I have seen a dermatologist & he suggested i should see a plastic surgeon or go & see laser care (skn clinic). I've spoke to a few people on this forum & was told that fractional laser in their opinion was not good or strong enough to decrease the appearance of acne scars.

I went to see skn clinics which i thought were highly recommended but now i have worries & doubts sad.png My next plan is to see a few plastics surgeons & get advice but if its comes to skn clinics treating my acne scars are they good or bad? They have been seen on a program called embarrassing bodies on channel 4. Website >>> [Removed]

Also need info on which lasers or which treatments are good for dark skin?

I think darker skin types are harder to treat with lasers due to the increased risk of unwanted pigmentation issues. If I had dark skin I would look at every other scar treatment option first before thinking about having lasers done.

If you don't mind my asking, what kind of scarring do you have? Do you still have any active acne? Have you tried anything to treat your scars in the past?

I don't have active acne i don't think...i get a few spots & blackheads every now & then but i am happy that most of my active acne has gone. I now have moderate ice-pick scars. I have not done anything to treat my scars...I need advice on if it's best to have laser treatment or see a plastic surgeons/dermatologist/doctors on other options as I've heard laser treatment is difficult to reduce the appearance of acne/ice pick scars on dark skin asians :(

Best Advice: Do nothing. You gonna do more damage and then you'll really get depressed. Wait for a scar cure don't waste your time on these.. 'Treatments'.

On the same boat.

That's not the best advice. You have no idea if the original poster is going to make things worse. I highly doubt there will ever be a "cure" for acne scars and if that's what you're waiting around for then prepare to be disappointed. I sure as heck am not going to wait around in the shadows for some cure in the sky.

Ice-pick scars are one of the harder types to treat but don't let that discourage you! I really, really think that rushing into laser may not be the best option for you. I say this because in all my research ice-pick scars don't seem to respond that favourably to lasers. Plus for you there is the added risk of pigmentation issues. I don't have ice-pick scars so I'm sorry I can't give you any first hand opinion the treatments I've had for this type of scarring.

What I can tell you is that there are other methods out there to help with ice-pick scarring and I would personally look into these before going to the lasers. smile.png Have you seen this material before? It may help you plan your next step: http://www.scribd.co.../Acne-and-Scars

Also, yes, do see a doctor or an esthetician. I have an esthetician currently looking after me for my Dermaroller treatments and she is brilliant!

I am living, breathing proof that acne treatments work. You just need to find the right methodology. For me this was Fraxel Re:Store, the Dermaroller, and excellent skin care. Every story is different and no two skin-types will react in the same way. You just have to keep fighting this and keep researching what's out there!

Have you guys heard of or tried erbium lasers? I heard they have less risk for dark skin and may help with mild scarring?

Don't be discouraged. There are laser options for darker skin. Unfortunately they don't necessarily teach docs dark skin care in med school.

Do your research. Find a doctor that specializes in skin of color. And do mild peels (any alpha or beta hydroxy acids) in the meantime.
