Hey folks,

I am having acne for 1 year and a half now,I am 17and my derm prescribed me Tretinoin. it's a mild acne, no cysts or so.

I have noticed lately that I have a shallow scar on my left cheek, it's still red and it's 1-3 month old (I didn't really notice when it first appeared).

currently I put Tretinoin every night, and moisturizer afterwards.

will tretinoin make it worse? will it help it?

and last important question, can it heal completely after certain amount of time? it is very shallow and my acne isn't very deep (pustules and whiteheads) my mom and dad both have perfect skin without any scars, my uncle and sister as well.

thanks for any help!

well the tretinoin is a retinoid i believe? There are some studies to show that they can help with collagen production, i guess it will help then.

Do you know what kind of scar it is? Ice pick, or box scar?

Over time scars do fill up on there own, if you keep your skin hydrated and stay healthy. Please dont worry!

Seeing as you only have one, treatments like lasers are not the option for you as they can be expensive and sometimes do more harm than good. Also seeing as you are still young, your skin will heal itself within the first year or so.

I use a Glycolic acid facewash and i have noticed an improvement (although slight), and my scars are real deep. Since yours is shallow it might help.

Stay postitive, hope it goes soon.

everyone is different but retin a does give smooth skin and you might experience some breakouts from purging but thats normal if you did your research , also i suggest you use retin a for atleast a month as it will make the scar smoother, redness gone , and appear better looking then you can decide from there

From what I have read ice pick scars are small and deep with steep edge, that's not the case, boxcar are large and deep, so i guess it's neither of those. it's just like a little shallower then the rest of the skin, like a very very shallow dimple. but it's noticeable to me at certain lights especially at night. thanks very much for helping me! I am positive(:

I am using the ratinoid for nearly 6 months now, it shows improvement on the last couple months. thanks!

if it's very shallow, it will most likely fill in sooner or later. (6+months). Keep your heads up!
