Hi drewboy,
I had artefill injections about four times now. The doctor now says the scars have become superficial and he recommends a laser treatment (Encore C02 fractional). I am afraid to do this because I have darker skin. Has the silicone helped with any of your more superficial scars or ice-pick scars? From what I've read, artefill and silicone treat the same type of scars. Any information you have would be great. Thanks

Hi jayizzo,
I used to have a linear scar near my libial fold causing a crease or a wrinkle. It was just a cluster of smaller ice pick scars that gathered together and caused this wrinkle. It was injected the last 2 sessions and is no longer apparent.
To be perfectly honest, I dont have very many ice picks, but I do have a superficial scar that looks similar to a chicken pock scar, except much shallower, on the apple of my cheek. I know its been injected 3 times, and although the borders have closed in, its still visible. I'm afraid I'm going to have to dermabrade this area away or possibly have TCA applied.
Hope this helps! Dr. Lam has a message board where you can directly ask him. It can be found at www.lamfacialplastics.com
thanks for the replies. my doctor was saying the fractional CO2 is safer than the normal CO2 but if my skin becomes permanently pink that would be awful, especially as I have darker skin. The scarring is still pretty apparent. I'll send a message to Dr. Lam as well. Thanks again.
does anyone know if silicone injections can help with the orange peel look of cheeks from enlarged pores and scarred pores with some icepicks thrown in?? While the holes don't go away from pullilng my cheek, the skin around them smooths out to where the orange peel look goes away. Don't think that means anything though...just mentioning it!

i don't think silicone will work with orange peel, but i will tell you whats helped me out with the orange peel look is moisturizing every day with 1000mg of Vit C tablets.
Also the Apple Cider Vinegar method has done a great job with the pores. Be warned though, it breaks me out, but it seems to make my skin so much more radiant. yea yea yea I know, I said radiant. *runs*
guys, so far im hearing mixed reviews about silicone. People are concerned about lumpiness or feel like they arent seeing the benefits straight up. I encourage those who consider the treatment to take before and after photos. I recommend utilizing patience and at least try a few rounds before saying yay or nay.
hi drewboy...a newbie here......appreciate if you can share how you make this 1000mg of vitamin c moisturizer...thanks!

lucky girl - you may want to do some research on the supposed connection between silicone implants and illness. The National Academy of Sciences did an extensive study and found no connection and silicone implants were subsequently cleared for use again. Also, medically pure silicone is used for lubrication in syringes for diabetics and also for injection into eyeballs to repair detached retinas.
This guy's blowing smoke up our asses, he shouldn't have told everyone he was putting up pics in june when he obviously hasn't yet. I recommend not doing silicone injections until he posts up some decent after pics. The thread so far is all hype and no results.
Too right, and looking at those pics doesn't prove anything about if he had severe scarring.
Something in is 1st post seemed to tell me this was hard to believe.
Naitch,
Drewboy has been a member of the community for a few years. He has tried different methods trying to correct his acne scars. And to accuse him of false things (accusing him to be a Physician just to make money) is ludicrous.
You've been pestering him for a month now. As he has stated previously, he cancelled his June 15th appointment. If I were being treated in a harsh manner, why in the world would I come here and share my results. By hounding, pestering and being blantantly rude to him, I wouldn't blame him if he never comes back -- although, I hope that isn't the case; I've appreciated his insight greatly.
If you think he's a fake, why bother with this thread anymore? And btw, your demeanor comes across very crass. Ever hear the old cliche "sticking your foot in your mouth?" I think it's about time you pull it out. I, for one, am hoping Drewboy sticks around.
Drew is clearly Dr. Lam. It is so obvious that he set up an account on acne.org 4 years ago...just waiting for the moment to strike. Now that he has pounced, he might get an 5 or clients because of this thread! Haha...ridiculous.
Drew is just sharing what he has tried and I really doubt his life lives around this board, this thread, or even his scars. If we HAVE to see photographic evidence, in consistent lighting, for anyone to make a statement...then we pretty should just shut this board down now.
Anyway, getting back on course and in an effort to try to contribute, I had another round of silicone (but not with Dr. Lam). It is too recent to gage the results, but I expect them to probably be underwhelming to be honest. HOWEVER, considering that there is little downtime and the risk is low, the risk/reward so far seems to be good enough for me to continue. I am not considering cost in the equation since that is not a factor to me. I do think I have seem some improvement, but it is probably about 30% or so after 4 treatments (waiting to gage the 5th). Since I have had just about every treatment under the sun, I am qualified to give an educated opinion on silicone. I think it is a treatment that should be considered and while not perfect, is still one of the better treatments available.
I'm bumping this back up to the front page to see if anybody has any other experiences with silicone injections.
I read the whole thread with interest, and found Dr. Lam to be very clear, and his work well-documented on his site.
I was hoping to hear from Drew, Dan or anyone who has been a patient of Dr. Lam's.
Was the price $600 for each full face session?
How long did your skin look abnormal after the injections?
Did the bumps under the skin calm down soon?
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
But Dan had it done as well--and he said he was happy with the results. So they worked for him at least. I was just hoping to hear from some more people who've had it done.
Just because Drew hasn't come back to post doesn't mean silicone injections do nothing. It simply means he hasn't come back. You can assume and guess all sorts of stuff about him/his absence, but bottom line, you don't know.
