Just thought I'd post the following links Aaaoe for what it's worth. This info does absolutely nothing to dissuade me, personally, from having dermabrasion with Dr. Y. What baffles me, though, is what anyone could possibly sue him for? Worsening their scars? I mean, that risk should be well known to anyone contemplating such a procedure. As with any cosmetic surgery, don't you have to sign waiver forms or something to, essentially, exonerate the doc should this occur? Anyhow, I guess this is just further testament (or hearsay, depending upon how you look at it) that dermabrasion should not be jumped into lightly and that things could go wrong (albeit at a lower probability) even with a brilliant doctor such as Dr. Y.

thanks for the post confettied- you brought up a good point about law suits though. i think lots of patients are 'sue happy' and maybe what they were unhappy about was hyperpigmentation or soemthing, so they just took advantage of it, an tried to get money out of it. and also.. hes done over 10,000 dermabrasions, an who knows.. when he was just getting started in it maybe soemones skin did get a little worse..reading that post did make me think about things too.. but i just feel that dr y is super talented, and trustworthy for scar treatment.
Confettied while I am sure everyone appreciates the link, personally I think that those posters could be anyone and not entirely credible.
The reason I say this is, is I did a paid search on Doctor Y before travelling From Sydney and have a report here in my hands that shows there has never been any action against him in 45 years both on a State and Federal level. I found that post interesting from that person whose derm made the person swear to strict confidence and was using laser to correct some scars thought created via a dermabrasion. I have had laser ($5,000 down the drain and six months of downtime) and I will say to the day I die that is does nothing for scars and any derm who does use it for scarring is the one I wouldn't be listening to.
Also for those interested my skin continues to get better each day and is so much better. If I could use make up every day like the girls you would hardly even know I had scars!!! (its hard to let go ) And by the way I have had no problems from this procedure and certainly no extra scarring. I even think I look a few years younger!

Hey John,
Yes, I totally agree with you that the referenced posters may not be reliable Å hence my digs like "for what it's worth" and "hearsay." Heck, they could even be other doctors or their staff attempting to derail business from Dr. Y. I'd hate to think any doctors would resort to that, but ya never know.
I'm delighted that you and Kiki spoke up about your background checks on Dr. Y. Even if there had been something to report, my faith in Dr. Y's ability is unwavering. As Sadcaroline mentioned, our society is nuts about suing for any and everything. And, as they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words" Å Thanks to posters like Misty, Kiki, Poe et al, we can see for ourselves just how remarkable Dr. Y is. Personally, I am thrilled about having him perform my dermabrasion in December.
Anyhow, congratulations on your skin's progress John! That's terrific news! You know, you might want to look into Dermablend. I know of several men who apply it. It's not makeup, per se Å sorta an "androgynous" product.

