Ever since I had laser damage, I love gotten some ice pick scars. I was wondering what treatment I should do besides tca cross? Excision, maybe? I'm looking for a permanent solution and if you guys know of any great doctors in the OC area, that would be awesome. I'm trying to figure out how to post pics here. I have a few.
Hey Homairam!
Can you give us a bit more background? When you say laser damage what does that mean exactly? Ice-pick scars usually form after acne or chicken pox etc, I haven't heard about them forming as a result of a laser.
Also, how severe do you rate your scars? Are they shallow/superficial or deeper where they cast shadows? And, what is your skin tone?
Everyone is looking for a permanent solution when it comes to our scarring but the reality is that perfection is near impossible. There really is no such thing as perfect skin anyway. Even those with "flawless" skin are no match for age, genetics and the environment. So it's important to be realistic when it comes to results from treatments. Another thing to remember is that results take a lot of patience and hard work. You will need multiple treatments and possibly a combination of different treatment options.
Typically, ice-pick scarring is harder to treat than rolling or box-car scarring. TCA cross is considered a good option as it can be tailored to suit the severity of your scarring as well as your skin tone. Micro excision is an option but for more severe/deep scars. There is also dermabrasion and chemical peels and skin needling (CIT).
I don't have ice-pick scars though so I can't speak from experience. I know there are others on these boards that could give you more information.
EDIT: I almost forgot! Research is your best tool! Take a look at this fantastic publication for more information on TCA cross, excision and more: http://www.scribd.com/doc/37108855/Acne-and-Scars
