Any water will do as long as its not tap water.
Oh, don't use dan's, it's meant for acne prone skin. Yeah, just like what random said, your will gently scrape that yellow dry skin mask. Be careful on drinking bottled water especially distilled as I have read that is not safe for long term drinking. Though I believe it is fine to be used in washing.
ah right cool. Im gna buy a water filterer, can you guys click on this link and tell me if you think this machine would be better than using bottled water all the time

Btw I am going to use Dans cleanser to wash my hands from now on to get rid of it!!!!
Cheers guys
for those that are afraid to use tap water on their skin....don't be! From my experiences at least, tap water does not contribute to acne. I'm almost positive that you guys wont want to go out of your way to use bottled water or filtered water for the rest of your lives....so don't be afraid to test tap water on your skin. If for some reason u do see a negative effect on your skin, than by all means don't use tap water. But I don't think there's a whole lot of people out there that have to worry about tap water inducing their acne.
Hello. I discovered this topic, by accident, while browsing through the internet and I must admit I registered especially for it. I really wanted to post my experience.
I can say that for me, not washing my face has kept it clean for about 20 years. My adolescence was acnee-free; people used to compliment me for my skin. About 2 months ago I began a cleaning frenzy. I used soap 2-3 times a day, moisturizer, thinking "I'm taking care of my skin and it feels good". I liked the dry, almost tight feeling I used to get from soap. But after a week or so, I has a huge breakout. I was desperate and didn't really know what to do (not having experience with this). It persisted for a month until I realized what I really needed to do, was go back to what kept my face clean for 20 years. And I did. My face is clean right now.
I really cannot say if it will work for anyone else but what do you have to lose? I do recommend going to a dermatologist to establish your acnee type. Based on that you could see if not washing your face could work for you. Good luck.
Wow, thanks for you inspiring experience. Now, I have no doubt about this method.
I cannot stress enough how much the success of this "no-washing" method depends on your skin type and acnee type. The most important advice I can give to all acnee sufferers is to know your acnee type! If the cause is internal this will not help get rid of the problem. But I would suggest trying it if you suspect the cause of your acnee is irritation or over-cleansing.
Ps: These are conclusions I've drawn from my experience and what I read.
thanks for the information d'anne!
i dont think there is a doubt in my mind that my acne was caused from overcleansing. my skin used to be sooo tight. it's still a little tight in certain areas but less than before. i havent been doing the "no wash" thing that long, though. so i am sure i need more time.
Please guys , including Wapak, can you find me a gentle cleanser I can use for my face??I havent washed since january 10th , so please please what kind of wash can I use?Any natural washes? The caveman reigmen is going well thanx although i have had 2 new spots waking up this morning, i think its cause I ate garlic bread!
Cheers Mat

Cheers guys I am desperate for help, my skin is still breakinging out here and there but niot half as bad!

I don't know if it helps but thought I could post an opinion.
When you say you haven't washed since jan., you mean you haven't used a cleanser, right? It might seem unusual if you are used to harsh cleansers but I don't think our skin really needs one. If you say this method works for you, why use a cleanser now? Water is enough to clean your face. I know that for me water alone dries my skin, so I wash my face every 2-3 days just with warm water. (But than again I also don't use any other products or foundation.)
I don't know your situation but my advice would be not to use a cleanser at all. Or if you really feel you need one, use it rarely.
Ps: Never, EVER, use bar soap on your face. That goes to everyone. Cheers.
Im a builder you see, so im always in dust but since january 10th,only the last week or so my skin starting to look dirty, and I have used cotton wool and water,(25days ago) but it doesnt take enough off and I think the cotton wool damages the skin barrier-acid mantle)
SO i honestly dont know what to do, I realy need some kind of cleanser, helppppppppppppppppppp!!!!!!!
i know what the problem is. your face is dirty because the dust gets on the dead skin mask. when it gets really messy i would wet your face alot in the shower with warm water, and when you come out you will see the dead skin buildup. then i would gently scrape it off (do this like once a week, until it gets less and less)
i agree with d'anne in that you should not wash your face with a cleanser or soap. you should just wash with water. i personally dont wash my face at all, not even with water until i want to scrape away the dead skin, which is like once a week
hmm..
its about day 3ish, and my skin is looking pretty good (:
ive had two pimples form so far, 2 on my nose and one raelly small one , the ones on my nose are gone and the small one is disappearing XD
mm, also, my red marks are going away slowly! (:
I just have on question
would it be okay to soak my face in water for 1min everyday?
like,
plug sink, then fill my sink with warm//hottish water
then soak my face for about 1 min
this has helped in the past with cleaning the stuff inside of my pores without actually tocuhing my skin
would this make this regimen pointless though ? :\
Yes keepsearching, it would make it pointless, you need to stay off water for adleast 28days, so the skin can renew itself, and gain its acid mantle (skin barrier) that its lost in the last few years from all the topicals you have used and damaged your skin (thats if you have used any)
Cheers

