I say if u cannot stand the oil, then use just a little soap and wipe the oil once a day. That is what I am doing. As the weather is fking hot, I swear alot. So I use little soap to wipe off the sweat and a little oil, but just remember not to irritate your skin and u are done. I think Waterwater want to tell us that we should not irritate the skin or else the skin regeneration will be disrupted. Everyone dun have to follow his every step, just modified it to your own "comfort"
I've tried this method of no washing before and found it nearly impossible to maintain. Not only for the oilyness, but just the general appearance of dull skin that excess sebum creates.
I can't just go to school or work with the oilyness that usually accompanies my face when not washing for 10+ hours.
When I finally did wash my face after 5 days (my personal record), I noticed my skin looked the best it had looked it years after successfully brushing off all the dead skin/sebum/etc. However, the oilyness returned with a vegeance soon after.
I wonder, how difficult is it for you guys to manage not washing your face while shaving or washing your hair? That was the second issue for me which led to abandoning this regimen. While it's one problem not to have a clean face, it's only making matters worse to have a beard growing in and oily hair. Something had to give in my case.
I also was one to believe in "what nature intends" concerning not washing our faces often, or with chemicals, but then again, when you think about it nature never intended for humans to live an average of 75 years. Sanitation, running water, medicine sure aren't the result of living in the natural world. Either is shaving for that matter. With face washing, there are people with clear skin walking around who wash their face with SOAP (what our grandparents and parents used) twice a day.
If I were to undergoe this regimen again, what I think I'd do is wash once a day -- and only with water. No scrubbing, just five seconds. I'd use shaving cream once every three days, when I usually shave. What's keeping me from this regimen again is, one, my skin has been doing remarkably well with my current regimen (Morning: Purpose Cleanser. Night: Purpose Cleanser, Olay 2% acne moisturizer); and two, dedication. However, if you guys continue wiht good results maybe I'll have to bite the bullet
About the hair thing, in the shower I lean my head back and try my best to keep the shampoo away from my face and in general I don't wash my face in the shower so it just gets assaulted by a lot of steam...
The quality of my skin has improved loads and I "washed" my makeup off (briefly with a bit of water) and it came off sooo easily, so there is already a layer of protective oils forming. Day 5???
I was wondering about several things:
1. Does anyone plan on scaling back not washing their face from 10 days, to 8 days, to 6 days, etc. until its once every day?
2. Has anyone seen results with comedonal acne? This is my primary problems, and I wonder if doing nothing would even help since exfoliation is seen as the solution.

If ur asking what I think, then no. The point is to work your way to washing as little as possible- not stop for 2 weeks then build back up to washing everyday>thatd b silly....

By that logic you would be able to condition your skin to be able to resist 24 washes a day...which is obviously ridiculous. =P
I'm not doubting this entire system of not washing your face. I'm just wondering whether the skin regeneration people notice in the early stages (ie, skin buildup) would make the face more acceptable of daily washing over a period of time. That is, once its healed.
If the whole theory is correct, then once the skin has "healed it should be able to handle daily washing for a short amount of time before it deteriorates back to what it was. The reason our skin is weakened is from years of washing daily, so one would not want to go back to that. Each individual would have to test to see how often to wash their skin for greatest benefit...
This is really cool, alot of people are understanding the concept of what I learned by doing this also, I hope it works as well for others as it has for me. It's super simple if you think about it, stop irritating your skin, give it time to heal, and when it has don't wash it like crazy again. Good luck peoples
i am on my fourth day this morning.
before i started, my chin was my primary concern. it was broken out and extremely dry. the first day, the oil helped the dryness. the next day also. the third day, i noticed some dryness, but not nearly as bad as it was. this morning, there is no dryness, but maybe b/c i just woke up.
while my skin is more even toned and less dry than it was, my acne has not improved. it does seem that acne has attacked my face in every single area that has bothered me in the past. that is, i have these recurring flare ups, like on my chin. whereas i usually deal with the big ones one or two at a time, now, i'm dealing with probably 8. when i applied a very gentle pressure to several of them, i was very surprised how the pus immediately broke through... i am pretty sure the skin responded so well to the gentle pressure is because i haven't washed. unfortunately, these areas have already come back again with more pus. i don't know if i should leave them alone now or what: i'm leaning towards leaving them alone.
anyway i am hoping that my skin will begin to clear up now that i've passed the 3-4 day benchmark that others have posted about.

I know what you mean :0
I've gotten many small cysts on my left cheek and now jawline (=[[[ ) I thought it may be from (invisible) dry skin so I applied an aspirin/MSM mask, which works as well as an aspirin mask except the MSM keeps your face hydrated and probably helps with skin quality, anyways I think I washed off most of the oil I had accumulated =\ This is probably Day 6 although I have not been sticking to it strictly (esp bc of makeup and stuff... and also I apply moisturizer in the morning and before going to bed).
Umm...tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I've tried just washing with water before and the dip regimen many times. I always got dry skin and consequently always applied a very mild moisturizer like proactive, emu oil, jojoba oil, cetaphil, neutrogena dry-touch etc etc...Never worked like it is now that I'm applying NOTHING that could irritate, clog, or otherwise disturb the natural balance of my skin/sebum because my face is not so dry with NO washing. Now your just applying all these chemicals and not taking them off-not really wat this reg is about if ya know what i mean. Try cutting out the moisturizer and any washing for awhile and if theres any way u can do without it, no makeup.
I've been thinking. Perhaps this method will prevent acne that occurs as a result of irritation of the skin but it will not prevent the acne that results from your diet.I will try a two-pronged approach.
Definitely! The places where I usually continually break out are not at all, but the places where I break out due to dietary slip ups (chin/beard), arent doing so great after nearly passing out on potato vodka, eating pizza and large servings of corn chips, lol! I'm gonna stick to no washing, try to keep with my low carb diet, and start taking pgx/glucommannan to control "diet" acne.
Yes! I am really considering this Glucomannan thing.I seem to be getting jawline acne though, I heard that was hormonal? I took more DIM last night but it didn't seem to help. I'm so tired of this -_-
Well, like I said I get chin/jawline acne when I eat too much carbs/candy or booze. "Diet" acne is "hormonal" acne unless it's caused by an allergy. Too much insulin>high androgens/high igf-1/low SHBG>acne
I believe I'll take the plunge. Or atleast a lite version, for now. Saturday morning all I did was wet my face briefly while taking a shower, and was surprised at the condition of my skin. It didn't appear as irritated. In the past when I tried with just water it never seemed to change the actual tone of my skin. This may be because I attempted to wash with water after medicating with BP, and redness had yet to fully subside.
When I came home Saturday night, which was more like Sunday morning, I had to resist the urge to wash. After drinking and being around people who smoke it was difficult. Yet, as far as I can tell, the skin tone still remains good.
Saturday will be the last time I will wash my face until -- at the earliest -- Thursday. I'll continue with updates.
What ultimately pushed me over the top is this belief-- if washing twice a day is too much, and irritation persists, then this obviously isn't working. No matter what dermatologists suggest. It's funny, I look back on my teenage years (up until about 17) and I swear I NEVER washed my face. I would only have the water from the shower do the work. It was when I had a pimple come up, started using cleansers, overkilling the entire face, that oilyness and further acne problems arose. It's something that I've considered for a few years, but never had the courage to try abandoning OTC products.

Good luck! It's Day 7 for me and my skin tone gets better daily (was very red/splotchy). Also breaking out less.
