I can confirm it is CO2 laser resurfacing that will be using for the scaring? Will this be worth having?
Which hospital offered you this?
I got offered it from Salford Royal for free
St Helens (Merseyside). Did you go through with it?
No I didnt. I considered it thoroughly and I wasn't sure if it was worth the risks as I've been on roaccutane before.
I sort of regret not doing it but it's never going to make my scars perfect so again, not sure if it was worth it.
I go away a lot too and tan easily which is a problem
Your skin is similar to mine although I'd say mine is a bit worse so I'd be very interested to see how you get on mate
Did your consultant tell you that CO2 was better for deeper or milder scars? He said because mine were mild that laser wouldn't help that much? Not sure how right that is :/
You got me thinking I am missing something here, but how long does recovery take before you can go away? I imagined you would only have to stay out of the sun until healed? So maybe a couple of months? Obviously, no holidays, but in the UK the sun can just be avoided, and when it can't you can just apply sun block.
Hi didn't tell me anything about deeper or milder scars, he just said that the laser won't remove the scars fully, but it will reduce them a little, with the diagram he drawn to show how much scars would level out, it looked around 50%.
I am happy with any improvement to be honest. Don't be worried about the risks, it is a very common procedure. I'm trying not to read too many reviews as you get horror stories for anything.
I'll defenitly keep you up to date, and you never know, you may decide to go through with it later on in life, you have had the offer once, so there is nothing stopping you from getting the offer again
.
I'm not sure about recovery time but my main issue is I have a tan anyway from going away a lot so they wouldn't do the procedure until it went away which is going to be difficult!!
they showed me same diagram but I have read that CO2 is better for milder scars yet he said the opposite!
I may do it again as my scars bother me everyday but on the other hand I am 32 now and it has never stopped me doing anything in life and I've only ever had a few comments here and there.
Definitely keep me updated because as I say, my skin is similar to yours so could set a benchmark for me!
Cheers mate
Of course, I will update this topic with another photo after recovery.
I'm not sure about Co2 being better for deeper scars? I would have thought it would be better for milder scars too, maybe someone else can confirm?
I also wasn't aware about a tan effecting the treatment, which to be honest has really worried me as I am thinking of having it done next month instead, and actually got quite a tan yesterday, can anyone else confirm if this would effect it? As I would be prepared to put sun block on from now until treatment.
well, tanning after treatment definitely makes the scarring worse. I also hear if you have a tan before treatment, then you would have to wait until the tan went away. Just ask a professional. It's not worth the risk.
Thanks, seems a little daft of my doctor to recommend having it done AFTER my holiday, what does he expect after 2 weeks abroad? I have another consultation before my treatment so I will ask then, for now... sun block!.

My deem said it can cause pigmentation loss if you have it with a tan. Loads of sites on the Internet say the same

Time to exfoliate my face off!! haha. No, seriously, I'm worried, I wanted to change my appointment to next month instead .
An update to this topic.
I have my pre-appintment to discuss the laser treatment on Thursday, Is there any questions that you feel I should ask my derm when I see him, about the treatment?
Also, I know that they will tell me what after care I will need in the appointment, but is there anything else that will help me heal quicker and get the best results possible?
I am thinking of buying collagen tablets to take for the 6 months of the healing progress, I thought this would be a good idea as apparently the laser helps new collagen produce, and I could give it a boost. Whats your views?
We really can't tell if it will help you or not with out a picture of your scarring. If you have indented scarring, c02 wont suffice. You will need to get the scars undermined (medical terminology for subcision).
But if it's your only hope go for it.
Hi,
I did originally have a photo when I created this topic a while ago, but the photo must have expired where I uploaded it too.
Yes, they are indented scars, rolling I believe. I wouldn't say they are to indented though, they just bother me.
The advice I was more looking for, is for recommendations about after care - do you think collagen tablets will increase the healing and I may get better results?
Edit: Ah, the image is still there, see post 1. Yes, Co2 is all I have been offered at the moment, as it is free on the NHS, so I am going to give it a go (better than nothing).
How easy is it to get this on the NHS? Do you have to fight for it or otherwise prove you're depressed to get it? Just wondering if its worth asking.
It depends where you. I was told it was not available under any circumstances at one hospital and offered it pretty much straight away at another.
So many people die because NHS deny life-saving drugs and operations to people who really need it, but they agree to pay for laser resurfacing? That's some messed up priorities. I am glad that I no longer live in UK and my taxes are not used on people's vanity projects.
Ridiculous comment.
BUMP - Anyone think my doctor sounds ok?I forgot to mention, he works at more than 3 places at once, is that a good thing? PHI Clinic London, St Helens Hospital & Liverpool Laser Clninc......
It doesn't matter how many different places they're at mate. They do private clinics but do NHS clinics as they get a pension etc!
