Why do scars revert back to normal after x months

Does anyone have an opinion as to why one needs to have constant peels or dermabrasions to keep the skin looking good.. I mean, once the scars have diminished what reason is there for them to go back to the way they looked before. The skins DNA doesn`t know where the scars were and how deep, its just typical isn`t it, another kick in the head when y9ou are looking for a solution

Hi Sick Skin,

I'm not sure. Maybe the treatments create an overall building of collagen but not a scar specific one. When the overall collagen starts to diminish the scars are back. I believe some people do experience permanent improvement though.

My best!

i hate this to, you go and spent large amounts of money to get results, then just when you feel confident, back they come! I don't think perfection in scarrs in possible, maybe we just have to except some "improvement" not a cure.

On the contrary, the skins dna does know exactly where and how deep the scars were.

James,

Are you saying a mutation occurs and if a drop of my blood were taken, given the scientists knew where to look, they would be able to tell from my DNA where I had a scar? Do you have anything to support this because I find it extremely difficult to believe?

Thanks, Anna

What I am saying is that skin is made up of cells. And Cells have memories.

I'm not a sceintist or expert in this but I have read that a cell that is injured retains the dna memory of that injury.

This would also seem to make sense in regard to the persons initial questions. I have had scars vanish with a hosts of treatments I have done, including dermabrasion, CO2 Laser, and others, only to have the same scar reappear ( but smaller) up to a year later in the same exact spot.

James,

I think what you may have read is that instead of DNA the dermis, once injured, has a permanently altered matrix in that it often cannot, by itself, revert to its uninjured state. With deep re-injury the matrix can be altered again to provide a more uniform appearance. in the world of current technology this would be done with something very invasive like dermabrasion, laser treatment, or a chemical peel. This has nothing to do with permanently altered DNA. Otherwise, the child of an injured parent could inherit that injury.

I think your point is valid though.

Thanks, Anna

Because the swelling goes down?

This is interesting. Is it the same for after results for dermarolling?

Or if a scar gets better over time?

It can't exactly detract from where it has improved, I don't think...
