this is a personal log to keep track of whats going on with my skin and how best to treat it. (adult acne. mainly redness and small spots)

im trying the water only regimen. (no creams or soap)

vitamins - vit C 200mg / zinc 30mg.

sls free toothpaste

no shampoo

currently over a week in. skin was great at first, heals faster, less greasy but has been up and down..probably due to touching skin, excessive washing and or diet. (face can often feel dirty but look quite calm = easy to scratch off dead skin resulting in redness/spots)

-going to start again but:

abstain from things which mess with vitamin levels. ie fizzy drinks etc which deplete zinc.

spicy foods

milk / milk products (i stopped drinking milk ages ago)

no sweets

going to drink more water (worked well in the past)

washing face with cool water a maximum of 1 or 2 times a day.

and of course not touching or picking skin.

ive done some things in the past like adhered to a strict diet, used vitamins, drink more water & no creams/soap. which all gave good results to a degree but never tried them all together.

-- ideally i will try and wean myself of my vitamins but could result in a week of really bad skin, so might need to hide in the house for a while. :doubt:

day 1.

yesterday (day 0) my skin was red and rather spotty due to touching, excessive washing with water and most probably diet ( i used some old protein powder i had 2 days ago). last night i drank a tone of water in the hope it would calm my skin down.

today. skin is bad. damage has been done. nasty redness & spots have appeared on my face and chest.

expect these to last 2-3 days will try best to break cycle and let them heal.

will be drinking a lot more water today.

will not wash face at all for a few days

(& probably hide in my house till it gets better.)

31st august

acne hasn't improved much but done some reading here and decided to go cold turkey from zinc & vitamin c (read zinc "can" be a problem?).

also changing from a flat type electric razor (which seems to rub the skin quite hard ) to two bladed razors with sensitive foam.

+ take a break from coconut milk.. so will probably only drink water for a while.

maybe this slight change will reduce some if not all my nasty acne redness

just a quick update.

everything is going very well. my face has calmed down. i have a little redness on my chin but nothing to bad. :)

a few extra things ive done is:

-i stopped drinking tea & using koko coconut milk. (koko milk has vitamin B12, which i understand is not good for people with acne)

-stopped using vitamins ( which were 30mg zinc/ 200mg vit c). i was expecting a mega break out but everything is fine. :P

-i also swapped my x2 bladed disposable razor for a basic, cheap x1 bladed disposable razor. the gillette type has a "Lubrastrip" which irritates my skin. im currently only using water to shave with.

-- as well as only using water on my face ive avoided using soap on my acne prone areas on my chest, shoulders & back. these areas have responded really well & all my acne has calmed down & healed. ( <--- this might help other guys)

diet: ive been mainly been drinking water / decaf green tea and eaten what ive liked.

in moderation i have had sweets / pepsi max / chocolate but ive not had any bad reactions yet.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

plan of action:

i have a feeling the redness on my chin area is due to shaving with the wrong type of razor. so i will continue using the basic one bladed razor (+water) and see over the next week if it calms down. failing that, from what ive read its probably due to diet.

i did also read here that aloe vera is a great cure for post acne marks, so will look into buying a plant. but current diet and skin care routine has calmed most of the redness.

just a quick update.

unfortunately it seems my skin can revert back to a mess if i dont follow my own rules with diet etc. :|

i know what i did wrong mainly eating sugar laden junk food, fizzy drinks etc but it seems we have to pay the piper the next day.. will have to see how long it takes for it to calm down again.
