sup man i just tried calling you now but no answersorry i missed ur call earlier the phone is being a beyotch - neway i just wanted to ask you how many times you did the cleaning after day 4 - i've only done it once today and i really don't feel the need to do it, i just feel like i should before i go to bed ... i'm not really dripping that badly, the vaseline is just on my face and it stays there ... i have notices that there are lighter/white areas developing in patches around my face since i did the cleaning ... did you find this as well?
I called doctor Y's office from Iraq at 3 eastern time and got a bad vibe from the lady answering the phone. She put me on hold once and then I told her I was in the dessert and she put me on hold again. Then I asked if I could just do my checks and she said no 4900 for the whole face. I don't know whats up with this.I wanted to talk to the doc but I just didn't like her attitude I don't know what it was.
I did it three times, even though I didn't always feel like I needed it. I did do it just before bed each night too. I did it 3 times a day, until day 7 when I stopped doing it. I think I did it once or twice on day 7. The vaseline never dripped for me. I also had teh white areas develop after cleaning.
Please eat, you need to eat!!! I ate EVERYTHING, even the night the dermabrasion was done, chinese food at that. I was so hungry, I didn't care. I contiued to eat any and all solid foods the days after with the bandages on. Cassandra told me that I could, but that I might need to cut it into little pieces. However, I didn't cut it up, I kinda just shoved food in my mouth the best I could, then cleaned around my mouth with a cotton swab afterwards.
Portlandboy,
Happy to hear things are going so well for you
Shade,
Make sure you eat lots of protein and vitamin C, I think it will give you the best results. My scars that were punched look really good, so hopefully you will come out exceptionally great
Drewboy,
Yes, my cheeks are very pink, but it kind of looks like I funked up putting on my blush. It will likely be months before the pink goes away, so maybe try a tinted moisturizer or a sheer makeup with a green tint. Green hides pink How are you looking?
Hi everybody. My first post here. I discovered this forum a few weeks ago and have been lurking around. Time to get out the woods and share some of my experiences.
I had dermabrasion with Dr. Yarborough 17 years ago! I only had one but I remember him saying that I would need more than one for optimal results. I don't remember doing the shaving cream and all that stuff back then. My most vivid memory from the procedure is when he put the clear faceshield on and started to abrade my face, I saw thin pieces of skin on his faceshield flying all over the place.
I had very severe cystic acne in my teens. Imagine the size of a pecan and cut it in half lengthwise. Then stick that on your face in about five or six different places and that's how big my cysts were. I had the infamous honor of having the worst acne my dermatologist had ever seen in his 20 years of practice. Accutane was my miracle drug and cured me in one cycle where I went up to 80 mg / dose. Have not had a cyst that big since! I'm so glad for Accutane as it was only approved a couple of years before I went on it (I think).
I'm in my mid 30's now. In the past couple of years I've had 4 subcisions, 5 cooltouch treatments, and a laser minipeel. Unfortunately, I'm still scarred up pretty bad; but I'm not as caved in as I was on my cheeks. Perhaps a 40 percent improvement with the procedures in the past couple of years. Unfortunately, I have come to realize that acne scarring is a long and difficulty condition to eradicate.
I think it is great how you all support each other on this forum and share information and pictures. I'm very interested in Portlandboy and Leafsfans results because I think one more dermabrasion may be all that I need. I have a combination of rolling and sunken scars on the cheeks all the way down to the chin area. The punch floats must be something new because I don't recall Dr. Yarborough offering that to me back then.
Anyhow, I think I'm on the right track with the subcisions that I have had. The scars are still there but have been elevated. The dermabrasion to finish it off would be very nice. I did it once with Dr. Y, I think I can easily do it again. He is a great Dr. no doubt.

I am eating everything now today is awesome since that mask came off, now i just gotta deal with the cleaning. Sadly i can still see some rolling scars on my cheeks where the floats were done, i expected to see a perfectly smooth face for the first few days. Doesn't really matter, I'm just looking forward to seeing the final product months from now. As disheartening as the 10% improvement Kiki saw would be, I'd say it was still worth it because at least I did something that actually worked!

