Hi everyone,
I am sorry to have to say this, but for me not washing my face or only with water isn't working. My face looks bad now, worse than when I started it. I am definitely going to try something else! In the pictures below you can see it: the left one is taken around the 8th of may, the second is from today. I wish I had a successtory, but I guess for me this is just the (ugly) truth...
OP? So, you wash your face every morning and night with just water??
tried that for three months over the summer. just scarred me up really bad. i did use sunscreen, so ya know.
OOGABOOGA?
What's happening to the dead skin cells?
You only wash your face every 3-4 days to remove the dead cells?
Is it just that your face is uber sensitive?
Does this help with dryness?
I don't think I could do it because I wear make-up and I have! to remove it =/

My face isn't that sensitive, but after so many years of putting chemicals on it the dead skin began to shed way more than it should. So this seems to have reversed that a bit, and now my skin is shedding at a more normal rate and only needs to be washed every few days.
Dryness has never been a problem for me except immediately after I wash my face. So I don't really have to worry about that ever.
I think there have been a few girls who've tried this regimen. I'm not sure how they dealt with makeup, though I'm sure it's doable.
id love to try this out. however i cannot go without makeup and i need to remove it at night which requires water and something a bit harsher for my eye makeup. also. im using alot of bp right now and i hate the way its making my skin look, red and blotchy just all together very uneven tone. im scared that if i quit bp cold turkey ill break out in zits galore. never the less i'd still like to give this regimin a try...

I went off BP cold turkey and I broke out really really bad.
Made my skin start to scar and gave me more acne than I had even had before (and worse)
Not to freak you out.. but I think you should slowly get off BP now
seriously, I'm NEVER going to use BP again.
That stuff ages your skin and gave me really uneven skin tone and made my skin not able to tan anymore on my face.. basically ruined me for good, or at least 10 years.
=/
slowly trying to retain a normal skin tone and TRYING to get rid of the acne
mannn i hate BP
..but thats for me, you could be completely different.

idk if this will help but try using the bp once every other day for a week then only 3 times a week and so on so that you dont freak out your skin. wash with water also. as for your makeup, try not to use a lot of it for your eyes and get either a natural makeup remover or the wipes.
I've done this in the past. Not the no wash, but the quick cold shower. Cold water doesn't strip the oil out as much as hot\warm water does. I was clear when I did this, but stopped doing it because I figured it was somethin else that was keeping me clear. Though it was probably somethng else that played a role; I'm convinced that quick cold showers was a big part now. I've been doing it again for 4 days. Guess what; my my whole body has improved. Less breaouts on face and chest\back, dry itchy scalp is gone, but I do still have flakes if I scratch myk goatee or rub my hair to test it. I think the flakes will go away in 3 weeks or less after my skin renews itself.
Cold showers are very healthy too. They are something you should look into not just for your skin, but your overall health.
I used to take long hot showers that would last up to 20 mins sometimes. I used to have really oilly skin on my face(but dry scalp)when i did this. I think it kept the small little pimples away, but I would get the bigger pimples(cysts). Especially on my scalp, chest(hairy), armpits. The places I thought needed to be cleaned the most, so i would let hot water run over them thinking it would be better. I guess I got that wrong. I dont have any big pimple right now, just some small ones I tho;ught would have grown to be cysts. They actually just became little white heads that are already healing up.
I will post in a few more days to tell you my progress.
I'm starting to question this regimen now. I was reading older posts from the people who did this and i think one person did a baking soda wash and another one used topicals from derms. I just hope that when my skin heals in hopefully 3 months or less, the dead skin doesnt come back so i can be done with this. Also, is your skin able to heal from removing the dead skin every 3-4 weeks or does it only heal from leaving the skin there?
Hi everyone,
I know I said that I would quit doing this 'regimen', but in the end I decided to continue with it, only not in the way I did it untill now; I washed my face with only water twice a day and I think that was too much. Now I wash it once a day, in the evening. That already has made some improvement to my face. I also try not to stress so much about my face!
