When I tried needling on one scar, I used thin 0.2mm diabetic lancets purchased online. They were called One Touch Comfort and they're shaped like a needle and not like a thick blade (some people here have warned against using lancets because they're supposedly shaped like a blade and could cause additional damage). I've had other diabetic lancets before and they were shaped like a regular needle as well. You could probably find something similar very easily. I don't think most lancets necessarily have that problem of being shaped like a blade, but you should however check before using them!

The problem with my lancets was that they were 4mm long, which was too long for me. Even if I didn't insert the whole lancet in my skin, I was afraid of going in too deep and causing damage. I solved the problem by attaching a piece of 2mm thick silicone sheet (CicaCare) that I happened to have through the lancet when needling. I wouldn't really know how else to adjust the length though. I've heard of a "toothpick method", but haven't actually seen any instructions and I don't quite get how it works. Sarah Vaughter used to have instructions for it on owndoc.com, but since she started selling her own needles, she removed them (which I find quite infuriating).

The suction pump Sarah Vaughter sells is actually a venom suction pump for snake and scorpion bites and such. You might be able to find something very similar that you can buy online, if you search for a venom pump. Some people have used different methods with vacuumers (?), but I haven't really looked into these as I'm not even doing any suctioning myself.

Hope this helps! Please keep us posted about your results with needling. Good luck.

Just occurred to me that if you don't have luck finding a venom suction pump, a wine pump or even a breast pump might do. I'm not sure how similar they are to a venom pump, but will probably do the trick as well.

I purchased owndoc's pump but I prefer this one that I purchased from eBay:

http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=110870437191&index=3&nav=SEARCH&nid=09303075669

I like that owndoc's kit has a very small cup in their pump set but the pump's suction did not match the one above. I find that the cups are interchangeable so I'm happy now :)

If that does not open for you search for "6 Cups Medical Chinese Vacuum Body Cupping Massage Therapy Healthy Suction Set" on eBay and you will find the item :)

Hello, what exactly is a lancet needle and what additional damage could a lancet cause?

Are any of these two a lancet needle?

Not that I am aware of. I applied the suction device to my left and right cheeks and did about two or three passes on each cheek in the morning and in the evening for about two weeks if I remember correctly.

I don't know if that is a lancet, but if it is, it's not the type you should use. What you're looking for are diabetic lancets (33g) that basically look like tiny thin needles.

My reasoning goes that one shouldn't use anything too thick, since the idea is to cause just enough damage that would activate the healing process and in the end create more collagen that would fill in or soften the scar. But if you go in too deep (deeper than 2.5mm) or use too thick a needle, it could damage the skin too much, to the point that the scar would just end up looking worse.

Owndoc.com needles are a safe choice, if you have trouble finding lancets that would be suitable.
