Hi, I ordered a glycolic acid home peel and I've done it twice (once weekly) and I think it might have helped my red marks - although it could just be time. However, I stopped doing it because the instructions said not to use anything harsh on your skin, including benzoyl peroxide for 24 hr before and after the peel. If I go 48 hours without using benzoyl peroxide I break out! So I stopped doing the peels. But now I'm wondering if the instructions were over-cautious? So I have two questions:
1) If you use glycolic acid peels, do you stop bp for a while before and after and if so for how long?
2) What is the risk of not stopping the bp? I don't mind if it is just irritation and dryness, but I don't want it to cause more hyperpigmentation if that is a risk? (I have pale skin so my marks are red rather than dark)
I'd be very grateful for any help here!
My peel instructions say to avoid BP/other such ingredients for 24 hours...but my peel is 30% lactic and alcohol free so may be less irritating than yours.
I don't think stopping BP will cause hyper-pigmentation but I think your skin is more sensitive/weaker after a peel so I wouldn't use such a harsh ingredient immediately, a 24 hour break would be better than no break.
Also I think using an AHA and BP every night is very harsh on the skin looking at your signature but if it works for you that's fine.
