Currently On Roaccutane (I'm From Uk) And Dianette, Need Advice !

Hello everyone ,

I just wanted some advice as I'm totally stressing out about it and I don't think that's doing me any good or my acne any good !

I started roaccutane 6 days ago, not sure how long I'll be on it for , prob 5-6 months! But I'm stressing about when to stop dianette , I'm a week in on my 2nd pack , obv has made no difference to my skin but I genuinely will prob never tell if it does as I'm on roaccutane and that is def making me break out ATM ! (was totally expecting it).

My acne is on my cheeks , chin , sometimes by my ears and sometimes in between my eyebrows but never on my forehead !!! Would you say it's hormonal or not ? I'm glad I'm on roaccutane as she wants to try prevent scarring and I have tons of red marks from previous spots so she thinks it will help fade that.

But would you recommend I stay on BC or come off ? I'm panicking about a break out later in my life when I come off BC, or should I switch to another BC after say 3-6 months of dianette ? I'm a 22 year old female and obv I don't want to get pregnant for a long while so I do feel I need to be on some kind of contraception , but I don't wanna break out by coming off it or keep changing to different BC pills.

Such a dilemma !!

Would be great to hear from anyone

Thanks

You can take roaccutane and dianette at the same time. Are you afraid that the BC is going to interfere with roaccutane? Because it definitely won't....in fact they SUGGEST you be on birth control.

You've been on roaccutane for barely a week, you'll find progress with your acne at the 30 day mark. Your blackheads will disappear and your face will become dryer. At 60 days, I believe your face will be 75% clear, if not 100%. That's how it was with me, at least.

Good luck! Stick it out! STAY on birth control!

Oh no I don't think they will interfere ! Just don't know whether to come off dianette before the end of my roaccutane course or at the end of my roaccutane course to prevent another major breakout as that's what I keep reading on the dianette forums on this website !

Wow you cleared up in 60 days , happy for you , what dose were you on ??

I know it's far to early to see any difference on roaccutane , im breaking out more and more each day ATM and have back ache and muscle aches which isn't pleasant and my lips are starting to dry but nothing unbearable atall

I've taken 3 trials of Accutane. Anywhere between 40mg-80mg. Most people find clearance at around 2 months in, but they have to continue taking it for the full 5-6 months or whatever amount that is assigned by the dermatologist.

Unfortunately, exactly a year after I have ended each Accutane session, my acne has come back everytime. For example, my last Accutane pill I took was in April of 2011. During the summer of 2012, my acne slowly started coming back. Now, in August of 2012 my acne is fully back.

I don't want to be discouraging! A lot of people find a "cure" through Accutane. They only need one session and they are good for life. But for others, it's only a temporary relief.

About Dianette - I don't really know A LOT about it since I haven't personally taken it. Do you know if it's a higher-risk birth control pill compared to other pills? Because as long as your doctor thinks it's safe, you can (and should) take it for a couple years, Now if Dianette is a higher-risk birth control, you can ask your doctor to put you on a pill that has less side effects. Personally, my doctor said "Aleese" is one of the safer ones to take.

I have been on birth control for 7 years, never experienced any side effects of blood clotting or anything of that nature. I encourage all ladies to be on some sort of birth control, because condoms are only 75% effective. My sister got pregnant just last year from condoms actually.

But anyways to make a long story short..I would stay on the pill..any sort of pill. As long as you can. You can stay on it until you're 30 years old if you want to. If you want to SWITCH birth controls, I would wait until you're 2-3 months into Accutane and your face is clear. This is when the drug is the strongest, and any fluctuations in hormones from changing birth controls will most likely be minimal.

Thank you :) you have been a great help , I def agree with your advice , dianette is a high risk pill so I will def eventually switch when my face is clear as its a skin treating contraceptive pill so I def want to use it ATM but I agree with you on switching 2-3 months or bit more into my roaccutane course .

I'm sorry you had to do 3 rounds of accutane! But I am def prepared that it may come back.

But I found when I was on Yasmin birth control it made my skin stay calm , just odd spots now n then but the pill made me a psycho moody bitch. I just need to find a better one to switch too as dianette really should only be used maximum 2 years but they really prefer if your on it till your skin clears or 6 months max, but I must be on birth control as yes condoms don't always work !

What bc you on ?? What do you do to treat your acne now ?

Thank you for the advice :)

You may want to consider using non hormonal birth control, that way you will never have any issues coming off a pill

You can always take spironolactone. It's an anti-androgen. It won't do birth control for you but it will get rid of acne. And you can take it at the same time as any birth control you want, so you don't have to be moody just to have clear skin.

Dianette doesn't make me moody , just Yasmin so I'm glad I switched to dianette :) I don't think I can really take spiro as I'm on roaccutane , prob far to many tablets

Accutane makes your skin awesome, like a baby's bottom. Once your skin is clear, as long as you can maintain it, you're golden.

3 trials of Accutane does suck...Because every time you get your hopes up, and then a year later it comes back. Very frustrating. I had dermatologists insist that "3 times a charm." when in reality it wasn't....

Right now i'm on 50mg of Spironolactone, a little over a month in.. so far so good. Also JUST started taking 5000mg of Vitamin D3 and Saw Palmetto 320mg and 30mg Zinc. As far as topicals I use something called Acanya. For my birth control, I am on Ortho-Tri Clycen.

Basically just trying to find a nice combination of medicine that will calm my skin once and for all! It's nice knowing that Accutane isn't the only "cure" after all. I'm probably going to post a skin log soon.

Glad it's going well , good luck with it all and yes make a skin blog , I'll be definitely following it !

I'm thinking of switching to ortho tri cyclen after dianette as I heard that's a skin friendly pill !

Did you ever change your diet ?

That's funny you mention that, I browsed the Holistic forums on here one day and convinced myself to:

1. Get an food sensitivity/allergy test

2. Stay off Dairy

Well, the "no-dairy" diet lasted, literally 3 days. HA, I love my chocolate..and I spent $250 going to an allergist who said I didn't have anything. So I felt pretty stupid... For some people, a change in diet helps them.. but from the before/after pictures I've seen on the holistic forums. It's people with literally 3 zits BEFORE..then clear AFTER..so very mild acne.

If you have moderate (me) or severe acne...it's usually something hormonal or chemical. But that's just my personal opinion. I'm sure some people will disagree.

My derm said diet has nothing to do with acne and I bloody love my dairy , I haven't drank milk for months I drink almond milk and totally prefer it , it's better for you also as full of vitamins

It's all a myth when it comes to food causing acne! My twin sister is a dairy obsessive freak , and she doesn't have acne

How's your skin keeping up, is the ortho tri cyclen and spiranalactone working? I'm 50 days into roaccutane and have completed 3 packs of dianette , on 7 day break and things r still shit :(

Seeing derm today , hoping to have dose upped
