How Bad Is It? (Dont Know What To Do)

I have these raised lesion bumps on my skin (don't know if it is all from acne, or some just randomly spawned), but i want to literally have all of these cut out (excised) and ill take a scar in its place. Would such a procedure be possible?? I am trying to email these photos to some plastic surgeons to get an opinion as well.

Here are the photos:

It doesn't look bad to me at all, fairly unnoticeable. Unless you can find a plastic surgeon who can guarantee very minimal scarring from excision (which I think could be done, yes), I don't think it's worth it. Your skin looks nice overall.

But since it's obviously bothering you, please do get some opinions and find out if excision would be better than just leaving them be. You certainly can just leave them be in my opinion. And in case they are hypertrophic scarring (as opposed to sebaceous hyperplasia), you might want to try silicone sheets since those at least could not make the situation any worse. I've heard of cauterization(?) too on this forum, but I haven't looked into it.

ive already tried cauterization and silicone gel (but the gel only for like 3 months). Thanks for your suggestions

The most noticeable bump was a big pimple before it turned into that.

Then it must be the same thing that I have on my nose, which also is the result of a pimple. I guess it's hypertrophic scarring? I'm now trying this silicone sheet on it, but it's too early to say if it works, especially since I haven't been using it that actively. My 'bump' doesn't bother me nowhere near as much as my hypotrophic scarring, since it mostly looks like a skin-coloured small mole or active acne rather than a scar. Although I would like to get rid of it eventually.

Shame silicone didn't seem to work for you. :/ I hope you find something that helps! Keep us posted.

where is your hypertrophic scarring located?

I dont even know if these things can be excised, since they seem to be a "part of the skin, and not just above it, if that makes sense?

It's right on top of my nose, on the left side. it's fairly flat, so it doesn't stand out too much except in certain lighting.

I don't see why it couldn't be excised? As I understand with excisions, the plastic surgeon cuts off the skin where the scar is and then stitches it up which creates a new, better-looking scar. So you would be taking out all of it and not just the top layer.

I don't often suggest regular CO2 but it might be just the thing for you. Consult several plastic surgeons and get their opinion.

Co2 would work on these things? I don't know much about lasers, but wouldn't that cause pigment issues since I am of dark skin tone?

Dudley, what is your opinion on using excision for my bumps?

I am no doctor but the reason I thought of CO2 is because of your bumps. Dermabrasion is also a consideration. I have never had excision, but I fail to see the logic of using it for your condition. I would consult several plastic surgeons considering pigmentation issues and wether CO2 or dermabrasion is the best treatment for you. With my limited knowledge it would seem that dermabrasion would yield the smoothest results. Dealing with bumps is much different than dealing with depressed scars. If you were a piece of wood it would make more sence to sand you down than attack the bumps from the underneath. The skin is not a piece of wood so I don't know if my theory holds water.

You make a valid point Dudley. The logic behind excising is that I want those bumps "cut out" and then stitched back with a linear scar.

I don't think dermabrasion is worth it for me. It looks way too invasive

I am planning on seeing dr.persky

Dr Persky is well versed in lasers, see what he thinks. You may also want to post your question on RealSelf http://www.realself.com/ , MakeMeHeal http://www.makemeheal.com/mmh/home.do and Dr Yang gives excellent specific responses http://messageboards.makemeheal.com/george-yang-doctor/

my personal opinion... man I'd leave that alone and look for a natural cure. It's hardly noticeable (to me anyways). You have good skin. But like others have already stated, if it's REALLY bothering you (which apparently it is since your looking into options) then I guess a doctor visit might be in order. Get several professional opinions before you let anyone start cutting on your face.

Yea, most of it doesnt bother me, the only part that bothers me is one or two raised bumps.

I found this by accident today, which might be of interest to you. Based on this thread, I think you should look into Smoothbeam laser. I don't know anything about it, but some people seem to have benefited from it.