Make sure you aren't using hot or warm water at all(so you aren;t striping the oils from your skin). If you must wash your face use tepid or cool water. I've gone as far as to buy a shower head filter to take the chlorine out. Results have been very good so far and only been like 7 or 8 days.
i cant remember the last time i washed my face. im a big believer that pretty much everybody here washes their faces wayy too much and should definitely cut back on the products they are using. i stopped using bp almost a year ago. i broke out bad. then i started using some other stuff, including probably way too much apple cider vinegar and somewhere along the way (although im sure this started years ago) my skin got really stripped. what im doing now is basically taking a lot of these essential vitamins and probiotics and stuff like that. im taking colostrum which i recommend everyone read up on (there is an excellent thread started by denise2) and i am not washing my face and exercising alot.
my skin is going through a crazy process. i have tons of hidden blackheads coming to the surface and so naturally i am breaking out. but once the blackheads are gone, my skin is healing. i think the colostrum is forcing the blackheads out but that may be a natural thing as well. by not washing my face and exercising, im sweating a lot and the dead skin is peeling slowly and keeping its protective barrier over my skin as it heals.
sorry to say but this is probably a terrible regime if your using make up, i have no idea how it would look but i dont think the makeup would look very good.
ive also noticed that when i remove the dead skin from my healing pimples that the scars will last longer and be deeper. it is just like any other form of scarring, the skin is meant to be there to cover the wound as your body does its thing underneath.
hope everybody's doing well.
Hi everyone,
My skin is definitely doing better now that I wash it only once a day with tepid water. But I also decided to go to my doctor to ak for help. He thinks that I have rosacea. He says that it is best to continue washing my face with only water and not doing anything else about it. He also gave me Rozex gel, which I have to apply once a day in the beginning and later on twice a day for a couple of weeks. In a few weeks I have to come back to the doc to see how it's going. Although I'm a bit nervous about using the Rozex, I am going to try it. I hope it will help!!
Through time, experience, talking to people about it and looking around on the internet, I am getting more and more convinced that all the cosmetics that we use every day, are not good for our skin. I think that there are a lot of people who have skin issues by using too much creams, peelings, washings etc. I guess I am such a person, or better; I WAS such a person. I am really going to do it different now; I've also started to eat healthier and take better care of myself, for example relaxing more (today I did so by getting a massage and I feel really relaxed now) That can only be good for my body and health!
Well it looks like my face isn't breaking out at all anymore. I think washing with a cleanser just dried out my face so crap just sat underneath the dry skin. Also whenever I put on a moisturizer, I'm pretty sure that just clogged my pores. I could have just found the right moisturizer for me, but all that trial and error just seems counter productive. I found that the best thing for me to do was buy a moisturizing shave gel. I think the shaving gel moisturizes my face pretty well while the shaving exfoliates very nicely. I haven't had a breakout in a few weeks and it just keeps getting better everyday. I am also still using a blue light everyday. I am so happy. To anyone trying the no wash thing or just water just stick in there. I believe a lot of stuff marketed towards clearing your acne is really just a ploy to get more of your money.
Hi everyone,
My last post was about my doctor (GP) who gave me some antibiotics (Rozex, I believe it is called metrogel in other countries). He didn't actually say that I might have rosacea, but I guess he just wanted me to try it out and it was not until I got home and read the prescription, that I found out the stuff was for people with rosacea. I found it a bit weird, because I don't have a lot of the characteristics of rosacea, like flushing and redness (my face colour is more the opposite, I often hear that I look so pale, ha ha!), reacting strongly to hot drinks or hot or cold weather etc. (which I don't) And.. I have black comedones, while it is always stated that rosacea sufferers do not have them (unless they have acne at the same time).
Anyway, I wanted to give the Rozex a try but it was a disaster! My face hurt, itched, got very dry and irritated and I got a lot of new (extra!) pimples. I found out that there are ingredients in the Rozex which are known skin irritants and that the use of the stuff can lead to all kinds of irritation and allergic reactions and so on. And even when it WOULD have worked, I couldn' t be on it forever! For example; you must stay out of the sun. Well, that's not so easy when it's almost summertime... and sunscreen always makes me breakout extra!
So I stopped the rozex after about a week (I know any results take a longer time, but believe me, my face reacted really badly and I was just afraid to use it longer) and I will just follow my own intuition now and that is that I believe that all the creams and face washes and all that have made my skin worse through time. So I am back to just washing my face about once a day with only water! I've done that now for more than a week, and my face is already getting better day by day.
Ugh ok so I've been talking to this guy and were planning on meeting but I cant see him with my face like this so I keep making excuses >.<. I've been doing this regimen since september but haven't left the mask on longer than 2 months at the most but that was when I first started. The end of may is when I stopped taking the mask off so I plan on leaving it there until the beginning of september. Do you think it'll be healed and ready to come off by then? Cause september will be a year I started this regimen..I would think my skin would be healed by then.
