So I finally had another chance to schedule another saline injection with my derm today. He says it seems like it's stopped sinking in, and I agree, he'd even argue that it's getting better but I'll hold back from agreeing at this point. He is understanding but really wants to hold back from resorting to Restylane because if my dents decides to fill in naturally I will have a huge hill on my forehead. So we'll give it a few more months (up to 9 we've decided... and it's been 2 so far.) He's convinced it will grow in... and I can tell he's not convinced that the saline does much but I beg him for it every time anyway, as it certainly can't hurt anything.
I still have a haircut that minimizes the problem but damn I can't wait to grow out these bangs. I realize there's nothing I can do and I have to keep living life as usual.. my derm said it's great that I'm able to maintain this attitude. I know this time will pass and one day I won't have a gaping crater and then I'll look back and see that it wasn't so bad and I got through it. (i'm usually quite vain when it comes to these things but I'm developing this part of myself so in a way I'm being taught a lesson)
Wish me health and repairs!thanks
Good Luck Carlla!
I've had several "dents" from cortisone injections over the years and they are pretty upsetting, I know this. As a matter of fact, the very first cortisone injection I ever got- a big cyst on my forehead- sunk in within 2 days!! But, as I recall, it seemed to pop back out very quickly. But then again, I was only about 28 at the time- good collagen I guess!
I had another sink in event some years ago that lasted about 2 months and then, the one that really sent me over the edge was about 5 years ago- that one has never completely filled back in, although it really isn't so noticeable anymore ( it's on my chin, below the left side of my mouth) I really, in fact, sunk into a deep depression ( no pun intended) after that last sink in...
I currently have a huge cyst- more like a boil really- on my chin that I may have to get looked at tomorrow. The last time I had a really deep cyst, I had to practically beg the doctor to try to drain it- I don't know why they don't try to drain them first because when she did finally lance it and squeeze, lots of stuff came out! She ended up putting tiny bit of cortisone in and there was STILL a tiny sink in spot! This one on my chin I am going to insist that they try to lance it first-I have already gotten some pus/blood out of it this morning, so I know there is more in there!!! And I may try to get another, stronger antiobiotic to go on for about a week, since my minocycline isn't doingn much for this thing on my face this time!!
Bottom line, I'd be VERY wary of getting cyst injections in the future. For real, I've come to learn that, if you can wait out the cyst, they WILL resolve on their own in time and won't leave a big DENT in your face. Yes, they will leave scars, but nothing like the dents I"ve had ( and still have) from them...NOT to say I wouldn't ever get desperate enough to try it again, but I'd definitely insist that they consider lancing first, and if not, then diluting the cortisone a great deal first
Good LUCK, my dear! It will resolve eventually, not to worry....
You do have a good attitude Carlla, I still have dents from cortisone injections too, but they do look a lot better than they were. I tried self-injecting restylane and it didn't last at all, so that may be a waste of money for you. I have also had two rounds of silicone, which didn't do much, but maybe I should have had more rounds. Decided to not go that route anymore. Keep us updated, I think the saline is helpful, I self-injected that too, and feel it did work to build collagen.
I currently have a large cyst on my chin and I am really afraid of it leaving a large scar ( I am currently on Retin A Micro)
I have had injections in the past too and they have left indents that took a long time to fill in.
Some are still there in certain lights
Good luck with your forhead!!
Hope works out
I am not going to think about an injection anymore, the fear of indentation from that is too much
I am just going to pray this doesn't scar on my chin
acne sucks!!!!!
Birdybird, I know what you're saying, I can totally see how something like this could throw anyone into a depression. I'm so sorry to hear about the stubborn indent you ended up having. Curious-Have you ended up trying anything like restylane? The injections themselves are a damned-if-u-do and damned-if-u-don't thing. Oooohhh cysts.
Do you remember how deep the atrophy from the injection in your forehead was? I'm 24 so maybe maybe I'll grow some forehead/eyebrow back?? haha!
I really hope your chin one is resolving fast
Tricia, how long would you say the restylane lasted? (and wow, how did you get some to inject on your own?) Private msg me if you don't wanna say here. and you injected your own saline? I'd Love to do that but don't know where I can get the syringes/solution. Do you have a med background?
Thanks Kady75, and I hope your cyst leaves without leaving too much aftermath for ya!
Thanks guys for the well-wishing. It's still the same, I got a small zit in it and was actually happy because it was less sunken in, but then the zit went away and the depression is back to its usual depth. I'll keep waiting And updating.

