Ever since getting my implanon implant I've starting having bad acne. I've never had acne before the implanon and always had great skin. I know drs prescribe birth control to help with acne so what is up with that? I've heard of other people having the same issue with the implant and their website lists acne as a side effect but I don't understand Why if birth control helps other people? Has anyone else had this happen? I'm planning on ordering the products for the regimen and getting the implant removed March 27th I just hate this because I've always been lucky enough to have clear skin.
i started ortho lo a month ago for birth control not for acne. i had very mild acne before starting. two weeks after being on the pill i broke out in horrible cystic acne along the jawline and cheeks. i mean the big hard ones under the skin that take weeks to heal and leave a nasty scar. i thought ortho bc was suppose to help acne?? so i talked to the doc she told me it was my hormones changing and that it can take time for my body to get use to the new hormones so changing bc's wouldnt help me. so she told me to wait it out and in the meantime prescribed me clindamycin phosphate lotion in conjunction with benzamycin cream to keep my acne under control. these are antibiotics and no they dont interfere with the bc like normal antibiotic pills do. i started using the regimen once a day and after a cpl days weaned to the twice a day. its only been three days and my acne is pretty much gone. so happy. id like to eventually wean off the lotions once by body adjusts to the ortho lo. if my body doesnt ever adjust to the ortho lo and i break out after weaning off then i would prob try a new bc method.
Even though birth control is supposed to help your skin, some people just have bad reactions to it. I think I'm one of those people. I went on birth control in the summer and once I started college, I stopped taking it as frequently. I don't know if it's the fact that I took it sporadically, or the birth control itself, but I got the worst breakout I've had in a long time and I'm still dealing with it.
I too had moderate acne prior to starting birth control. I was on ortho tri-cyclin for three months and called it quits when I saw the damage was so much worse when I was looking for improvements. I switched to Aviane and my skin seems to have calmed down.
Now I'm on Clindamycin Phosphate Lotion in the AM and Tretinoin Cream 0.025% in the PM to treat the current acne I have and acne scars.
