Hello guys,
long story short, i've overcome my acne outbreaks, however i'm left with unsightly PIH and acne scars on my cheeks. The acne marks seem to be very stubborn and quite unresponsive to topicals.
I have been looking into alternative treatments such as fraxel/fractional co2 laser, however it is a costly option. Would chemical peels be effective in treating PIH and acne scars? Would really appreciate it if anyone that has undergone laser treatments could share the overall experience with me, as well as the number of sessions required.
Thanks in advance.
For PIH chemical peels would be a less costly, effective, and safer procedure. But unless your scars are very shallow, they won't help with scarring unless they're the really really deep peels, which will still probably only soften and reduce them. For moderate to severe scars, I've heard lasers are your best bet...
peels would help with the pigment problems. However for scars you would need a treatment plan depending on the type of scars. Lasers are the general norm now. I have done roughly 12 sessions of erbium and c02s and each session I would receive around 5%-8% improvement. The down time is usually around 4-5 days with redness persisting. These laser sessions stimulate the rebuilding of lost collagen. lasers can be costly but you can always try to bargain and or do spot treatments on the problem areas only. In addition, you can also finance if you are desperate. Some drs are willing to drop the prices if you pay cash. I have used that to my advantage sometimes. Beware of quick fix laser proclamations by drs. Lasers require time and multiple sessions due to the fact collagen stimulation and growth takes time.
I have also done dermabrasion which yielded roughly 30% improvement. I have mostly boxcar type scars.
I have done a peel in the past but did not help my scars at all. In addition I did microdermabrasion weekly for about a year. I actually got some ok results but it took weeks of sessions to even see something worthwhile. Let me know your thoughts!