Hi everyone,
back for a little bit of updating.
So I haven't gone in for any saline injections lately... and I've had 3 done so far but haven't had any done since my last update.
I've had a dent on my nose a few years ago which took months and months to fill in and a few superficial ones on my chin that took a few weeks... but nothing, NOTHING like this one on my forehead/between my eyebrows. It was very deep like my face wanted to fold in half or something and I even had someone mention that to me. It wasn't even a divet at one point.. but like a 1 inch vertical ditch... so devestating. This past week I have really been noticing that the dent is a bit plumper, and a bit of normal colour returned (though it has a long way to go I think). It's not as tender and I think it is starting to grow back in oh-so-slowly.
My point is, I honestly, honestly think the saline did something good for this dent... because I've had a much smaller dent and it took a longer time to start plumping up than this.
If any of you are having problems with atrophy from cortisone injections... I seriously suggest trying to talk someone into injecting saline for you. They will probably think you are a little crazy (like my doc did-I'm sure he did it just to ease my mind kind of like a placebo) but I'm sure with some persistance you'll find someone to do it for you.
I am still considering ordering syringes and saline online.. maybe even restylane, but I'm going to hold off and see what happens in the next few months.
To let you all know in case you decide to do this.. the first two injections of saline bruised the area and left a bluish hue behind and it was quite tender. It looked pretty bad but the third injection went alright and I imagine if I went in for another one it'll even be better.
I'll update here and there to let you guys know of any regrowth of forehead. hehe

im glad to hear that the saline injections are working for you guys too. i got my first injection by dr sire a week and a half ago and i see around 70% improvement. i also got pretty badly bruised but its going away now. he said that i would probably need at the most 3-4 more to completely fill it in but to remember that its still a process and not an overnight miracle. i asked him why for some people the dent goes away and for some people it doesnt and remains permanent n he said because it depends on how long the cyst had been there because it maybe that the cyst was going to scar regardless. he explained to me that the dent caused by cortisone is not a scar its subcutaneous fat shrinkage and once the kenalog leaves that area your skin returns to normal. its not tethered down like an acne scar is thats why they say it will almost certainly pop back up.

lol you know i actually thought of that and im naturally a really thin girl so i stocked up on omega fatty acid 3,6,9 i also take copper collagen and vitamin c pills that i got from gnc cuz i figure it can only help. i am scheduled for my 2 saline injection on friday the 16th. i dont care if it takes 2 years for it to go away i just want it to go away.
Yea, my derm really messed me up. I cant describe how mad i am. I went in for my monthly checkup on accutane. Had cysts ebfroe on my visits, he said nothing of it. I go in a few days ago and had two cysts that were shrjinking on their own. Doc says u want a cortison im lik uh idk theyre going down pretty good right now. He kept being persistant and saying oh people love it after i give it to them come on your gonna like it.
Since hes a derm I didint wanna say oh i heard it dents your face. So i just said ok. HE did 2 of them and both of them 3 days later making a huge fricking dent on my face. IM so mad he pressured me. Now i gotta deal with a dent and scars.

I still haven't gone in for another saline treatment. Planning to go in within the next 3 weeks for another saline shot (which I will probably have to beg for I think but I will anyway).
It feels a bit better, at least it isn't so much of a crater that I could put my thumbprint in before, and it isn't so deep that it has a folded pressure line in the middle of the skin now.
If I turn to the side you can definitely still see it but I can't deny it DOES look better.
When I run my fingers over it it feels like it's added a tiny bit of fat under there again!
It's probably safe to say it's filled in half way now... still have quite a way to go but I keep telling myself if it doesn't fill up completely next year I will do restylane.
I don't know if this would help or not... no idea but I try to massage it a bit when I wash my face. it feels good and maybe it'll at least help it look a bit less edgy. who knows but I have NOTHING to lose at this point.
Oh, and Striving, that really sucks about the injections you weren't sure you wanted. Have you gone in to complain and show the derm the dents? how big are the dents?
This is a really great thread and I'm just wondering about people's progress with their dents after...about 4 years. I'm currently trying to convince multiple dermatologists to inject my dents with saline and I've given one a print out of the study, but no luck so far. I'm trying another doctor tomorrow! I hope yours have all resolved satisfactorily!!
