scars are either indented or raised and hyperpigmentation is just redness from leftover acne. i think in some people it can show up as brown or purple marks too.

I have a lot of hyperpigmentation then. Does that turn into scars?

No they dont turn into scars. If that is all you have consider yourself very lucky because those will go away in time or you can get an ipl or do chemical peels to get rid of them in a few months.
