I have some pretty bad scarring and tons of redness on my face. I had a severe breakout last year which resulted in an infection. After i got the infection cleared up i was left with horrible scars. Anyways i've had alot of redness since this whole ordeal but now as my face is starting to clear up i still have tons of redness even where i haven't broke out in weeks. I hate my face its so disgusting to look at I would be so happy if i could just calm the redness down a little at the least.
Currently I'm washing my face in the morning with cerave gentle cleanser then i apply epiduo very mildly just on active pimples and after i use a Cerave moisturizer and a sunscreen if i have to go somewhere. I'm very conscious about going in the sun i usually stay inside all day. At night i wash my face again with the cerave gentle cleanser then apply Differin after i use cerave moisturizer. My dermatologist said its inflamed from the acne but i don't feel like my face is inflamed. I'm going to discuss it further with her at my next appointment. Any thoughts?
If I had your skin I'd try combination light therapy (red, yellow, and infrared) from the led man or something similar to it.
I wouldn't use anything else but a recommended moisturizer.
It eases my redness & spots nicely; I mainly use it for skin texture, reducing inflammation, and also for skin needling.
Congrats on clearing up - one step at a time.
Differin could be your enemy at the moment. What you're suffering from is called erythema. It's a normal reaction to any kind of infection or inflammation in the skin, even long after the infection has passed. Acne is awesome for that, thanks acne. Differin is something I would cut right back on if you can. Its side effects are dyness, erythema, scaliness and stinging so these are not the things you want from your skin at the moment.
If you can, look for a vitamin B product, specifically Niacinamide. It will draw the redness out and help calm/sooth your skin. I use it ever morning and night and I absolutely love it. It won't clog your pores or create breakouts either. In place of the Differin I would look for a Retin-A product. It's also harsh though so I wouldn't use it every night but the beauty is that you don't need to use it every night to reap the ongoing benefits.
Sunscreen everyday is awesome, keep that up! Even if you plan to be indoors all day, wear sunscreen.
Only use luke-warm water on your face. NEVER use cold or hot water. Extreme temperatures make your blood vessels contract and expand which may cause broken capillaries and further redness.
Hi Ms18, First of all; Your putting WAY too many products in your face. Your red skin is, essentially, saying "Please Stop Putting alll these chemicals on me, I'm Burning!"
The Epiduo has Benzoyl Peroxide (When I used BP in the past, my skin was very senstive to the sunlight. So much so, that I would stand in the shade of a tree and still turn bright red. That is because Ultra Violet Radiation reflects of the ground, buildings, etc...)
Secondly, it probably is the Differen. The Differen, is similar to Retin-A, and it does dry out the skin. I probably advise you to limit these two products, further than you currently are, like once a week.
Other than your redness your skin is very clear.
P.s. Sunscreen also has more chemicals that your face absorbs such as: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, etc... These chemicals may further irritate your face thus causing the redness.

I kind of suspect the topicals to but i'm afraid that if i don't use them as often i will start breaking out again
I feel like my skin is raw sometimes its very sensitive. I have an appointment with my derm on Wednesday ill ask her to what she thinks.
Thanks guys

Instead of the Differin, have you considered glycolic and/or salicylic acid based products?