Sorry bout not getting back to you on time, I guess I'd rather not wake you right now since you're asleep but i got a billion questions for ya! Lol. Anyway hit me back if you can tomorrow morning or something before you leave. I just got done with my second cleaning of the day, a lot more crust came off but I'm worried about not being too rough with yellow/brown crust that is stuck to the bloody crust. Some areas of my cheeks are completely smooth and pink with little red puddles which could be floats or active acne that was dermabraded over. In any case it's too early to tell so I just have to wait a few more days. I found that instead of splashing water after rubbing the shaving cream, the best method to remove it along with the crust is to wipe downwards with a wet gauze without folding it, letting the fibers trap and lift up the loose crust and yellow ooze which seems minimal at this stage.
I must say with my dark brown skintone a pink face looks absolutely ridiculous. I am going to keep a close watch on hyperpigmentation and get that cream ASAP if anything occurs.
Can someone tell me when that dark peel that he used under our eyes comes off?
ok, here's something realllllllly weird that happened that I forgot to mention and ask the fellas about
And before I begin, NO, I'm not crazy
This morning after I shaved, I felt something coarse and prickly on my chin. When I examined closer, I noticed a WHITE hair sticking out which was nearly a 1/2" long. It was white and very coarse. It had the consitency of a finger nail (that tough) but it was clearly a hair as I plucked it out and saw the folicle base/root. I was amazed by this. Do you think the dermabrasion re-programmed that hair or something? I've never had a white hair on my face before or anything that coarse/hard to the touch. Very odd. I wonder if it will return. It was like a retarded hair basically.

what was the peroxide for? as for eating, i don't know how you were able to do that I could barely fit a spoon in my mouth. maybe i just didnt try hard enoughanyway my mask finally came off just a little while ago so im enjoying some fried rice right now. my face stings a little but it's not too bad, and I feel like when I eat i'm stretching my really really tight new skin!

Hey Shade,
Back in Maine now. I went through a series of cancellations and delays yesterday not to mention some airport sprinting. All airlines suck basically. I flew United. Get this, United calls me at like 8am to tell me that they were nice enough to cancel my 2:21pm flight out of New Orleans but they re-booked me on a 5:43PM flight. I thought, this isn't all that bad, and I still should be home in time for the New Year's party I was going to (scheduled to arrive back in Portland at 11:14pm). Well, I get to the airport like 1 hour and 20 min early ... plenty enough time I thought (this is PLENTY of time if I would have been flying Delta as I normally do), anyway, After waiting like 20-30 minutes in a line of maybe 9 people I start my check in process. I had just been speaking with some people in front of me who realized they were going to miss their 5:20 flight out as it's now like 5:00pm. I then tell them that there is a 5:43pm flight that I'm on, and maybe they could get on that one. Come to find out as I get up to the customer service rep that I'm also on the 5:20pm flight, not 5:43pm as the recorded message told me and I'm also not going to make my plane. I throw a small fit and the lady throws late check-in stickers on our luggage and says lets go (to both me and the two ladies in front of me and their two children). SO we proceed to SPRINT through the New Orleans airport, cutting right through the security line of people which had to be like 200 people. I felt like a terrorist or something, people were staring at us like we were. Ran down the concourse and we jumped on the plane. 1 minute later we were leaving. Land in Washington Dulles only to find out they did the same damn thing with the connecting flight, shortened it's departure time. I had 10-15 minutes to run 36 gates. Well I made it, and so did my luggage so I have to give them props for that cause I don't know how they did that. All I could think the whole time was where Dr. Y underlined "NO STRENUOUS ACTIVITY FOR 1 MONTH". You should have seen how red I was from running with my carry-on that weighs in at like 50 lbs. Sorry I didn't get back with ya yesterday, it was kinda hell as you can tell (plus seeing all my family and all that one last time).
How are you healing up? Was day 5 dramatic for you in terms of healing also?