the most gentlest cleanser is water. unless u want ur acne back, DO NOT use a cleanser.
to keepsearching,
yes, it would make it 100% pointless. the most difficult and most important thing about this is that u have to get through at least 3 weeks to 1 month without even leting water come near ur face.

NO do not do this in the sink simply because your sink is loaded with invisible bacteria and chemicals that will cause you to break out further.
Also, I usually only wash my face with water and when i do that i only run the water over my face in the shower with cool water. It does dry out my skin so i don't do that every day and when it looks really dry i use moisturizer only on the areas i need. My theory with the cool water washing in the shower is that i'm only getting rid of water soluble pollutants on the surface of my face. This method really will not remove any of the oily sebum gunk but my skin is not oily to begin with. What this method does is it only removes the stuff that builds up from your natural sweat. I have pretty darn good skin for never washing my face with cleanser. Occasionally though like once a month i do use cetaphil gentle cleanser and do a light cleansing.
I am confirming that despite sounding weird, not washing your face, i think this method works for a good amount of people. Everyone and i mean everyone with acne should at least try this method for a month and see what happens. It works for me.
also if you look at chimpanzees and apes with no hair on their faces they usually arent broken out too bad and they have terrible hygiene. Im not saying you shouldnt shower because you need to or u smell bad but unlike my armpits and groin the skin on my face never smells bad no matter how long i dont wash it for. My hair is a different story which i do wash but im careful not to get any shampoo on my face and i always rinse with water after shampooing without touching my skin.
This is really fascinating to me, particularly since it sort of reinforces what just happened to my skin regimen. I'm 45 and my skin is awful. I have rosacea and adult acne, and you name it. I've got about every skin cleanser you can think of from gentle to abrasive to strong to whatever. I have had v-beam, blah blah blah. I have always tried to have a good skin care regimen daily but really to no avail. About the end of March, I had a sudden occurrence of a herniated disk, and I absolutely was in so much pain I was on the floor. I couldn't bend over to wash my face, I could barely make it to the bathroom to take care of basic obligations. I made it to the shower maybe once every 5 days, and this went on for weeks. Since I wasn't going out in public, I said screw it, and I figured I would play catch up with my skin later, and the most skin care I could manage to accomplish was to wipe my face with a hot washcloth every once in a while. To my amazement, my skin was clearing up despite my non-attention to it. Really clearing up, no breakouts and it looked "healthy", clear even. Fast forward, I got better after two months and finally went back to my skin regime and suddenly I'm breaking out horrifically again. So, I believe this. My only issue is that now I'm going outside again, I have to wear sunscreen because my skin is so sensitive to sunlight. I'm wondering what I ought to do about getting old sunscreen off, but I think I will just wipe my eyes off in the morning, leaving my skin alone, and then using hot water to take off the old sunscreen off at night, so there is minimal intrusion of my skin. I'll let you know how this goes.
^ yeah it's great, isn't it??
I agree with the wash cloth thing.
My regime is now very -unregimented still haha... but I do occasionally (once or twice a week) get a wash cloth and use luke warm water to wipe it over my face a few times. And that's it. My only minor break outs are leading up to my period but they aren't nearly as noticeable (i don't wear make up for them, don't hardly need to) and they go away really quickly. So I hardly notice them, really... they make almost no difference.
every now and then (once a month or less) I may wear some mineral foundation for a special occasion and if I'm going to do that then I wipe with a face cloth before applying the make up and afterward wash off with a small amount of nutrogena extra gentle cleanser with luke warm (never hot) water... and that's it.
