I can't even believe I slacked with the spirulina/chlorella. It's been only a few days back on the mask & 15+grams spirulina, 7+grams chlorella daily and I've seen such an improvement. My chest acne is staying more or less under control. I find topical chamomile tea (pm) and green tea (am) help that acne significantly. For my face acne, redness is fading, and the number of actives has been cut in half. Yay! Next time I'm clearer I'm not stopping this stuff.

That's great that your body acne is improving! I love spirulina and chlorella so much, it's done wonders for my family members who aren't willing to make much changes, unless it comes in a pill form  I found a topical MSM lotion on amazon that I now use with chlorella/spirulina masks, what a spot treatment! Thanks for mentioning your mask sometime back, this works much better than oatmeal alone.

Have you thought about something like almond butter? I'm not sure how much I'm subscribed to the whole gut repair thing, but in theory you should be able to add it back in after eating a lot of nutritious foods for a long time that will help fix things, more or less. Have you ever thought about getting a juicer? I've been looking at raw foodists and whatnot, it seems that high amounts of juices from slow juicers (champion, omega, huron) are really beneficial, and much cheaper in comparison to the juicers that the gerson therapy uses.

Nice to see you here too ohsailor, didn't know you already stopped by here before I made that post in another thread :o

I have thought about a juicer, and almond butter, lol! I think a juicer would be so beneficial, I think I'm going to start saving for one. A woman I work with has a Vita-Mix one and she absolutely loves it. I want to make a trip to the health food store later on tonight, so I might pick some up there. I've also been looking into raw food diets and such recently. I met someone a little while ago who stays away from most processed foods like me and he's pretty into raw foods... It seems like something definitely worth checking out.

I got a gross painful, but smallish nodule on my jawline last night. Yuck. One of those ones you can feel coming. It shrank a lot overnight though, thank you spirulina/chlorella mask. This seems to be a slow process but over time the results are really noticeable.

Great! My dad and I breakout from peanut butter, but almond butter is fine. I had a cheaper juicer the past month or so, but it broke (technically twice), so I'm going to invest in an Omega juicer since they have 10-15 year warrenties! The slow juicing helps keep in nutrients, and from what I see reviewers and videos, the pulp is pretty dry! There's so many testimonials to gerson therapy & people who start juicing regularly in general, I can't wait to get my hands on a good one.

Hmm, you're making me want one even more. I'll have to do some more research on it today. Giving up peanut butter would be so hard! I love my organic "peanuts only" peanut butter and apples in the morning.

Yeah, for the past couple weeks or so I've been going through reviews and youtube videos  carrots+apple+ginger is my favorite juice by far, and pretty much all juices are anti-acne in some way. The sugar content never really gave me a problem either. Maybe with juicing you'll be able to handle the peanut butter! Ginger in particular really helped with various kinds of inflammation I was dealing with, namely back aches, headaches, and acne. I'm waiting for some precharge thing to clear off of my account from the last cancelled juicer I didn't order  My dream one is the Omega VRT 350 HD, I think it has a 15 year warrenty, and if it'll last that long compared to the cheapo ones, it seems worth it!

If you feel like you can't give up peanut butter, try sunflower seed butter! It's WAY better than almond butter in my opinion, and tastes the most like peanut butter (especially if you get the kind that actually has some sugar in it--but i know you probably won't want to). But forreal, it's tasty.

Lol yeah really! 15 years is such a long time, makes it so worth the price. I find that ginger helps, I have a ginger green tea that I lovee to drink.

Thanks! I'll have to try both and see what I think, if it doesn't cause breakouts and it's tasty I'm all for it. It's hard to find anti-inflammatory foods.

I'm being tempted with someone I work with to ditch chemicals altogether. My cleanser is fairly natural, but has a few chemicals in it. I do really like it though. We'll see what happens. I've made so much progress since I started eating much better that I don't really want to risk it. I've done the spirulina/chlorella/oat mask everyday for the past week, so tonight I'm going to try it with the moisturizer and see what happens. I also got a new soap, I hope it doesn't irritate my body acne.. It's made by the soap works, their oatmeal soap. I get eczema so maybe that will help out with that. I'd been using the normal white dove bar soap, because my mom says its good for eczema. They test on animals though I'm pretty sure, so I can't justify using it.

This is my current regimen:

am

wash face w/ korres white tea fluid gel cleanser

tone face w/ green tea

moisturize w/ korres pomegranate balancing moisturizer

spot treat w/ derma e brand very clear spot treatment

pm

wash face w/ water

spirulina/chlorella mask

wash face w/ korres white tea fluid gel cleanser

tone w/ chamomile tea

spot treat w/ derma e brand very clear spot treatment

Mostly vegan diet (I eat organic honey). I avoid soy, high sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined sugars, processed foods and fried foods. I have the occasional treat but not very often. I consume at least 5grams chlorella and 7grams spirulina daily (usually I shoot for double that). I don't drink, I don't smoke cigarettes. 6/7 days of the week I do not wear any make-up. If I do it's a natural mascara only usually.