I have read through 30 pages of this, and I started doing this 2 days ago, so far the pores on my face, especially my nose, are really clogged. I decided to stop using products because nothing has ever worked, even water makes my skin itchy and red. But I have began to question whether or not this regime might work for me, because I have no cystic acne anymore just a weird infection looking thing on my face, that I have been having for 7 years, looks kind of like the dead skin mask all of you guys are talking about, except I have had even before starting this. On top of that I have dandruff, so I suspect I have a case of Seb Derm, although no derm has ever said so.
Should I continue not putting anything on my face, including water?? Or should I take a different approach. Here's a picture as a reference:
[Edited image out]
Should this regime help me with my skin? I have tried everything and have completely destroyed my skin.
Hi, stumbled onto this thread while looking for information about dry skin...
While the ops approach is in the extreme, I hope I can corroborate the theory of irritation as the cause of acne by saying that I am completely lazy and negligent when it comes to skin care and never really had any problems with acne. The only time that I break out is due to stress and the subsequent overwashing and fussing with products which just made it worse. I do occasionally try to take better care of my skin by washing more regularly and with cleanser, but it just made my skin dry and oily afterwards and I never had the patience to keep it up. I must say I'm happy to know that being a lazy slob has payed off as most of my friends who are a lot more meticulous with their skin care routines are the ones with the worst acne. I always just attributed that to me being lucky and having dry skin, which I'm sure plays a big role, and it's what I tell people when asked why I never get pimples; they don't believe it when I say it's because I don't really wash my face.. Results will of course vary depending on genetics, skin type and history, but the idea is the same. Washing and showering twice a day is not normal in most parts of the world nor is it natural. I hope those skeptical about the idea will realize that and give it a try. Might just re-recommend this to friends.
hi ya'll. im a lurker who finally registered. im 27, and ive been suffering from acne ever since i was 11! yes, more than half my life. now i dont really get much acne, except right before my period. but i do have rosacea, oily skin, bigass pores, and lots of scars. im mostly pissed off about the rosacea (it's not too red, but i do look pink, especially compared to my pale yellow skin elsewhere). and im just about fed up with everything ive tried so far, including herbs. so im gonna try this caveman regimen. anyone here whose rosacea lessened from the regimen? i need some hope.

I believe the guy who started this post said his dermatologist thought he had rosacea but after not washing his skin had an even skin tone. I think you'll have success with this regimen. Good luck.
Waterwater, thank you soooo much!! Your decision to quit washing your face prompted me to take the step that I have been debating for months! I have only been rinsing my face with water for 4 days now, and I have already seen a DRASTIC change in my skin!
I am 26 years old and have had acne since I was about 20. Because I never had a problem with my skin during my teen years, i have been racking my brain trying to figure out what could have caused the issue to develop. I remember very clearly that I began washing my face during my second year of college because i thought it would keep my skin from aging too fast. Ever since then, I have been paranoid about my appearance. All the washing and scrubbing caused irritation which lead to acne. The worse it got, the harder I tried to get rid of it. I kept slathering on the topical creams, thinking it would help, but it never did. My acne is very centralized... on my chin and mouth area. The skin in this area became red and inflamed, and I kept getting huge cystic acne that took weeks to heal. Along my jawline, I kept getting pimple on top of pimple, until my skin became tough, almost leathery. It was disgusting. I used to look at pics of myself in high school and wonder what went wrong, again, thinking that I needed to wash my face to control my acne. Boy was I wrong!
Several months ago, I started using a face wash by Alba. Because it is very gentle, compared to other soaps, I did start to see some improvement, but the acne never went away completely. I would still lather on lotion after I had washed, and before long, I ended up with tiny little whiteheads all over my chin. Even though my skin felt moisturized, it was drying out. It felt so tight and painful.
So, last week, I was doing some research online and came across this site and Waterwater's post. I started to consider when my acne started and how everything I have been doing thus far has only hurt my condition. I have not used any kind of soap on my face for 4 days now, and the difference is amazing! I currently have two medium-sized pimples on my chin, but they are not red or inflamed. In fact, nearly all of the facial redness is GONE! I can look at myself in the mirror, without make-up on, and look into my own eyes, instead of being distracted by my chin! There are some small whiteheads as well, but they are drying up on their own now; everyday I wake up and my face looks better
As I said earlier, I am still rinsing my face, and I do use powder makeup (easier to rinse off than liquid foundation). My skin felt dry for the first day or two without lotion, but I really don't even miss the lotion anymore. At night, I do put aloe, straight from the plant, on to help heal the wounds that are still there, and it is working nicely.
I have also tried to increase my water intake to keep my skin from getting too dry, since I'm not using lotion anymore. After 4 days, I have NEVER seen this kind of progress in the battle against acne! I have my skin back!
Trust me... what Waterwater says is true! It really WORKS!