Hi,
Today is my 13th day, and my face is still pretty red/pink but it is definitely ligter than a few days ago. The color on my forehead is doing much better compared to the rest of my face I think because Dr. Y didn't go as deep there. I'm pretty much done w/ the peeling except a few stubborn ones. My face still itch a bit especially my left jaw area. So far, some of minor scars are completely gone, and I still see some old scars scatter around my cheeks, but the spot which bothers me the most are definitely still there (it's actually 3 of them which were punched out by Dr Y, because they're so close together it looks like a bigger spot and more obvious than just a single one, and it's sitting right on my cheek), still I think it's much improved than before. I guess I will need a second derm (a spot one) to get further improvement. Of course, now it's still early to say. I will wait at least 6 months to make that decision. Right now, my nose started to get some blackheads, don't know if I should squeeze it out. I also have two breakouts so far and don't know how to deal w/ it, any ideas? I'm also try to search online to see if there're any products out there (besides the make-up) which will help speed up the redness fade faster. So far I find Vit K could be good, any suggestions? Best wishes, and Happy New Year!!

dont sweat it im just glad you made it back in one piece. as for my progress, today is day 6 and I'm feeling so-so. my skin is also returning to its old state, looks NOTHING as smooth as it did the day the bandages came off. i can see minor scarring returning on my cheeks and my temples are getting a little wavy, unline the day the bandages were removed my temples were so smooth and so were my cheeks. the skin is not pink all over now, some areas are darker than others but overall id say its not pink anymore but with the vaseline on almost looks orangish pink. the horizontal wrinkles i had on my forehead seem to be trying to reaapear but well see, its just been 6 days.
id have to agree, most of the improvement i will have seen later on will be from the punch floats, what's bothering me is right now i can actually see where my old scars were even if they are now level with the skin b/c it's not the same color! these areas appear darker as they did after punch floats. i also have various white-puss filled zits scattered around my face (has to be b/c of the vaseline) and the top part of my nost is still very crusty like it hasnt healed with the rest of my face. this can be said about my jawline too, which seems to crust the most and is still red like it has scabs from wounds on it.
ill go in for a followup on tuesday, hopefully they can tell me what the deal is. still yet, just glad it's over with i just want my normal skin color to return and get on with life enough with this dermabrasion nonsense
one think id like to say is i have yet to drip any vaseline. i don't know why this is, but i find that i really only need to clean myself twice a day even though i do it three times. once when i wake up i use the shaving cream, wipe off then shower and repeat that before i go to bed. it's not really necessary inbetween but i guess ill just keep doing that. some crust refuses to come off no matter how many times ive cleaned it so i guess itll still be there on tuesday i wonder if its necessary for it to come off to let new fresh skin grow in its place.
A note to everyone:You guys should all be taking before and after pictures to chart your progress.AA As much as I have stared in the mirror at myself, stretched my skin, tried to count my scars, etc... PRIOR to the dermabrasion, I can't really remember what I looked like before.AA I just know things are much better.AA I did have Dr. Y take several pictures both prior to punch floats and prior to dermabrasion and everywhere in between.AA I hope to get these back when they are able and I can compare them closely and post them. Your mind can play tricks on you so take pics!
Hello Everyone!
I have been reading the forums for awhile now and this is my first posting. I am so glad to see so many people supportive of each other. I have scarring from both acne and trauma as a child and have been seriously considering dermabrasion. I've tried microdermabrasion a few years ago, and it was such a waste of money. I am 24 and most of my acne has cleared up after seeing a good dermatologist and being on Retin-A for the past year.
I am now ready to go ahead with the dermabrasion procedure and it lookes like Dr. Y is the best dermabrasionist in the country. For those of you who have had dermabrasion with Dr. Y, I have a few questions:
1. For the guys, in regards to post-procedure care, did any of you wear makeup to cover the redness in the months that followed dermabrasion? Does this look natural? Was it noticeable? I am asian, and have medium brown skin and am worried about being "pink" for so many months.
2. I'm also very worried about pigmentation problems after dermabrasion, but it sounds like this is rare problem. Have any of you experienced hypopigmentation of hyperpigmentation?
3. I don't have any family or friends to stay with in New Orleans, so I will have to get a hotel if I choose to do the procedure with Dr. Y. Which hotels did you stay when you were in New Orleans? How close were they to the office? And what were the approximate costs?
4. What was the phone consultation like with Dr. Y? I am in San Francisco, so I will not be able to go in for an in-person consultation. I am curious about how he determines if one is a good candidate for dermabrasion without actually seeing someone.
Sorry for all the questions! Thanks everyone!