Hi guys,
I'm planning to have dermabrasion in February, and I'd like to take 3 to 4 weeks off of work. I'm not sure how to handle asking for time off. For those of you who have had or are planning to have dermabrasion soon, could you give me some advice on the following things?
1. I'm embarassed to talk to anyone about my scars other than my mom and my best friend. Do I have to tell my boss exactly what I'm having done, or did most people just say they're having surgery?
2. Do you think it's okay to use sick leave, since technically this is a "cosmetic" procedure? I work for the federal government, and I think they're pretty generous/lax about how you use your leave, but I'm unsure whether it is inappropriate to ask to use sick leave for this.
3. Did you ask your boss first when would be a good time to take the time off, or just schedule the surgery and then say, "look I'm having this done; I'll be gone during this time"?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
I agree, I would totally prefer to use vacation time and keep it totally secret. Problem is, I don't have enough vacation, and it'll take me forever to build up that much time. So, I'm hoping I can use sick leave, but then do I have to tell my boss what I'm using it for? Probably so.
While this is a very personal issue, I didn't mind telling my boss. Honesty is the best policy. Plus, I won't have to be worried or stressed if my redness doesnt fade by the time I got back. I composed an email, ASKING for the requested time off. I indicated how important this was for me and how long I had been wanting it. I also went into detail of urgency with the Doctor being 70 years old and nearing retirement. I also gave them the heads up that when I do return, I may look different (like a bad sunburn) is how I put it. Their reaction was mixed, but overall positive. I don't care if people think I'm vain. I'm not. I just want to live and not have to constantly worry about my scarring when I'm outside my house. For me this was an easy decision. I'd rather correct my scarring and lose my job vs. keep my job with my scarring. I'm simply not living fully or happily until I fix this. I come first. My employer comes second. I used to not think this way but this has gone on long enough.
Yeah, I wish I could use sick leave, but I'm just not willing to disclose what's going on. I think you probably will have to give a reason for taking it, though you might be able to make something up. Be creative I will probably return with a slightly red face, since I'm only taking a week or so off, so I will have to explain that. I think I will just say "sunburn", and leave it at that. It might not be believable, but at least it will close the conversation.
As for me, I told my boss about my plans to have dermabrasion next year in March/April. She completely understands as I have told her about my insecurities about my skin. We have our talks about our skin and I have told her about Dr. Y.
As this point in my life, I don't care who knows or if people think I am vain.
Sometimes it is actually kind of nice talking to people about it instead of keeping it all to myself. About 5 people know that I want to have it done.
I am so anxious to have to done and if I could, I would get it done now.
Nobody but you gals/guys knows about my plan for dermabrasion. I have 4 weeks vacation planned out for next year. Hopefully that would be enough time for the redness to fade. I can always use the sunburn excuse. If that doesnAaat stop the gossip I can always sit on them. At 6 feet tall and 200 lb, I can be very frightening.
Heya Portlandboy,
You think YOU'RE crazy?! As a New Orleanian, I'm more concerned about Dr. Y's office being wiped out by Hurricane Ivan, than I am about my OWN house! Of course, perhaps being a renter has something to do with it - LOL. Should Ivan strike New Orleans, the city would have to re-dubbed Atlantis.
About my dates, they highly coincide with yours. Initially, I was scheduled for punch floats (and possibly more) on Nov 22nd, but bumped it up a few days earlier Å not that it'll make much difference, unfortunately. I have to give a graded presentation on Dec 1st in front of about 50 doctors and other public health researchers. I am a super slow healer too, so knowing my rotten luck, I'll still be all bandaged up and scarred from the procedure(s). Everyone will def know I had something done. And absolutely no skirting around the matter either. Anyhow, I am one gutsy mama Å LOL. To heck with what anyone thinks. Besides, they'll all probably forget about me in a week or two afterwards (or perhaps a decade Å ha). With regard to my dermabrasion, it's scheduled for Dec 21st. I guess then you'll be Dr. Y's first "victim" of the week.
Just a belated comment about Dr. Y and lawsuits....keep in mind that there are other Dr. Yarborough's in Louisiana...Michael Y in Metairie, LA; Morgan in Shreveport, LA....I also did not find any disciplinary action against JOHN Y, perhaps these lawsuits are for one of the other doctors practicing in that state.
Hey Kiki, I know you had punch floats, and spoke of having a couple of boxcar and angular scars remaining post dermabrasion...did you have any shallow saucer scars prior to dermabrasion? It just seemed to me that your scars were very limited to a specific area, and I'm wondering if your skin had a real smooth surface before derm...

What constitutes a slow healer?
I think I might be but not sure what determines it. For example, when I get a bad zit it usually lasts a good while after its "dead". The dark red/purplish color stays for quite a while, sometimes weeks. Is this a slow healer?
When I cut myself on my hand, its usually healed up in like a week.
How does one gauge this?
Hey there --- this is a message for the guys. If you are prepared to use Dermablend there is no need to tell anyone why you are going. Noone will even know you had it done after about two a half weeks by using the make up.
Of course if you wanted to take sick leave you would have to tell your employer but I decided not to. Plus Doctor Yarborough's office has someone trained in using dermablend and if requested they could show you how to use it so it is undetectable. I didn't tell anyone I was having this done due to past experiences ie the laser of "hey you went through all that and your face looks exactly the same", so the only people that knew were my mother, sister (she told me she had to tell her husband as she couldn't keep secrets from him!) Kiki and Leopolda and that's it.
PS Craig there definitely has been a tightening of the skin and I can feel it remodelling
