How Do You Do It?

How do you find a derm or surgeon to perform acne scar treatments?

Specifically, laser treatments.

I've searched my area and there are maybe 1 or 2 derms that even mention acne scarring on their websites.

The rest are concerned with aging, wrinkles, sagging skin, etc.

For those of you that have had fractional CO2 laser treatment or consultations, is it important the doctor specializes in acne scarring?

I'm scared to go to a doctor that uses the laser for wrinkles and will not know how to best use the machine for scarring.

Look on http://www.realself.com/find for doctors. On the righthand corner and side of the page you'll find several dermatologists, surgeons and specialists with viewer ratings.

Thanks, Michelle Reece.

I do know about realself. What I mean is that, even the doctors on realself in my area do not treat "acne scarring".

All of their websites list skin resurfacing or rejuvenation.

I guess what I'm saying is I don't feel these cosmetic dermatologists and plastic surgeons are competent with treating acne scars.

Is it best to go to a specialist or are has it been anyone's experience that these types of doctors are good with scarring, they just don't list it.

You're welcome, dragonn!

Reducing acne scars falls under a common cosmetic concern, which cosmetic dermatologists and plastic surgeons would treat. Ablative and non-ablative lasers would inherently help acne scarring by increasing collagen production. But yes, go to a professional with years of experience and training for lasers and do not under any circumstances go to a medispa. Look at their credientals and how patients thought about them. Don't be afraid to write them a letter and meet them in person and ask questions and voice your concerns.
