, but in the last couple months I'm getting a lot of indented crater marks on my skin, without hyperpigmentation and even in spots where there's no acne. It's happening a lot lately, and rapidly. I'm confused.
I also went to a dermatologist who didn't want to put me on Accutane again for my mild acne relapse, since he didn't think the acne was severe enough. I'm considering going to another derm who will hopefully consider putting me on it again since this scarring is occurring so rapidly and ruining my skin and I don't know what else to do.
The only things I can think that can be causing this cratering is the Retin-A itself or possibly sun damage since I've been outside and exposed to the sun a lot more lately. Does unprotected sun exposure cause skin craters? Does anyone have any experience with this?
That's what I thought at first too, but I know for a fact that a lot of my craters are recent and appeared almost out of the blue within the last couple months. New ones have appeared where my skin had no scars at all just a few weeks ago. I just wish I could figure out what's causing so many of them lately, and how to prevent them.
