Sudden skin inflammation on one side of face that looks awful. I have a first date on Saturday, and I'm to the point of desperation on this 🙁

Can anyone give me some tips on home remedies or otc products that'd serve as a quick fix for this? This redness honestly showed up about a week ago, but I don't know why I can't deal with it. I've tried numerous natural masks (baking soda, turmeric, honey, etc.), but none of them seem to make that much of a difference. I have some leftover Ziana from my dermatologist, but I don't know if that'd be either helpful or even a good idea. It's weird though, because prior to the flare-up on the right-side of my face, there was a flare-up on the left-side and the right-side was clear; the left-side is clear now -- I don't understand it. Please, please, please help me out - I'm to the point of desperation :\ I have a first date on Saturday, and I'm almost paranoid enough that I'd consider cancelling, since my skin was practically clear the last time I saw her.

Hi Cmerc,

if if possible try to get an immediate appointment with a dermatologist or medical spa for a cortisone injection. If you explain your situation to the receptionist they'll probably take you in same day as the injections only take a few minutes of their time. Without insurance it may run you about $100 though you'll get a better idea if you ask the office directly. Ziana won't help as a spot treatment but you can try some home remedies if cortisone injections or a calming facial proves too costly. Start taking some antihistamines ASAP and here are a few of my favorite soothing diy's. They might not work miracles but will take some of the redness down.
- Use milk of magnesia as a face mask
- combine 1 packet of aveeno with equal parts yogurt and apply as a mask
- take some washcloths soaked in water put into zip locks pop in freezer until cold. Place on your face until room temperature and repeat until either swelling subsidies or you get frostbite! (JK)

Hope this helps and good luck on your date!

unfortunately from personal experience ive foundthose types of home remedies tend to cause redness and make things worse.

if you can get it, i would recommend panoxyl aquagel 10% gelbecause when it drys it has a bit of whiting element, which hides some redness if you leave it on your skin + it kills spots.

but you might need to talk to a doctor to get help.

You were right - the home remedies only made things worse. Fortunately, my mother, who happens to be quite knowledgeable about skin-care, helped me develop a routine that's really helped the redness. I'm still having a little inflammation, but it's reallydied down.