Can anyone recommend any more "superfoods" or foods/supplements that are helping them? Does anyone have any positive or negative feedback on pomegranate juice? I want to do anything else that I can to help speed up my healing process. Scar treatment recommendations would be greatly appreciated, mostly they're red marks though.

I'm not sure about store purchased pomegranate juice, but I hear that it's really detoxifying freshly juiced (lol I want a juicer so bad). For PIH, my skin has always loved sulfur (in general, sulfur does awesome things for my skin). I mixed powdered MSM and colloidal sulfur with clay, watermelon seed oil (any non comodogenic oil works fine), and hyaluronic acid. the red marks peel in a day and leave some pink, fresh skin underneath that is much less noticable. You can also mix MSM in with a lotion or serum, I use a moisturizer that I found on amazon that has pretty awesome ingredients except for shea butter, but it hasn't given me problems. They both are great at reducing inflammation too.

As far as foods, ginger, beets, and carrots have some amazing properties (lol juice). Extra virgin coconut oil (I prefer the Nutiva brand) is great for your body in general, the lauric acid helps detoxify the body, and I've read that it helps fight off the bacterial response by changing sebum composition, but I need to read up more on this and find specific sources. It doesn't hurt, that's for sure. It's great to cook with as well, and an easy source of calories. Pumpkin seeds are a superfood imo, and you could sprout them to make them even better. The high amount of zinc makes it a potent anti-acne fighter, and also has some antibacterial/parasitic properties in the gut.

Need/Want dis so bad. Q_Q

Lol it seems like a good investment. Not just for your skin but for overall health and wellbeing.

The oatmeal soap I purchased a few days ago might be causing my chest acne to start up again sad.png ! So sad because it was helping my eczema and made my skin feel soooo soft. My scars are slowly but surely healing. It feels like it's taking forever but it's getting there. I feel like each breakout I get is less severe than the last, and the calm skin period afterwards seems better.

On the plus side I recently got a bunch of new music to listen to, and it's helping me not microscopically analyze my skin when I have nothing to do. The yellow paint in the room I'm in makes my acne look harsh!!!

I finally got it! Sort of hecka in love with it. Also made fresh coconut milk, which was a fun experience, and mighty tasty, no fillers and stuff either. My neck and back pain has gone away for the most part too, so that's awesome! Hopefully it'll help you with your accutane joint related pain when you get one!

That's good about the frequency and severity of your acne lessening, that's sort of what's happening to me too. Hopefully we'll be done with the breakout heal breakout heal thing soon, and just stay calm 100%!

Going to jump the gun a bit, picking/popping/analyzing my skin used to be a pretty big problem for me, but this book helped a ton! http://grossbart.com/SkinDeep.pdf might be one of the key things to add into your regimen to help you overcome acne.

I'm addicted to reading that book.... It's so interesting, but so long! I've been thinking there must be some missing link as to why I keep breaking out. I eat well, sleep enough, care for my skin well. Perhaps the advice there will help. Thanks for sharing!

I really, reallllly want to get a juicer, it seems like such a good idea. Probably after christmas!!! I've decided to cut out all nuts from my diet, except for almonds. Yes, even my favourite peanut butter. It seems a necessary step.

It's a great book, glad you're finding it helpful! It's tldr for a lot of people, but it's really jam packed with good information and exercises. I find that the techniques reduce overall stress as well. The power of the mind never ceases to amaze me :D

Yeah, it's such a great investment! Hopefully you can get one asap! Hopefully cutting out nuts is going to be one of the last big steps you'll need to take, and perhaps it'll just take some time. I'm about 6 months into a healthy lifestyle/diet, and my skins been improving slowly along the way to the point where I'm mostly clear with healthy skin.

Cutting out peanuts has actually made a difference already! I'm getting less new spots, and the spots I do get have less of an impact sort of... Like they're not as sore, angry, red or as large. I've been trying to be calm about my skin, not stress about it as much, as hopefully that's helping. I didn't log on for so long!!! I have a few little active spots right now, but not too much.

Hi!

Glad cutting out nuts seems to be helping :)

Its amazing how much stress can affect acne - I've been worrying/anxious a lot recently and I definitely noticed a change in my skin because of this. But its so hard to not stress! Hopefully you are winning the battle and that the rest of you, not only your acne, is benefiting.

It's so true that it's so hard not to stress. I find it's such a circle. You stress about your skin, it gets worse, you get more stressed. It's hard to break the pattern.

