Hi Everyone,

First of all, I'm new here and love the supportive community!

Medication:

3-step La Roche Posay Efflaclar Anti Blemish System

(Comes with a purying foaming gel, Toner and Efflaclar Duo+ Moisturiser)

Daily - Washing my face x2 a day with this routine.

Evening - Using Isotrexin gel and x1 Lymecycline tablet (scared to stop since last time I broke out really bad...)

I've tried so many different products but my acne is more on the mild - moderate range but it's getting me really down.

Condition:

I've been getting some white heads, some painful spots towards my forehead and red marks.

Advice?

I feel like I have broken out quite a bit from using this system but it says it takes 4-6 weeks (I am approaching my 2nd week).

Should I continue with this system? I do get cold feet when I think it isn't working but maybe I should stick with it...?

Hey there!
This is just info from my own experience but maybe I can be of some help!
I believe that using all those harsh products twice a day could be really drying and irritating to the skin.
Honestly, I have found that any cleanser that is "foaming" is bad for me. I have always enjoyed the "clean feeling" that comes with a foamy cleanser and it can be difficult to get used to one that is none foaming, but regardless of how gentle or soap free it claims to be, those cleansers are what really throws off your skins pH balance and leave it unprotected, meaning that bacteria (and acne!) can thrive.

Here's a link to a great post on pH balance:

Have you ever considered using a gentler skincare regimen? For example a gentle, none foaming cleanser aimed at sensitive skin rather than acne.
A balancing toner such as an Apple Cider Vinegar toner. Here's a link to a recipe: http://coconutsandkettlebells.com/diy-apple-cider-vinegar-facial-toner/

And a high linoleic acid oil to moisturize? (I know oil can feel like a scary prospect but grapeseed oil has transformed my skin!
Here's a great post on oils for acne-prone skin: http://www.minimalistbeauty.com/oils-specifically-for-acne-prone-skin/

I hope that's of some help! Also, I know how scary it can be to come off antibiotics, I have been on and off them for years. But taking antibiotics for a long period of time just isn't good for your body and can actually lead to worsening of your acne as they attack your digestive system. Have you considered that diet or food intolerances may be contributing to your acne? Here's a link to some reading on diet and acne:

I have found that it's best to not always take your doctors advice word for word, and sometimes the simplest thing like a change in diet or lifestyle can set us on the road to clear skin!

Best of luck to you, I hope you get clear!

J x
