Thanks, everyone! I believe that subcision is technically meant to treat rolling scars and not boxcar, but I have noticed some improvement with subcision. I think boxcar are usually treated with punch float/punch elevation.
I think subcision is less scary than lasers. Lasers heat up the dermis and can cause damage.
So here is an update. It's been about four months since my second subcision.
Overall, my scarring has noticeably improved. It usually doesn't show up on camera anymore, and I can't see the deepest scars when I look in the mirror standing several feet away (I guess that can give you an idea how bad my scarring was before I got the subcision.)
The two scars that responded the least are, interestingly enough, a couple of my oldest scars, and I didn't hear popping noises when the doctor did the subcision. I heard that most around my chin, where the scarring was recent. The scarring around my chin has responded the best to subcision.
The scars that also seemed to respond the least were ones that I did not suction in the first week after this second subcision.
I think my deepest scars may also have fat loss. I'm going to try dermarolling and hopefully that will help, but if I don't see any improvement over the next few months, I'm going to try a more invasive procedure to replace the fat loss.
When I look up close in the mirror, my skin doesn't look smooth. I still have ice pick scarring. I may need to get repeated laser treatments for my skin to start looking normal.
So this is a journey. I don't regret the subcisions and think they really helped, but I may need to also try something more invasive.
Thank you so much for this update. This is very timely for me as my subcision is Monday for scars around my chin. I was particularly scared about doing it in this area and this gives me a lot of hope. I'm so happy for you and wish you the best in continued improvement. How long until you were presentable after each subcision? I have a commitment 12 days after...
Yeah, my deepest scar around my chin has pretty much disappeared. I was concerned because it seemed to reappear about a month after my second subcision, but has since filled in. Keep in mind that I think this is because there was no correlating fat loss. I heard the popping/cracking noise of the tethered scars getting broken up around my chin, but not around my cheeks.
I was presentable within a couple of days after this second subcision. I saw some bruising for a while, but I could easily cover it up with makeup. The first one took at least five days to heal, but I think it's because I also had peels.