I realllly miss peanut butter! It seems worth it though so far. I have been wearing make up lately (unfortunately). Probably 3 times since friday. Eek. It's not a good habit to start getting into. My mascara looks so out of place without foundation though, I swear wearing just that highlights my bad skin. I bought a new, more natural looking mascara though and I like it. It's made with rice bran! Yay for natural products.

I have a few actives, maybe 5 or so, but they're littttle, and seem to be dealing with themselves. They aren't as red or inflamed, and don't seem to bother me as much. I've been distracted with friends and music and work though, which is so good for me.

My eating has been pretty good this week. Sunday night I made myself a vegan chili-type thing. Green onion, green peppers, tomatoes, chick peas and black beans, as well as some quinoa to go with it. It made the perfect work lunches the past 3 days! I'll have to figure something out for tomorrow, spinach salad maybe?

I've decided I'm going to do a smoothie and water fast this weekend. I need my proteins and such, so I'll do my smoothies still, but just water. I have the whole weekend off of work, so if I feel drained I'll be able to handle it. Perhaps that will give my skin the boost it needs! Then after that I'll continue the healthy eating.

more positive results!

I feel like my skin's better than it has been in a long time. The spots I do have are so smallll and not ever irritated. Time for a picture update. This is no makeup, except for mascara.

When I first started with my healthy eating habits... even though I slack quite a bit.. I would read David Wolfe's books:

Eating For Beauty, The Sunfood Diet Success System, and Naked Chocolate..

And I would go on his website alot because I would learn a ton by him.

David Wofe-

With a masters degree in nutrition, and a background in science and mechanical engineering, David Wolfe is considered one of the worlds top authorities on natural health, beauty nutrition, herbalism, chocolate, and organic superfoods. Leading the field with his vision, mission, education, and business, David has over 15 years of dedicated experience and understanding of the inner workings, the delicate chemistry, and hardcore mechanics of the human body and how the body is affected by the modern-day stressors of todays fast-paced, over-worked, and unbalanced lifestyle, which is literally a killer to our beauty, health, and longevity.

Oh, and I read through your log & seen a part where u kinda stressed a bit about eating chocolate.. Chocolate is a superfood and is very good for you. I mean, you should watch out for the type of chocolate you get but an organic chocolate from at least 80-90% chocolate is great for you... And so are organic cacao nibs. (but they're really bitter and u probably wont like them.) They're extremely high in fiber.. Like 9grams per serving and I believe they're high in protein as well, a long with antioxidant, minerals & neurotransmitters =)

Go for the superfoods!

When I eat chocolate, I do generally get the organic stuff (mostly what I eat is organic). I'm not big on dark chocolate though. I try to like it, but I'm not quite there yet, so I just end up avoiding chocolate altogether. I'm probably going to my local healthfood store later today or tomorrow so I'll look around and pick some up to try again. Thanks!

I found your log when I searched for "peanut butter". I feel validated knowing that PB could be causing my breakouts (possibly also be causing my migraines). I didn't used to eat a of PB, and would alternate with almond butter. But I made a gluten-free and vegan version of the Mrs. Fields' PB Dream Bars, and my skin went nuts. So I'm going to stay off of it (even though those Dream Bars were AMAZING!!) You skin is looking great :) Keep fighting the natural food fight!!

Thanks! I was in denial about the peanut butter because I love it... but it really was causing me some serious problems. Like I said, no more cystic acne or giant nodules! I've never really heard about PB causing migraines, but that might be worth looking into. I get migraines (more of them since accutane, coincidentally or not, I'm not sure). I found a tea that helps with that though sold at teaopia. I mix their calming with sunset honeybush and it helps a lot! That blend also somewhat helps with cramps too which is nice.

My dad baked some christmas cookies and I ate some... I feel bad about it, but they're homemade and I felt so bad not trying them since he spent so long baking them. I swear my skin feels oilier since then too. I've been getting "sugar pimples" too.. They're different than the usual breakouts I have since eating healthy. Small, more concentrated, more red, and mostly on my forehead and chin, areas that I hadn't been having any problems in. Anytime anything confirms that the way I've been eating helps my skin makes me quite pleased.

ALSO, I found a new favourite tea. Chamomile lavender, absolutely delicious!

Woah, that picture from a week ago and some looks like a huge improvement! Generally when I'd have foods that gave me issues, the acne that would follow would seem to be a lot worse in terms of redness, pain, size, etc. Also I'm curious, how much water do you drink? It's something that's thrown around a lot with acne, but the few headaches I would get would be due to dehydration most of the time. I aim for about a gallon a day, and by waiting a little longer, your bladder capacity goes up.

Any ideas of what juicer you'll be getting? I'm still loving mine!
