I used a small hand-held Orec Vacuum sweeper around day three post-subcision.

Because the suction power was so strong, I cupped my left hand around the nozzle to reduce the suctioning power and did at least two passes a day on my face for approximately two weeks.

It seemed to prolong the bruising and swelling. However, it was the most effective of the four subcision treatments that I had.

If you're going to have CO2 and subcision on the same day, I don't believe that it would be a good idea to do the suctioning as your skin will probably be pretty raw. I had a fractional laser treatment about three years ago and my face was very raw after the procedure.

I would run this by your doctor, though.

Hi Matt,

I've rolling scars and by skin texture is brown ( I'm from INDIA), doctor offered me 5 treatments of subcision and cool touch laser and said improvement would be significant.

But I told him my marriage is in just 6 weeks away that time and now it is just in month, so he offered me dermal filler like perlane or juviderm ultra 1 injection and said this is temp fix and which would last for 6 - 12 months.

I'm pretty much skeptical about this because I read few forums where they said if you have just fillers without subcision the gel would pass to other areas and form lumps.

can you please suggest me what to do to fix this at least temporary before my marriage.

Thanks again for your active participation on this forum. Really appreciate your thoughts and opinions.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

I don't have any experience using fillers of any type. I have read, however, that when doctors fill in rolling scars with filler, it can create a 'donut' shape since the fibrous bands are still attached to the epidermis. Part of the epidermis raises because of the filler, but the spot where the tissue is attached to the epidermis remains attached and depressed.

Personally, I would save your money on fillers and wait until you can have subcision done possibly combined with a filler of some type at a later point in time.

As I mentioned earlier in my thread, I've had four laser treatments done and didn't feel that they were all that beneficial in producing collagen. I spent a lot of money for little results.

However, with subcision, I spent less money and obtained tremendous results.

If you do go through with subcision later, please take before and after photos. You'll be amazed how your skin can change over time.

Again, congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

Hi Matt,

Yesterday I had a treatment for my acne scars, He treated me with 2 fillers, 1 subcition and cooltuch laser (totoal cost is 1700).

Procedure -

1) He filled the scars with filler (restylane)

2) Did laser all over the face ( cool touch)

3) Did subcition

4) Again filled few scars fillers.

Its been almost 24 hrs and my face is pretty much swollen, brusied and few injection and needle marks. I see one big lump formed on my left cheek which not there before, may be because he filled a very deep scar over there..I'm pretty worried about that one now.

I feel like my scars been covered with filler so far.

I'm feeling very tight to open my mouth now and chew bigger items.

I asked him whether I can apply any ice packs on the face and he suggested not to do as he did the laser treatment

We scheduled followed visit next Saturday.

Hoping for the best.

Said I would eventually post before and after and here is one. Procedures done so far......1 laser (rip off), 2 subcisions (1 on 5-13-12 and 1 on 7-24-12). From 1st sub started seeing improvment at around 5 weeks out so hoping 2nd sub will start producing more.

Are there results yes, thrilled with them.....not quite. I hope you can tell which is before and after.

Open to suggestions on how to smooth out the rest?????

Your scars are so Improved!! Congrats!

Matt, are there any specific areas that the Derm advised getting subcision on or is each case judged individually? I have very shallow/moderately large rolling scars on my inner cheeks (sides of the nose) however, I have never seen any subcision done in that area.

Great question, Michael.

My doctor actually had me mark the scars that I wanted treated and these were the scars that were treated.

Let us know if you locate a doctor who can treat your scars and take before and after photos. The more that we can share on this site, the more we can all learn.

Hi Matt,

It's been 10 days since I had the treatment. I feel at least 20-30% improvement in my appearance all bruising and swelling gone. I visited him again on last saturday and he injected remaining filler which he saved to fill any missed scars after my first treatment. After filling few scars he again did cool touch laser all over my face. I didn't have any downtime after this procedure other than little bit of swelling on injected areas. But I noticed big lump which has formed under by left eye. And he suggested for me to use dermablend concealer for some marks on my face.

I typically kept the bandages on between 12-24 hours after the procedure.

Depending upon what time you get the procedure done, you could probably leave for home the following day.

I think that you'll like Dr. DeSpain - he 's very open to questions and suggestions.

Keep us posted.

hi matt, how much did the subcision treatments cost you? and did u get any fillers? Its very hard to find a doctor who performs subcision in toronto. I found one and he charges $1000. He said it is a one time thing and he only does subcision ones and not multiple times. What is your take on this? because a lot of people that have had subcision on this forum have had more then 1 subcision treatment. And what do you think about the price? Again thank you and you advice is appreciated!

My doctor charged me $400 for each subcision treatment with the exception of the first treatment - he gave me a substantial discount because he was new at doing it.

I think that $1,000 is outrageously expensive and I did not get any fillers.

If I were you, I would continue to shop around to find a doctor who is experienced at doing the procedure and whose fees are much more reasonable.

In my case, it took four treatments to get to the point that I was happy with the way my complexion appears. There are a lot of doctors pushing lasers and I don't think that they treat the underlying problem: tethered bands of scar tissue that hold the epidermis down creating the 'dimpled' look on our faces with the shadows that they create.

I am so glad that I pursued this course of treatment and have never once regretted having this done.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Matt

I would not recommend cotton balls since they tend to absorb much of the acid.

I used cotton guaze - be sure to wear eye protection and press the guaze so the acid is not dripping.

I would also encourage you to read the manufacturer's instructions before you do the peel.

I also used a fan to cool my face. One more hint: use an astringent to remove any oil from your face. If you fail to do so, the peel may be less effective.

Dr. DeSpain is a very good dermatological surgeon and very good at performing subcision. I'm glad to read that you are getting good results from your procedures.

Hello. I heard you went to see Dr. Despain for subcision in Co, Missouri. I had a couple questions. I was worried about the subcision procedure. Is subcision really that big of a deal? Like is it traumatic to the skin? I wonder if my fears are irrational. What size needles did he use? How many scars did you have? How was the improvement? Cost? Location of scars? I am planning on seeing him shortly. If you could answer these questions for me It was make me a very happy camper. Thank you very much.

Hey, Matt...thanks for all your posts on this forum. I really appreciate it.

I tried to private message you, but I think your inbox is full...

I think that we have similar scaring and I just had my first subcision today.

I noticed that when the doctor was performing the subcision, he went in and out in the "lancing" motion, and he also went from different angles, but I don't know if he did any of the "fanning" motion that is mentioned in the subcision/suction study.

I'm just wondering if your doctor did the fanning motion when you got yours done.

Thanks for your help :-)

Yes, my dermatologist used the 'fanning' motion to break up the tethered scar tissue from a variety of directions.

Do you hear any 'popping' noises as the scar tissue was breaking up? I did during each of my four procedures.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I only noticed popping sounds on one spot. I think he did a good job, but will have to wait to know what the results are. He also let my mom watch. She's a nurse and she will probably be helping me to do some more in the near future. I'll keep you posted...

Thanks, surprised.gif
